The Hobbit: Official Visual Companion

While it looks promising this app was not ready for prime time and was clearly rushed to the app store before it should have been And DEFINITELY before they should have accepted anyones money for it I believe Id like my white jewels back     Premature launch

What a cool app The one star rating is absurd This app is fun and trivial and the map is totally awesome Worth your money                 Awesome app

I love this app We have to study the book during class and this app came in handy as a great learning tool I just wish the had virtual tour of these places                 Awesome

I believe that the app has no mistakes Some other people thought that the app only said 3 of the 5 wizards from the book Though I do believe they are correct in the movie The Hobbit there are only 3 main wizards Gandalf being on top A really good app                 AWESOME APP

To be fair I was just drawn to the app to see the 3d map I had expected something along the lines of a 3d landscape rather than a static map with a few bumps here or there where mountains are Not entirely discouraged I continued on to the lore section where I was stunned at the extremely generalised simplified and several unexpected inaccuracies that reveal a surprising misunderstanding of various books especially for Harper Collins as a publisher of Tolkiens works Its one thing to keep things somewhat simple to encourage a filmliterate audience to continue to a bookliterate journey but quite another to take a very narrow view of it all in the process spreading clear misconceptions Perhaps I have too high of expectations for the perverse common dissemination of a high literary tradition by publishers Or have all concepts of complexity and diversity been abandoned in modern society     Significant misinterpretations disappointing 3d maps and more

Unresponsive customer service from HarperCollins I had a problem running the Hobbit app on my iPad and had a question for the app developers After sending an inquiry you get an auto response that the person Sam XXX is no longer with the company His message directs you to Isabella XXX who you then find out is also no longer with the company either THEN you are given a general email address business development and youre then forever lost in the system and no one will ever get back to you Company is too big to be responsive to customers needs about the Hobbit app        Great app lousy customer service from HarperCollins

As a lover of cartography I was very pleased to see this in the app store The app does not disappoint in execution and is beautifully done I purchased it mainly for the map and being able to pan and zoom is great                 Slick and beautiful app

This app when I read that the Dwarves forged the Rings of Power for the Elves Seriously I cant even     I stopped and deleted

I noticed a spelling error and I do believe some information is missing Example you only mentioned 3 of the Wizards known as Istari when there are actually 5 And Im a bit rusty having not read the hobbit in a while but I feel some information is just taken from the film adaptations and not directly from the book but I could be wrong like I said I havent read the book in a while If you fixed those few things and maybe added more information then this app would be very insightful for new fans in the Tolkien universe           Its alright

This app continuously freezes andor boots me out I am on an iPad 1 and I am not sure if I can get my money back for the app because it doesnt seem to be compatible with it     Freezes

So surprised this hasnt received more attention Its stunning in its presentation and the background music is just wonderful Such a great app to turn on and cruise around the beautiful 3d map learning more about the story people and places of LOTR I love how it lights up and vignettes the edges as you zoom in Very atmospheric Love it This App is True Art Workreally makes my iPod a Pocket Wonder to Behold                 Stunning Visually and Wonderfully Atmospheric Musically

In order to get past the opening splash screen credits with the corporate sponsors I had to close all programs and reboot my 1st generation iPad I finally got past the splash screen and the tour was enticing but the first time I tried to interact with the map it crashed again This app is useless if you have an older iPad     Crashes constantly

I think it was in the Elves section the question was about who of the Valar awoke the Elves Options were Aulë Manwë or Ilúvatar The answer was Ilúvatar despite the fact that he isnt a Vala because he created them lol Ilúvatar awoke the elves but the Vala that found them was Oromë                 Good but found a wrong answer to something

The only reason theres a star is its necessary in order to submit a review A review Ok Heres my review I want my 5 bucks back I purchased it waited for it to download pushed the app icon it sat on the black promotional screen for 45 seconds it began the first 5 seconds of the leadin song and then the MAGIC began It crashed and returned me to my home screen 4 times before I deleted it went back into the App Store and redownloaded it Same thing happened 2 more times I want my 500 back     Umm

Beautiful work but it is much too dark except for the middle where the light is focused on I have to turn up my brightness all the way just so it is decent enough to see around the light so Id know which way I want to move to Gets me dizzy but thats just me           Too dark

It always crashes when I try to get on the characters but most I cant even get on the app        Please fix

Well its overall a good app has a lot of info on different things but not nearly enough compared to the wiki Its well made but mostly just bells and whistles Overall the wiki provides tons of more information so this isnt exactly the best reference Neat idea though              Could use a little more work

Im going to see the Battle of the Five Armies and this will just make the rest of my day amazing Im going to miss Middle Earth as well as Peter Jackson and JRR Tolkien                 Completes my LAST ADVENTURE

Its been a great app so far The map looks great and there is a lot of info However there is an error I found It says that the Ring of Fire Narya was carried with Círdan the Shipwright to The Undying Lands and that it is safe with him Actually in the books before he departed to the West Círdan gave the ring to Gandalf the Grey Thats why the scene in which Galadriel Elrond and Saruman rescue Gandalf from Dol Guldur is called The Guardians of the Three because it features Galadriel Elrond and Gandalf each of whom hold one of the three Elven Rings of Power That was the only mistake I found so far Besides that its a great app              So far so good

Plays about 5 seconds of music then crashes Every time I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it several times and that didnt fix the problem I hope theres an update with a fix for this bug soon     Cant Even Open

It never worked for me just went back to home screen     No what

This app teases you with a cool map but as soon as you zoom in to view information on any location it wants your Facebook or for you to create an account to view info already contained in the app Poor     Facebook or Registration required

This app has a great UI nice 3D map but once you click somewhere it asks for your facebook and email to register Why is that Just to have your accounts and spam you and your friends The app is 234MB so it has everything inside why it needs my facebook and email     Another spammers

This app is incredible It has sooo much information in it I wouldve paid the full price but it happened to be free the day I decided to buy it I cant understand why this app isnt more popular GET IT                 Amazing

This app is a great companion to help you with the totally new story line that the movie has introduced It features character details that let you know all the dwarves not just the main ones I was really unhappy with the first movie because of the new add ins to the plot but now that I can put all the names to faces I can now almost accept the fact that the changes somehow make it better If you are a super fan like me its a great interactive tool that looks amazing and provides the user with a closer look at the movies motivations toward the story Dont go looking for the classic story because this is very much a movie based app Its a little pricey but I think you get its weight in pretty              Very pretty
