Garmin BlueChart Mobile Marine & Trip Planning Application Using exclusive BlueChart g2 marine cartography, plan and view routes on your iPad or iPhone with BlueChart Mobile. Plus, you can easily and wirelessly transfer those routes to ...
Love the app Very up to charting tied to Active Captain for anchorages marinas local knowledge Tide info on location Only improvement would be to add moreMile Marker numbersso I could more easily know where I am at Ie distance to bridge anchorage marinas etc Also would know distance traveled                 Good App
Loaded with features slick interface Active Captain is nice to have but keeps saying its updating but it seems stuck Trying to plan routes the app crashes every few minutes I want to buy maps but not if the app is this flaky        Great features but crashes every few minutes
In general I like Garmin product but I dont understand what this is for        No Good
Unable to log into Active Captain Worked fine until about two weeks ago 4115 BlueChart works fine I just can not get ActiveCaptain updates Which is the main reason we use BlueChart        Active Captain
I have been navigating with a laptop from time zero and I am quite impressed with the quality of this Garmin app No Garmin equipment or internet needed unlike most other apps Brian on board MV Audrey Louisa PS If you do have a Garmin chartplotter you can trip plan with this app and then upload routes If you lose your network you still have your route on your iPad                 From Roque Island ME
This is basically a nice application but there is one detail not well publicized and one glaring omission The app is fairly useless without paying 30150 more for the electronic charts Not unfair price for charts but not well discussed in Garmin marketing blurbs What is inexcusable is the lack of any built in manual or even a downloadable pdf from the Garmin website Ridiculous After spending 30150 you just need to figure out Garmins thinking by yourself That makes the product useless to dangerous unless you invest several hours sorting through the program without any reference Garmin provides manuals for their GPS units why is there not even a rudimentary manual for this program        No manual Absurd
This was my favorite go to app for my iPad but now that it always crashes when I try to do a search It is not useful Without being able to search my data or Active Captain data is is of limited use     Not usable now that it crashes
Loaded the new version today Premium Weather 29 version does not load after connection to App Store Feedback Option does not work Lost a lot of money on Garmin Bluechart Mobile Used to be a good navigation app with great view of moving thunderstorms Now this app locks up and is totally unusable on both IPhone and IPad A waste of money on charts purchases and in app purchases like weather Had to go back to TZ and Navionics     Dont buy
I almost didnt get this app based on a clump of negative reviews But Im glad I did I purchased the US East coast for like 30 So that was my cost The charts are excellent They move and zoom smoothly and are very well designed clear and legible And the interface is also simple and easy to use Im really very pleasantly surprised Unless the app starts crashing or Im missing something this is a hidden gem A Bluecharts GPS for a small cost Oh the update nag just ignore it Dont buy a map and immediately update it Youd be throwing your money away                 Surprised but it looks great
We purchased this app to backup our Raymarine Navionics plotter in the Caribbean In fact we probably now use it as our primary planning tool and only move to the Navionics app for route synchronization We use it with the Bad Elf Bluetooth GPS which is an awesome device The iPad GPS is designed to locate cell towers and is not remotely suitable for remote area or offshore navigation This app is easier to use clearer has the Active Captain layer VERY important and in the case of the Bahamas has the far superior Explorer charts Whats not to like If we had found this earlier we might have purchased a Garmin plotter What this is not at least for us is our primary navigation tool The iPad is not robust enough for that application                 Great Backup Navigation App
This is a really fantastic app It allows you to purchase only the maps you need and the level of accuracy and detail is terrific I use this at this point alongside a Garmin 50s and can easily Bluetooth transfer my routes from my iPad to the 50s when I arrive at the boat The ease of use and intuitive functions are really good and well thought out especially for people not totally dialed in to paper charts Highly recommended                 Absolutely fantastic app
