Codea is fun to use I don t know if there s any other apps like this on the app store It has a built in Wiki night and day programming modes for me I REALLY need night mode bad eyes and its got a lot of features I m still learning how to use this and it had improved my Lua knowledge some although it s NOT pure lua There are some annoying things though like when it occasonally glitches the keyboard so that it get stuck on screen happens frequently but not too much sometimes i have to close the app the wiki doesnt have everything when you re in test mode and go to the keyboard it comes up as a white Apple keyboard instead of the easier to see Codea keyboard Also the sound generator gets glitchy while you re going through all the custom sounds you can make with Codea                     Well done app TaZiZMe

please excuse me for bad english grammer this is not my native language but i am a very exprienced programmer and reading my review will be helpful I like the idea whole things in ipad and this app designed very good to be stand alone productive app for coding but has several problem Most of problems are from keyboard Problem 1 iOS 9 comes with very useful shortcut keys with bluetooth keyboard when you hold down cmd key in safari or notes you notice a small window pop up which list all shortcut keys but in codea nothings happend when you hold cmd key i know It has shortcut keys for bluetooth keyboard like cmd r to run a code but that is not complete at all Problem 2 If you write a program and use keyboardBuffer to read from keyboard and your bluetooth keyboard is conected you also use showKeyboard function to active it When you run all windows goes very up it s like program show an imaginary software keyboard software keyboard is hide because you use bluetooth keyboard Not beautiful thing Problem 3 While you coding if you press CMD R to run its perfectly run but if you avoiding taping on screen and you want to come back into code area with just using keyboard whithout touching the screen there is no shortcut key for that Realy You seriously should work on your keyboard problems Problem 4 You cant use Modifier Special keys like shift or esc or CMD and combination keys like CMD Q in your code if you use keyboard key function and write print string byte key in the body you realize that Problem 5 xCode extract doesnt work with current version of xCode 7 0 1 I extract my code and tried to compile i got compile error Problem 6 auto complete is something that help you to avoid typing with selecting suggestions in little menu but your auto complete requires touching on screen again It is like your IDE in computer force you to use mouse for auto complete There is no way to choose from suggestions with just using bluetooth keyboard Just remember programmers likes hardware keyboard and they use it alot Work on your keyboard problems to be great and five stars             Good app but several problem DeOpen

I haven t had this much fun since I was writing BASIC programs back in the 8 bit days this is my new favorite meta game and it s how I plan to answer my daughters when they say Daddy how can I make a game of my own The community is friendly the developers are wonderfully responsive this is great as it is and the improvements we re looking at coming down the line fonts user defined sprites easy code sharing etc just make a good thing better Go check out their forums the link is on their website yourself I do wish it would work on the iPhone as well                     The ipad should ship with this Bortels

Keyboard bugs fix this I ll give it a 5 The auto complete ribbon and short key tab are to close to main keyboard When you want to type something like earth you will hit the short keys in 30 of times which is really annoying In split key it gets even worse No short key for you have to hit 123 then to access It s a time consuming task I travel a lot and I bought this to code on the road after spending a little time and a lot of I realized that this is not productive as it looks What I mean productive is writing code with iPad touch key which is not implemented well But overall it s a good software and the only one in it s realm Feature request Export as app on device Export to app store             Good but not perfect Stojiul2ui

It s well known that the iPad is great for productivity unless what you are creating is an app To be sure Codea is not an app for coding in the same capacity as say Xcode However it s perfect for playing around and testing ideas on the go It is also great for teaching coding thanks to its simple syntax and built in documentation Codea accomplishes all this with aplomb If you are a programmer or interested in becoming one this app is a must have                     Best Programming App for iPad by far areviewer77

There s so much potential here You can t buy this and produce a game within minutes or hours You need to learn the language and the API Writing code on the iPad is a tedious nightmare For example when specifying coordinates if you type a number followed by a comma and space it switches back to the alpha keyboard There s very little auto completion help you have to meticulously type the full command in the proper syntax You can use the iPad keyboard for corrections and small changes but otherwise use AirCode for the bulk of your coding I didn t find the inline help system to be intuitive It offers suggestions as you type a command but only hints at syntax you have to dig to get usage information         Great potential but lots of knowledge and patience needed frke

What can I say fans of processing org and similar projects will enjoy Codea The IDE makes programming using the onscreen keyboard a surprisingly pleasant experience though I m still looking forward to grabbing a quality Bluetooth keyboard just for Codea                     Really fun programming oneilsh

I ve used Codea to teach programming to my young children starting a age 7 and it s a really wonderful platform for that It s a friendly low margin of entry environment but it s not a pure toy which means that skills learned here translate well into more advanced options e g Xcode In fact for some small projects it could be quite practical Code uses Lua as a programming language which is a decent choice if you re constrained to true interpretation App Store constraints don t permit code injection Of course you may still run into performance issues but Two Lives Left is doing a good job of tailoring their extensions to mitigate that and it s an ongoing process For example in the 2 1 update they added an unpack method to vectors which are themselves a useful extension to speed up computations That turns out to make a significant difference for code that does nontrivial computations on coordinates or coordinate like entities Highly recommended as are their forums which are particularly friendly and useful to both beginners and enthusiasts                     2 1 is a great update Daveed V.
