Ansel Adams for the iPad provides a multi-tiered introduction to the life and work of the most honored American photographer of the twentieth century. This groundbreaking app has been made possible by the interactivity and ...
Disclaimer I had nothing to do with the creation of the app but Ive been photographing scenic wonders including the national parks for many years That said An Ansel Adams application would seem to be so simple You just stuff a bunch of photos inside an application and call it a day Well thankfully the people handling Adams work did no such thing instead they wanted to produce a tribute to Ansel a way to not just enjoy his photographs but learn more about him and even see some short video of him The app description is a little short of detail on what you will encounter so I thought Id add my favorite parts of the experience You can zoom in on photos Not much but its enough to appreciate the detail One or two images seemed softer than the should be Banner Peak but others appear crisp and detailed so that might be the negative Each image has a usually interesting paragraph about it just tap on the image to see The postcards he sent were more interesting than I expected especially the first which he had doodled upon Adams was quoted in one image with snow that the trouble with print was getting a true white that really handled snow Well on a screen the whites really glow in a way I think he would have liked There is not a lot of video about 12 minutes worth but what there is is very interesting and you get to see Ansel and some of his equipment in action In the Biography there are some photos of him growing up if you click on the image at top Note that when you first view the photographs you may be confused how to return to the main selection simply tap the top of the screen this tappable region should probably be larger Also those arrows to either side on the first screen They are letting you know you can scroll side to side to see more content an initial animation would be helpful to indicate this Overall I found the application really response with very nice use of animations for transitions and mostly intuitive to use You might think this is rather expensive but consider how much any good photography book would cost and the variety of material you would get within If you know someone that loves photographing nature or Ansels work Id strongly recommend you consider gifting this app to them                 Great collection for the Ansel fan
A very polished app But I found the minimal content for the price to be disappointing        Strong on sizzle and weak on content
I read about this iBook in the March 2012 issue of American Photographer and thought I would give it a try I had the opportunity to visit with Ansel while as a student back in the 60s and attend some of the Friends of Photography sessions in the early 70s Ive read the Letters and have most of the books that are available by the Trust Ive only gone through the application for the past 10 minutes but feel that I have more than received the money spent The interviews from Playboy and Washington Post were refreshing There was new material that showed his humor such as the postcards to the Newhalls and the videos of his work brought back his gentle voice He was a great photographer person and this application does him justice and gives you a deeper understanding of the full dimension of his breadth of knowledge wisdom and initiative Its hard to think of a photographer today who breaks the molds of photography works for a deeper cause conservation and provides knowledge about his technical approach so that others and build their own visions upon this foundation Well worth the 7 The app has a way of electronically sending postcards using a small collection of Adams photographs That was worth a few bucks on its own                 Great resource for fans of Ansel
Not a good way to view learn about enjoy ADAMS ART MUCH BETTER WAYS I am very disappointed in this APP And my purchase was based on a recommendation of an App Of Recommendations I trust The price is outrageous considering the actuality of what is included NOT RECOMMENDED by me     WAY OVERPRICED
If you enjoy photography nature history This is a must for the iPad Thank you to all those involved in making this possible                 A real treasure
Way over priced for limited content     Very little content
