Overall this is a great app for English speaking students of the Russian language The entries are more comprehensive than the bulky red dictionary I used to lug around I particularly like the verb conjugation tables declension tables and the ease of cross referencing words by simply clicking on them Examples of idiomatic usage are decent And of course I love the Safari extension that allows me to look up words on a website while I m reading There are a few tweaks that would make this app even better 1 Conjugate the perfective of all verbs Right now only some are fully conjugated This is particularly important for verbs of motion 2 Add case usage for verbs Does a verb take the dative Genitive With which prepositions 3 Add a reference document with a table of declensions This is a normal one page feature of hard copy dictionaries 4 The Safari extension doesn t always recognize a declined word and will come up with zero results Other times it will say a word is the perfective of a particular verb without defining that verb or allowing me to click through to the definition So I have to open the app to look up the imperfect 5 Provide English definitions for the abbreviations of the parts of speech In conclusion this app is an indispensable part of my life I love that I can whip it out to quickly look up a word while studying or in conversation without needing a wifi or data connection My suggestions aren t criticisms just ideas to make this app even more useful for people who already have a solid base in the language                     Better than my hard copy dictionary Usernametakenreviewdisappeared

None of the Russian English dictionary apps I have tried 7 is very good Oxford was the best but changing the software development company caused a host of problems SlovoEd suffers from a number of deficiencies A paper dictionary ALWAYS includes a list of abbreviations and special symbols because there are hundreds of them but not SlovoEd So cryptic sequences of characters in Russian and English are indecipherable e g look up the word for to know and you see I know d And some letters are in italics some in different colors Not useful When I sent a note to SlovoEd for help it took them 34 days to say that no there is no table of symbols but you can look on the Internet so sorry but the only site we can direct you to is entirely in Russian The Russian dictionary apps are not as good as paper just less bulky         Paper Please Vaughn J. I love the dictionary However there is one serious flaw I wish they would fix abbreviations for parts of speech in word forms In our native language we usually know what the abbreviations are n for noun v for verb for example in English But one of the main reasons Slovoed is purchased is to learn a new language The abbreviations are not readily known by someone unfamiliar with the target language which takes away even the option to look up what the abbreviated word would be if we even knew what the abbreviation stood for For instance in Russian what does stand for I don t know either nor can I look it up It would be nice to use the full word or even better to have the option to have the parts of speech in the language of the other half of the dictionary especially in languages that have lots of different case and gender variations                 Parts of speech abbreviations Mloescher

There aren t many competitors to this dictionary The closest one would be the Oxford Russian dictionary by the same developer but I think this one is better More definitions and the interface is still being updated Both the content and the interface of this app are top notch The one little thing I don t like about the dictionary and all the Slovoed dictionaries is the heading at the top of every definition stating the name of the dictionary I know the name of the dictionary and I feel this could be removed to leave more space for the definition                     Probably the best YesNoCancel

I have zero issues using this app as a dictionary the content is superb and the usability is second to none However the embedded flash cards functionality has been neglected for quite a while For instance when the app is reinstalled you simply loose all your flash cards unless you transfer them to some other place manually I d love to see some kind of export import functionality there What I m really craving for is the iCloud like synchronization of flash cards between all my devices I frequently read from my iPad and add unknown words as flash cards there but at those moments when I m idle and can allocate time to recall them I usually have only my iPhone around You can make an option to switch it off and even turn it off by default to keep the no Internet connection requirement promise but being able to turn it on and have my flash cards at the device where I need them right away would be really nice                     Excellent dictionary mediocre flash cards functionality porkbird

I like this app but I would suggest the following improvements The voice is too low This makes it difficult to discern details of the pronunciation Conjugations are not provided for all verbs including some very common verbs Conjugations and declensions accents should be show in red This is very important Also is sometimes entered as and sometimes as e All should be The transitions between screens should be faster Also there is no explanation that I can find for the several abbreviations used in Russian Entries concerning prefixes would be good too Also here is little guidance on usage For example if a verb requires the instrumental case this should be noted             Very useful but room for improvement Sam625

After much research and customer comment searching I bought this app I was a little concerned by comments on past versions However the app is all that I hoped for to help understand and learn both Russian and English I am using iPad 2 with OS 5 1 The app pronounces both Russian and English perfectly and has an easy interface The only problem I experienced was the sound did not work at first My sounds was on but in the general sounds settings I clicked unlock sounds and the app audio worked fine It is clear that Paragon has continued to improve this app and answered the negatives found in comments for past versions It is solid and I am happy best dictionary with audio I have found                     Pleasantly surprised Sennaya
