Home Inventory Photo Remote is a free companion app for the Mac home inventory management application, Home Inventory, from Binary Formations (see our website at http://binaryformations.com for more information about Home Inventory). Home Inventory Photo Remote ...
Was really hoping to use this app to inventory our home but quickly realized it wasnt going to happen Rather than allow you to cache a bunch of info quickly into the app and then sync it to the desktop app it maintains an open connection and tries to communicate in realtime Even ten feet from my laptop I had constant dropped connections with the desktop app and when I did successfully enter something it took a long time to sync meaning you would need to have a LOT of patience if you were going to inventory many items Ill be going to regular photos I move over manually to the desktop app     Had high hopes
Needs ability to run stand alone without mac app running Would be AMAZING if it had Dropboxesque style syncing Needs to be able to edit all info mainly serials make and model With these 3 things it would be a 5 star app           Good not great
Works like it should no complaints here                 Works like it should
Like but would like to see the ability to add serial numbers as you take photo           Good but
Good inventory program that works well with Mac app Please add ability to use camera roll photos on iPad so that I can take pictures using external camera and add items remotely since original iPad does not have a builtin camera Thanx                 Camera Roll import
It works great and is great for adding pictures to your inventory but there are a few features that are badly needed Once you add an item to your inventory you cannot edit it again using the app If you make a mistake you must use the desktop product to fix it Custom fields do not work with the app If you have custom fields these must be entered in the desktop app thus you have to touch the same item twice The scan function should have an option to take a picture of the item also If you want to take a picture of the scanned item you have to exit the scan mode find the item in the list and then take the picture An offline option would be really nice allowing you to add items without being connected to your computer and then synch these items with the desktop app later           Works great but needs more features
Works for scanning in items and adding textbut crashes every time I take a photo Specifically right after I tap the blue Use button This is for app version 150 running on iOS 611 connected to Home Inventory running on Mac OS 1083 I have also tried it on a device with iOS 613 with no luck Whats the use of a photo remote that crashes when taking a photo I would be more understanding except I see that this app hasnt been updated by the developer in 9 months     Photo remote that crashes when taking photos
I was really excited when I found out there was a mobile version of Home Inventory As soon as I downloaded it though I realized this app needs to be updated First works on iPad Yes it does work on the iPadif youre on the iPad and hit the 2x button because its built for the iPhone Second you cant use this program AT ALL unless youre remotely connected with the computer version For instance I cant walk around my house with my iPad enter info and sync it later That just doesnt work I can walk around as long as Im connected with the computer version already and add new items However you cant add new information to items already in the database You can scan their barcodes but thats it I have a bunch of placeholders already in the computer edition so theres no way for me to edit those without being at my computer or deleting them first from my computer Third I dont see the point of having 2 different apps with the second one being a backup of your inventory Roll it into 1 app           Works but limited functionality
As far as home inventory apps this is by far the best available This companion app is incredible Using the scanning feature makes it so much fun to inventory everything in my house A definite must have You wouldnt believe how much you THINK you have in your house                 Absolutely amazing product
Started using this to catalog all the boxes in the basement after our move Label a box or bin once like Bin 1 add the name to the app as a location and start taking photos of your items Need to find an Item look it up The added scanner for barcodes is a plus Nicely done guys                 Works Great
With both my iPhone 3GS and MacBook connected to my home wifi the home inventory from the trial version of the desktop app never shows up in the mobile application list As this is a prerequisite for using the mobile app its useless Tried rebooting and restarting and reconnecting and relaunching and reeverythinging The support page doesnt have a user forum or a FAQ or anything else just an invitation to email the developers Update I can connect to the inventory when I install this app to my iPad 2 just not from my iPhone 3GS Cant sort out why Tried reinstalling too     Cant connect to desktop application
My rating for this app is somewhere between three stars and four It works but using it is a bit annoying The biggest problem is keeping the iPhone app in sync with the desktop The program would be much more user friendly if all information could be stored on the mobile device and then uploaded to the desktop at once Other than that it works well The barcode scanner has found almost all items Ive scanned              Like it dont love it
The app itself works well but nearly every item I scanned came up as a case of items For example if I scanned a single bottle of laundry detergent it would load as a case of 12 or however many it ships as from the manufacturer This is more of an issue with the data source than the app but it made the app useless to me 10 down the drain for the desktop app 910 items I scanned came up in bulk quantities           Works but data is inaccurate
Paired with Home Inventory these apps knock it out of the ballpark                 Great companion tool to Home Inventory
Currently my App for taking the photos wont connect to the App on the computer I see it in the list but when I select my computer name nothing happens It just hangs Prior to this meaning before iOS6 was fantastic Currently running this on a iPhone 4           iOS 6 support
This is a great little app but I set off through my house to start snapping images and bar codes but the problem is after each image or bar code the app HAS to send the data back to the main app on my mac so if you go out of wifi range like in the garage its basically useless as it does not store any of the images you take I was under the assumption that youd go and snap all these images on your phone and then sync to get them onto the mac It does not work this way so be aware that if you want this iphone app to work well your wifi network needs to fully cover the area where the items you want to inventory are honestly a bit of a drag for me Apart from that issue it works great the bar code feature is awesome though it would be great if that could pull in list price info too if possible Now I have to go spend money to extend my wifi I think it would be much better and a faster user experience if the app stored all the images and barcode info and then synched it all with the app once you plugged your phone in to the mac or connected via wifi              Good but wifi required to work tough in a big house
