ezAlmanac is a digital multi-year nautical almanac for use in celestial navigation. Use it the same way you would use a paper almanac, or use the Expert tab to do the work for you Features: ...
Excellent teaching aid Shows you exactly where in the almanac or site reduction table 229 not 249 the values come from You can enter any date and any time if you want to practice on an example from a celestial navigation text you are studying from You don t have to buy new almanacs yearly as any future or prior year is available Unless your iPad is destroyed or runs out of batteries there no reason to make yearly purchases and carry the paper books The app isn t entirely intuitive but has good instructions and you can learn without too much effort Easier than learning celestial navigation in the first place Unlike other reviewers comments you can in fact take a sighting and enter that time and sextant measurements and have that reduction calculated Part of me feels that if you are going to have the program do all the calculations you might as well just use gps But there s something fulfilling about using a sextant and the calculations are tedious and subject to arithmetic errors This app isn t inexpensive but you don t have to buy the almanacs and reduction tables which are more expensive I bought both apps but I think this one is much more helpful than ezsights                     Outstanding BobbGWhiz
Great app for beginners or those with experience Just tap ipad for dr position and time at shot time enter your HS and your done it even plots in on a chart for you you need internet for chart but all else is self contained I use old HO 249 sight forms from Navy days and do a cross check to identify errors Data in this app is HO 229 based little harder to use than 249 but more accurate                     Outstanding app Garyok113tx
I started learning to operate a sextant early this year and really like to understand the calculations This app supports a lot It does the calculations and allows you to understand the calculations Switching to the tables and to the exact positions in the table is great as well I would rate it 5 stars if it would show the intercept on a map if you could zoom and if you could choose your on help position All in all I really like it                 Ez almanac made it so easy and understandable Erwingr
I was initially unsure about this program but it is ALL that it says Very easy to use Website offers plenty of help Stores 25 fixes Has actual almanacs accessible to the user A TREMENDOUS benefit to the user is that pressing the button with a parameter takes you right to the correct page of the table and highlights the line in the chart What a great way to learn and crosscheck yourself I dont think programs costing twice as much do that Some improvements It gives a non zoomable screen of LOP and no actual map as the other product does As other reviewer said identifying the LOPS on screen would be nice as well as what it thinks your actual position is Also as other reviewer said actual maps But if i was WAY OFFSHORE maps wouldn t matter i guess I know their other product has maps but i am confused Why do i need two products If i understood the differences besides maps i might be more clear That is the only problem i see two somewhat overlapping but GREAT products Do i need both That cost is probably too high but then even if i have both which do i use day to day What it does it is excellent quick and easy                     Fantastic But there are two apps Choose carefully Docinla
I like this app a lot It provides full Nautical Almanac information including the correction tables impossible to find outside of the paper almanac It provides running fixes to your fixes or for advancing your Lines of Sight My feature requests 1 Zoom on the map 2 Estimated position based on LOS data 3 Distance of Estimated position to DR or actual if you have a GPS fix 4 Real maps instead of just a plot sheet view and 5 put the names of the celestial bodies on the LOP If the author is so inclined while adding the maps put the objects GP on the map as you zoom out If he feels real ambitious a way to print the plots and sight reduction data or e mail or share or whatever                 Very Good App efether
I am recently certified by US Sailing for celestial navigation This app provides all the data needed from Nautical Almanac and HO229 for sight reductions The Expert function can either simplify your process or provide a cross check on your reductions No need to buy or tote the books with this app It does not need an Internet connection All you need in addition to this app is a sextant and a visible horizon For the price of one year s Nautical Almanac you get all the data tools you need for the next 30 years                     Outstanding app for offshore sailors MPRick
Best app 3m and 2m navigators I can only suggest to provide more effective use of the app I would suggest include compass correction by amplitude As this is the 2nd most used computation next to LOP It will be more innovative to have this feature on your next update I already recommended this app to my fellow officer in the office                 Great app for pros 2M mark
If you re into celestial navigation this is one great app It does everything the description says and more If you use a sextant and your iPad has a charge this is far easier than using a hard copy almanac I would only add the ability functionality to highlight almanac entries                 A lot easier than using a hardcopy almanac YamhillOR
Life has been made so easy Goltzw                 Loving it Goltzw
Happy not to have all the almanacs filling up valuable space on the boat No need to replace for years Easy to read with Ipad4                     Perfect for new boat haldana1