I like a lot of the apps features but it is simply too unstable and has too little tech support to serve as a marine navigation device Whenever I try to access the Currents feature the system will shutdown Other times it is when I look for tidal info for a future date Waited for more than two weeks for Garmin to respond with a completely inadequate answer My recommendation is to look elsewhere     Very Unstable and Little Support
Bug fix came out today Loaded it Loaded all North America tiles and Active Captain Markers Every thing seems to be back to normal on my IPad Mini 2 with wifi3G GPS is working good The new stuff that they have added like the free weather gribs ect is nice Have not tested the streaming data from the chartplotters wifi interface yet In the bad version you could still wirelessly transfer waypoints and all that jazz to and from the chartplotter but the live chartplotter position and heading had gone away Nice thing about the nice people at Garmin is I sent them an email had a response the very next morning It gets 5 stars again if the streaming data interface is fixed              Fine Now
I have 2 other iPad marine navigation apps They work fairly well Havent found the Holy Grail as yet And this app isnt it either Charts are good and the detail is well presented But there are a couple of basics that need to be added 1 There does not appear to be a night mode to change screen colors to those that assist with night vision Most recreational boaters dont sail at night But enough of us do that this is an obvious need 2 I like to see the speed and course on the screen like a regular chart plotter It could be a chart feature thats user selected Change the nonfunctioning compass rose on the upper right corner to display this info Nothings wasted then 3 Integrating the weather overlay is good It would be better to automatically zoom out the screen to an appropriate scale so it can be viewed rather than having the user to manually do that Once at a zoom level that shows the overlay the user can adjust as needed These additions would make the app better           Okay A Work in Progress
Charts are 2995 then as soon as you load them they need to be updated for 2995 Very deceptive this is my last Garmin product     Watch out
Ive used iNavX and Navionics and think this incorporates the best of both of them Clear scrolling charts and an intuitive interface IslandTractor there is a manual Under settings scroll down to bottom User Manual is just under App Tour I have one problem though I can find and use the Measure Tool easily on the iPad version but I cant find it on the iPhone version Im hoping one of the other reviewers can help me out here Ive written to Garmin but havent heard yet All in all a very nice Nav App I agree about just not updating the charts after you buy them the first time              Very good
I really want to love this app but recently its been acting funny Of late it wont allow me to log into ActiveCaptain I deleted and reinstalled the app and its still failing to login It shows me logged in on my phone but it stopped working on my iPad which is what I use as a repeater from my Garmin GPS onboard        Activecaptain stopped working
The search function does not work making this 45 dollar app pointless I would have given it a zero if I could     Cant give a zero
OMG when will they fix this Used this app for 3 years and loved it on my iPad Sailed from Florida to Maine and back using it and a Garmin plotter with a RayMarine backup and saved a hundred anchorages on this unit as the prime route planner Fatal flaw of not being able to download the hundreds of points now that something has frozen the app on startup Epic failure if this is truly now dead on my iPad Program starts then fails but leaves a partially open but frozen screen at my last known location This app is now dead on my IPad Understand they are working a fix that should be out shortly to repair the bug they pushed in this latest update Once they do it gets at least a 4 star rating from me     What happened Death by update
Hawaii map is amateurish depth lines go only to 500 fathoms then stop must magnify map to see shoreline locations otherwise just a coast outline They want 2900 to update to a 2014 version but dont tell you what is being updated so why update Have garmin gps and sounder doesnt work with them Sorry Garmin get better programmers     Hawaii map terrible app crashes
This update has a bug fatal to all your waypoints and routes or any other information stored on the app if you use a lot of map tiles So says Garmin after the fact Of course its Apples fault and it may well be but some simple testing before sending out the update would have disclosed the problem Sadly this might be your first notice of the problem But dont worry Garmin is working on it        Fatal update
The folks at Active Captain say it is an iOS issue but if you rotate the iPad into portrait mode it will work Worked for me              iOS 83 workaround
