Grimace shows you what emotions look like. Explore the whole range of facial expressions by mixing 6 emotions (joy, fear, anger, surprise, sadness and disgust). Combine them to create a seemingly infinite number of variations. Facial ...
Very handy to practice drawing facial expressions I also like the random button gives me more combo s to draw than I could come up with Info the app now clearly shows an icon to tilt into landscape mode                     Great value Wimmmmmm
I first learned about this app by being exposed to an extremely brief demo of it on another platform at which point I was informed that the ability to mix up to 2 of the core foundational emotions at a time was a limitation of the platform but that however there was an iOS app available that was identical but further allowed you to generate mixes from up to 3 of the core foundational emotions at a time I was super excited about that and couldn t wait to check it out However upon finally getting the opportunity to dig into that I discovered that the app wasn t free but that a dollar seemed more than reasonable enough for this upgrade so I bought it Once I opened the app and tried it out though I quickly learned that the iOS version in fact offers nothing more at all and that the behavior is identical in it s limitation to 2 emotions at a time and worst yet that it just cost me a dollar to quickly learn there wasn t any value for me in paying for the app at all So if you re like me and came to check out this app explicitly because you thought it could do just a little more than it s desktop counterpart don t waste your dollar there isn t anything you haven t already seen or already have for free If you re not a student illustrator developer or artist of any form and just happened to stumble over this app organically or it was recommended to you directly from a professional colleague associate or acquaintance as perhaps you look for tools you can use to help individuals on the spectrum then I would still highly recommend it and say that it s well worth your dollar The code and assets that power this tool can be found for free from when the developers shared it with the community some time ago but unless building out software from scratch by hand is a typical part of your day to day life that s not going to be of any help to you and you should really just spend the dollar it ll very much be worth it For those tat can get it running though you won t find anything here you can t already do for free                 Mixing limitations Max Andreola
This was recommended to me at a convention in January but I only just now got it It really helps me to construct expressions and convey emotion in my drawings It s excellent and highly recommended The simplicity is what makes it great                     Excellent reference Rani Sarah
I just got into drawing and this app is great for modeling expressions onto your own characters without making faces to myself or in public lol                     Perfect for drawing faces Brennan Smith
Keeps crashing on my iPhone 6 with v8 02 installed     Crashes Sam in North Cakalakey
I believe strongly that this app could be very beneficial to the special needs community Unfortunately it falls just short of me leaving a great review I have very mixed reviews on this one The app and the graphics are very clean The person who did the drawings is talented I work with developmentally delayed special needs children and adults This does include autism FAS downs fetal alcohol other disabilities I had some of the kiddos I work with try this app out for themselves I received mixed reviews To help the developer I will list some of the statements that I heard from them 1 Needs more choices 2 Cartoon is funny 3 Most of them are scary 4 Kind of weird 5 Not enough difference in some of them I have facial expression posters games programs etc I use them daily to help with both learning developing appropriate emotional response and as a communication device for expressing emotions Personally I like the slider controls that change the different emotions that are available because they are fun But my opinion doesn t matter I found that almost every one of the kids and young adults that tried this program found that the sliders either were too hard for them to control or they were too fast To begin with they have a hard time with fine motor control So I believe that it would work much better for them to have buttons to push instead of the sliders Then they could enjoy watching the animation develop into the desired emotion When I did the slider myself for them they really enjoyed that part They enjoyed it as if it was a cartoon but not for the purposes of communication or education I believe this would be one of the best apps out there for this if the sliders were changed and there were some tweaking on the graphics to accommodate the developmentally delayed community Also a couple more choices but not a lot more would be very beneficial The fact that the graphics aren t too flashy and that it s made to look simple and non busy is of great benefit Please forgive me for leaving only 3 stars If I was reviewing this just for me I would probably leave 4 But I am leaving this review based on The opinions from and the observations of the very type of people that this type of app is made for Please take this as constructive criticism because that is what it is Good luck             Honest review written with special needs input Lady-Lavender
This app isn t a substitute for observation buy a mirror folks but it s a wonderful resource when you are out and about and don t want to scare people by making weird and bizarre faces at random reflective surfaces Let this app do that for you The blending is very smooth great for nailing the subtleties The only thing that I wish it had was the ability to mix more than 2 base expressions Totally worth 0 99                 Excellent reminder Armygayle83
I also found this through Scott McCloud s Making Comics The app itself is a clean interactive version of my favorite part of Scott s book I ll definitely be using this as an art tool Thank you so much for your great work on this app                     Wonderful Manic Folklore
Hi I heard about this app at a Scott McCloud talk and was fascinated by the concept of being able to break down all facial expressions into such a small number of emotions As an artist I think it s a useful tool but I can see how people with Aspergers or other autism spectrum disorders might find this useful as well The one downside is that it took me a while to figure out that you need to tilt the screen into landscape mode to access the facial controls That should be made clearer Other than that awesome app                     Great app Fun and useful Arielledross