I noticed that my current almanac app was giving me small GHA errors and looked for another option I wish I had come across ezAlmanac earlier Results matched the paper nautical almanac exactly and a very familiar user interface was easy to pick up quickly I recommend this as a well designed option to many pounds of books                     Well Designed Almanac App Rodan122
This app is amazing It is super nice to not have to flip and hold a book open It is clear and easy to navigate                     EzAlmanac Melany82
Fantastic This will keep the books dry and has a great feel for me and sense of familiarity being a steady page flipper normally And should the books be needed it is a natural and seamless transition Long may my batteries remain charged                     WhooHoo KialoaKiwi
I just bought the almanac and pub 249 but with this app I no longer need to bring those books with me to reduce sights and practice manual calculations I am able to check my work with the built in expert mode which is very easy to use I am even able to use this to get the 2005 edition almanac books and practice the exercises I received when I took the cel nav classes Great job                     Excellent SJ4G
Effectively replaces the paper almanacs which is what I wanted It would be nice if zooming in on the tables was a little clearer on my iPad2                 Replaces paper Catana48
It makes celestial nav easy I might even start using my sextant again                     Ez nav Slavezn
I have been researching celestial navigation for several months and this app provides needed basic data and tables and also solves complex formulas                     Very Good App Doogie999
I used this apps everyday on my Sextant Sight Calculations during Ocean Passages It makes my calculation faster and easier AMAZING                     Kimboo say Fantastic Amazing Great etc Kimboo's
I m planning to do a circumnavigation beginning in a couple of months on my 32 ft sailboat I own a C Plath sextant as backup to my various GPS units but haven t used it in years a lot to learn I find this app to be quite helpful in making the info all come together I would recommend it to anyone who s trying to learn celestial nav Of course if you are in this position you re probably using one of great GPS apps for the device like GPSNavX and if you iPad goes down you ll lose both So be sure to learn celestial on this app BEFORE you need it Good app Recommended JW                 Great learning tool webbwebs
If so this is for you I read numerous books that I purchased along side of my Mark 15 Sextant but several things eluded me I thought the price for this app was steep until I realized that it was responsible for brining the principles together helping me understand the tables and allowing me to finally lay down some coords that were accurate If you are trying to piece together the mysteries of the sextant I recommend this app If it had a tab for instructions on how best to use it it took me a little while to figure it all out this would be a five star app Nonetheless totally worth the asking price                 Attempting to figure out the Sextant kloudkckr
What a great tool to make running through the numbers easier Not to mention saving space on almanacs Lots of information here but after some digging I like the layout and presentation Highly recommend to any bridge officer                     Great Mamashark*2
All the data is there Would be nice to have it all in english and metric measurements Great calculation app                 Very good overall Mad Dog and Glory
This is a very good App As advertised the dates only go back to 1990 This App would be better if it could go back to 1900 That way one could work through sights given in some of the older books published on the subject                     Good App ljd01
Nicely designed app and very easy to use I am a total beginner at celestial navigation but I do understand the basics This app coupled with some of the star chart apps that are available in the app store ought to make cel nav much easier learn Even with essentially no experience I was able to use the app to generate all the ephemeris data needed for a sight and the standard almanac pages are available as a cross reference                 ezAlmanac Review mgkarl
Simple to use no more buying books Very well designed Could allow better zooms of tables but perfectly readable all the same                 Great app St111222
An excellent application Replaces the need for a printed Almanac and facilitates the learning of Celestial Navigation by providing a format that makes clear how the information could be obtained from traditional sources The ability to easily change dates allows the App to be readily used to in solving practice problems I will certainly show off this App in my Celestial Navigation class                     ezAlmanac Mr. Gridley
Not only is all the data there but the expert mode provides everything you need for your calculations Hats off to ezAlmanac                     Awesome reference tool Phnphunk
Works great and updates are built in No need to mess with new charts etc Easy to use with all the information you will need                     Neat Ncstonewall
This is just what I ve been looking for A final replacement for the printed nautical almanac for the iPad Works and functions just like the book but you only have to buy it once You can use expert mode to do most of the work for you or use the traditional techniques using the replicas of the printed almanac pages which look just as they do in the printed version                     Great nav app rockshow62