I just downloaded this app for use with an external GPS Prior to downloading the app I upgraded my iOS to the latest 83 Big mistake The external gps can not be used by this or most other applications thanks to Big Daddy Apple It is unclear if this intentional or simply a goof up by Apple Otherwise the app looks very promising and works great in my driveway     Will not work with iOS 83
the cartography is excellent but there are no nav functions no data boxes no speed no heading or course NO HEADING LINE no GO TO function just a boat icon on a chart not really useful as a proper plotter Use Navionics or INavx if you want an iPad chart plotter this is simply a planning tool only i think garmin dumbed this app down on purpose it could have been excellent with a navigation module I got my money back thanks Very much apple for the excellent service     NOT a substitute for a chartplotter
Excellent app and very easy to use Compared to others for the iPad this one allows you to use your normal swipe and zoom motions a real advantage Excellent integration with Active Captain I have used it along the east coast from the Chesapeake to Savannah and found it very reliable I noticed a review from someone who was upset about the map upgrade My app also tells me an upgrade is available but I dont see a need to upgrade Enough This is not the only navigation toll that I use and it shouldnt be The paper charts we use we use for years and I view the upgrades the same way Year over year not much changes so perhaps an upgrade every 5 years or so should keep me current This is not the only navigational tool that I use and it should not be In my experience Redundancy is a good thing and because of its accuracy I use Blue Chart as a primary navigational tool                 Excellent
As many others I have purchased tried several navigation programs As a owner of almost a dozen garmin devices i am hooked on their ecosystem and they make great devices unfortunately bluechart mobile is not one of them Only after two years of tedious use on my ipad did i find this flaw I purchased a new ipad and learned that Garmin has strategically omitted the ability to export waypoints routes tracks etc to a new device A great product as a plain map but if you record any data dont plan on upgrading and pray your device never breaks Most other software allows you to export so there are many other great options out there     Dont buy fatal flaw
Dont buy this unless you only want to play with it at home Pretty disappointing for a top notch navigation company There is much missing functionality Maybe Garmin wants to get you like the appearance so you buy a real chartplotter And updates cost 45 Youve got to be kidding     Garmins legal dept says this app is not for navigation
Only downloaded to try active captain and it wont let me log on Perhaps because I didnt buy a chart yet No help in FAQ Waste of electrons     Active captain wont start
I have been using this app for a year now It is my primary planning tool The reviews have played an important role in my choices of where to stay I recommend this app to everyone I meet                 Great app
GREAT app Use it all the time Id really like it to be a little more like a chart plotter like go to Id pay for that It has the ability to update to the latest charts you need that too How about an upgrade Garmin              Id pay more for more
50 to update the map I just bought for 50     Update Charges
Minnesota has over 10000 lakes In this app it only shows the bigger 5 lakes in Minnesota but no information It doesnt show contour lines or any useful information I bought the app to sync with my chartplotter on my boat This app will get deleted from my phone and my chartplotter is going to get replaced with a lowrance Extremely disappointed Garmin False advertisement BUY THE NAVIONICS APP     Not worth the money
I was using the Navionics app and got a boat with Garmin electronics The graphics on this app are incredible the information from Active Captain is extremely useful there is current and tide information I plan my routes on my iPad before my trip then download to my boat gps This app is perfect                 Love this app
Got this app for going on crane lake and up to rainy lake MN Waste of money No info on the map at all Very disappointed in this app     Ok but nut useful on main land
My wife and I were brand new to sailing and our chart plotter was broken I purchased this app and could not have been happier with its performance The app doesnt use data but tracks you with the GPS feature in your phone so there is nowhere you can go anywhere on the planet and its got you We have been to Bimini Bahamas70 miles off shore and back and the boat was right there in the middle of the screen the whole time I especially like the measure feature but I do agree with others that it could display speed For this we use an app called Max Speed it doesnt display knots but MPH instead Yes you do have to purchase maps but its a whole lot cheaper than a chart plotter thats for sure                 Buy this app Dont buy a chart plotter
