It doesnt feel anything like the original The gameplay is awkward and unappealing The chessboard is small and the controls are unpleasant     Ugly and Clumsy

Downgrading my review to one because they apparently will not fix an enormous and ridiculous bug with the accelerometer not working for half the game     Downgrade

This game has terrible horrible awful combat mechanics Right off the bat they start you against enemies who move faster hit harder and have more health than your guys even with bonuses Fine Its challenging But really the problem is with the dpad Cant rely on it to shoot the direction youre running the enemy npcs dodge almost flawlessly and slide around obstacles seamlessly while your guy judders around gets hung up on every obstacle you brush lightly by and gets gunned down Playing this game and going for golds is like beating ones face against a brick walland about as fun     Terrible game

The controls are sticky and sometimes unresponsive The learning curve is also very steep I loved archon for the Amiga this I did not like        Needs work

The premise for the game is good and its a good twist to an old game However both control methods need work Joystick mode covers part of the battle screen Tilt only works from flat not relative to how youre holding the iPhone If the controls get fixed up it would be a 5star game           Good Game Controls Need Work

I am appending my original review I paid for this game a few weeks ago Now i find that it is included for free with the original Archon game And the update wiped out all my progress i had made That stinks original review I greatly enjoy the original Archon and I like the twist with this new game The different boards and piece arrangements force me to use pieces I rarely use in the original My only complaint is that the game seems to freeze extremely often whether midbattle or on the board screen This is frustrating since I either have to sit and wait and hope it fixes itself or I have to close out and start that board over Very irritating if I was doing well     Why buy this one

Downlaoded after waiting for it to load for two days Now it wont open Please fix     Cant open

This is a great game but it needs an update to get rid of the time and battery status bar which now hides a big portion of the game screen ever since iOS 7              A great game but needs update

This is not a strategy game because you cant skip moving so it turns into a twitch game where you inevitably get drawn into a battle with bad odds and you get oneshotted Who thought that was fun Has promise though     Deleted Crazy hard

You said multiplayer coming soon Dudes and dudettes get this up and running How much longer do we have to wait The company is famous for this game Please dont screw this up                 Wheres my promised multiplayer

Responding This one has three more campaigns than the normal Archon Good deal in my book Original review This game is just flatout FUN The levels are all so unique it is surprising how each one makes you think in a new way Played into the 3rd campaign and I love it Perfect for quick moments of dead time in my day More than worth the 99 Not really clumsy or ugly I reset my device after getting itand Ive had no crashes or such                 Better than I hoped

React Games has really brought this classic into the modern age I played both Archon and Archon II back when they were originally released in the eighties on the C64 While Archon Conquest is certainly new and different it is based on the classic structure of Archon The formula that defines Archons success through the years is that it offers a fantasy implementation of chess with special powers firing spells and it allows the skilled player the opportunity to still win a battle even if his piece is weaker than the computers or his opponents piece I have only had a few hours to spend with Archon Conquest but the leveling capability and quests offer a perfect expansion to the brand There are almost no games I continue to want to play from the eighties but Archon is an itch I continue to want to scratch Ive purchased several hundred iPhone games and my advice is Buy Now Archon wont disappoint and for only 99 you cant lose 499 would still be cheap                 Classic Timeless

Overall it could be a good game but bad controls steal the enjoyment Tiny Dpads dont work on a touch screen Its even mire frustrating because the left 25 of the screen is unused during combat Fire can be done by touching anywhere on the screen Movement needs something similar using large areas on the left Also as others have said the music needs to continue through choices rather than starting over and over           Bad controls

Im not sure if this game is fun It looks so bad and its so hard to control that I cant win a single battle Awful Total waste of either time or money The Archon I remember from my teen years is destroyed     Awful graphics awful controls

The game itself is great fun Actually more than the original I remember playing on my C64 The artwork is great and I enjoy the minor storyline to the game For those who have never played the game think something of a mix between Chess and Gladiator combat You move similar to chess pieces but when you attack something you go into a combat mode where your piece has different abilities and levels health etc It is a lot of fun The iPhone addition of using tilt for control is pretty neat I like the idea The implementation needs a little work though as it is very hard to control your character when they are moving an entire block at a time using the tilt There is really no way to correct once you go slightly too far You dont have to use the Tilt you can use the thumb controller on the left of the screen but I actually found that even harder to control It felt more like it lagged 23 seconds behind when I moved to when I saw the move on the screen              Good fun great artwork gameplay needs work

I played the original Archon 15 years ago and loved it I was really wanting to love this game as well However after playing this today I cant say Im impressed First on iOS 41 3GS it takes 50 seconds to even load Thats a long time Considering that every text phone call or email you need to address adds an additional minute to your gameplay thats unacceptable In addition the dpad controls are difficult to operate Also the characters tens to clip on the sides of the board and objects rather than sliding This makes the fight sequence exceptionally hard as the AI moves smooth but the human controlled one doesnt Fix the controls start time and the game will be much better        Needs better controls Slow

This game is great in nearly every aspect It brings back memories of the Nes archon However it needs multitasking The initial load time is ridiculously long Also the menu music is annoying because it starts over every time you click on something Other than those 2 problems it is fantastic              Needs multitasking