I was looking for a substitute for Bento and was hoping this along with the desktop software was it but its not I am looking for software to have on my desktop and then sync with my iPhone This app only works when youre connected to the software via wifi The fact that I cant take my inventory with me just kills the deal Otherwise this looks like it would be great software I understand that this app is only meant to facilitate entering your items but why not make it so I can refer to it when Im away from my computer        Doesnt travel with you
I like the app and its general ease of integration between my macbook air and iPhone But when I purchased this app to start efficiently inventorying my external shedgarage or offsite storage facility I figured I could either have the apps talk to one another via tethering from my iPhone OR by creating a simple Ad Hoc network from my mac Even Bluetooth doesnt work as an alternative Please include either a temporary cache option on the phone for storing data locally or please just update to include some other kind of wifi alternative Thanks           Its Wifi or bust wont work with Tethering or an Ad Hoc network
Great app and appropriately named for the functionality with HI software Tremendous value add Thank you Binary Formations                 Amazing compliment in HI usability
I fully got the chance to document most of the product that I kept the original packaging wbarcode Which it makes it facile to arrange my inventory The only dilemma I run into is that I have to remain on a wifi connection and be close to my laptop but if only my iPad or iPhone could search for the barcode on back devices or take snapshots without the need of wifi while Im at my local electronic store so I can capture the remaining barcode I need to finish my inventory it would be very helpful           Love the App still needs room for improvement
Had a problem with the Apps handling of the Security Sandbox and received an immediate answer from customer support that fixed the problem Also love the program              Great customer support
Thanks for the iPod Touch 4th Gen support That was quick I highly recommend getting the 15 Mac app and using this remote It has proven especially useful to me as a college student trying to figure out what all I own and need to pack with me Devs responded to my earlier suggestions pretty quickly Now Im really enjoying the apps                 Thank you thank you
Really liked the app and spent a considerable amount of time adding information Bought the 4s and the phone app would not work so I went on their site and downloaded the update Now nothing works and I cant even open it looks like I lost everything UPDATE contacted support they worked with me for an hour and fixed the problem I love the update and no data was missing I got a very quick response                 happy
While this app is free it is useless without the 15 Mac app It could very well be worth the 15 but I feel mislead           Free But
This has been a much needed and awaited addition to the very good Home Inventory Mac app Bottom line it works BUT you have to launch the Mac app and open a link to allow the iPhone app to sync photos back to your Mac In the meantime you cannot add any new entries to your inventory unless you end the sync session Not a great workflow but perhaps necessary Background syncing would be great Great feature to add would be to allow users to take pictures to save to a que to add to entries later if you dont have an entry created yet for example Otherwise I experienced a hang or two and a crash or two but it works most of the time Not bad for a 10 release Cant wait to see it finetuned in the next few weeks           Inelegant but it works
When taking a picture the app keeps crashing It used to work perfectly but now that I want to update my inventory it seems to have become useless        This app keeps crashing
This app is amazing Everyone should inventory the contents of their home or office but the reality of it is who has time This app takes the excuses away Start the app on the Mac start it on the iPhone and go take some pictures Enter description or other info on the iPhone or do it later Heck Do it after your house burns down The key is to have it documented Print out the detailed report and email it to yourself and your agent And I will say it I had fun doing it Great app Great peace of mind Great work                 Incredible app with so much value
The does what it is supposed to do add items to the database on your computer But its not very fun to use for a lot of items at once eg when you first start using the desktop software In order to quickly add an item you need to 1 scan the barcode 2 click Done to get back to the list of items 3 select the new item so that you can add a picture and 4 repeat the process This gets tedious very quickly This needs to be one step that scans the bar code takes a picture and moves on to the next item As it is this app is really only useful once you have a full database and are just adding pictures to it           Works well in small quantities
Ive had Home Inventory on my Mac Pro for probably a year I have never entered a single item into the inventory Living in an area where we get hurricanes it would definitely be prudent to keep a household inventory I am sure I have been lazy because I hated the thought of taking pictures downloading them to my HD and importing them into iPhoto and later Photoshop to adjust them for use in Home Inventory I downloaded the app about an hour ago I have my entire home office inventory finished Absolutely great app for adding photos to the inventory My only complaint is that I must have the items entered first on my computer and that I have to tell the computer to find my iPhone which means I will have to continuously return to home office while adding room inventories I would definitely like to see this changed in future revisions              Works as it says
The barcode scanner works sometimes You are supposed to have the item welllit hold the camera 35 inches from the barcode give it a little shake to focus and then the scanner should work Sometimes it does but more often than not I sit there shaking my camera trying to get everything just right Would be better if the scanner could work under less perfect conditions It seems to be luck of the draw and doesnt really save time compared to manually entering since it can take so long to get the conditions right to read the barcode It would be awesome if it worked better           Ok
The app does exactly what it says I was able to inventory my entire house without having to drag my computer from room to room Would be nice to be able to addedit item information from the phone using the app I would also LOVE to see an iPad version Those two things would make it a five star app           Great start
Connects with the Mac version but when I take a photo of the item I want to enter the app immediately crashes I tried deleting the app and reinstalling but it did not help     Crashes
App connects fine to the service on my mac will update the database with text but immediately upon snapping a photo the iOS app crashes If this gets worked out in updated versions it will be an awesome timesaver Until then        crashes upon taking photo