I am a big fan of Garmin products and have a Garmin Watch use Garmin products for flying private planes However I am very disappointed in the Blue Charts App I paid for the 2013 maps and then again for the 2015 to see if they had added more detail Issues List 1 Major inland waterways including the Tennessee River and lakes do not have any contour lines or depths 2 Speed cannot be displayed a common feature in other applications 3 No autoroute feature Conclusion I have just switched over to Boating USA which addresses all three shortcomings I would consider switching back to Garmin Blue Charts but this application has far more detail on contour lines Garmin has none and it does autorouting and displays speed Not to mention it is 14th the cost        Lacks Contours and Water Depths
One word Awesome Two Words The Best Three words The Best ANYWHERE I originally bought because it integrates with AvctiveCaptain when offline and it does But the interface is revolutionary and so easy to learn and use The BEST of any Ive use and Ive use them all Intuitive and so Versatill Buy it you wont be sorry                 Awesome
This app is the best navigation app for the water                 Great
Does what it says but crashes a lot           Not bad
Developers please download some apple apps and figure out standard user navigation Swipe to delete in menus and icons that are explanatory will help users This app is painful for me to use Gary and Min would be disappointed in the quality of this work     Terrible Interface
Just uploaded the new update and everything is back in business for me this is put me back as a happy sailer              Latest update put me back in business thank you
Will cost the price of a new purchase for update Other than that a good app for offshore              Good app but
Used great for years the last update now causes it to crash and has made it very unreliable     Do not download
You cant use anything useful unless you purchase very expensive add ons        Rubbish
US Coastal lacks depths for major sections of chart It refers to Notes which are not available so that major areas of navigation lack an depth obstruction or other information necessary for navigation Example Astoria OR entrance to Columbia River All areas of channel navigation lack any depth information or even channel marks Large areas of white with no detail and Garmin Charts provide no detail no GPS location for there areas rendering the chart useless and dangerous Desdemona Sands covers 20 of Astoria Bay but has ZERO charting info for depths at high and load tide Additionally make does not show tidal currents on the map as tide shifts This is very useful information that Garmin does not show NobelTec does show that information Surprisingly poor product from Garmin Do not purchase     Poor for marine navigation Do not purchase
For a 50 in app purchase and up to 1 GB of memory this app will give you detailed marine and navigational mapping for everything between the top of Alaska and the bottom of the Carribean a great value You only have to download the portions you need and other maps are available The only down side is that the menu is highly restricitive compared to Garmin Marine nav system hardware The vessel size is too large and not configurable it doesnt project the vessel direction so you can see where the boat is headed one or two hours out it doesnt provide any data while underway other than speed and heading eg no distance or time remaining to your destination or intermediate way points Therefore it is more like a really good and compact chart book with the benefit of seeing where your vessel is on the map than a true navigatgional tool like a full feature Garmin hardware device              Great App But Could Use More Features
what a waist of time installing this app Maps has no detail at all unless you purchase a better version from Garmin dont even bother     poor detailed map
Cant sign into App Store to purchase maps Needs update for iphone 6     Doesnt work with iPhone 6 plus
There is no overhead clearance info available either for bridges or power lines I emailed them and Garmin says if you want that info you need to purchase one of their more expensive plotters I wonder what other critical info they have chosen to leave out This is not a navigational tool rather it is a toy This App is not even very good as a planning tool since no routes can be made Sorry Garmin           Just a toy
Just bought the US Coastal v2014 and the very second it was installed the thing said there was an update and wants another 2999 for the updated map That is a total scam and ripoff Both Garmin and Apple should be ashamed of themselves and there is no easy recourse for this Trying to get support is like trying to find a needle in a haystack TOTAL FAIL This went from an exciting possible experience to a real disappointment SHAME ON YOU BOTH     Mad And Really Bad InApp Maps a total Fail
