This will not teach a person the Chinese language but it makes a handy reference when one is working with pinyin and wants to see what the real words are The progressive study has the worthy goal of quickly familiarizing a novice with Chinese text to make it less intimidating The percentage learned status displayed here is deceptive however I have completed enough levels supposedly to be able to recognize over 60 of characters in typical text but from my experiments with Chinese newspapers it is closer to about 40 The number of errors in the English text also increases in the later progressive lessons as if less proofreading were being done An amusing example is where a bride is described as newly web                 Helpful in Learning Characters Mahippos

I m terrible at picking up languages orally Before this app I didn t know where to begin Being able to write the characters of the phonemes I am learning helps me retain much more than I normally could through listening and speaking I appreciate the clear audio along with the etymology of the graphemes as well as the different levels of usage The combination of all the aforementioned factors make this app the most used of all my Chinese learning apps except of course the dictionary                     Beginning Chinese Student in China 2Cnts

I have found this app to be a great tool especially for learning the proper way to write the characters It has been a good addition to my classes and textbooks Only thing I feel it s missing is stroke order for all characters I have found a few that don t show the writing But we ll worth the money for the added practice                 Great addition to classroom learning The Monkey Hunter

The sound doesn t work when you click on a character within a lesson It works in the glossary of characters but not within the lesson For example in the introduction to pinyin and pronunciation it says Click below to hear the four different tones used in Mandarin and when you click on them nothing happens But if you jump out of the lesson and go to the glossary and then click on the relevant character word then the app will play the sound This is extremely frustrating and a very shabby glitch in the program The developer needs to fix this ASAP for it s a glaring mistake that severely detracts from the app s usefulness What good is reading a lesson on a tonal language if you can t actually hear the tones while doing the lesson It s obviously a bug but it needs to be fixed immediately Otherwise content wise the app seems pretty good But until the developer fixes the sound glitch I recommend any beginning student of Mandarin to buy another app         Annoying sound glitch Anyarup

Good but character trace is a little buggy My son 2yr old knows numbers and colors now because of this but gets frustrated with the bugs in the tracing program                 Good but some bugs thedentist

I just paid for this full version big mistake it does not function properly When I was doing the progressive study section unit 3 it gave me English works instead of pinyin and it s the same word twice When you click on the listen button to hear the pinyin word it s the word but says something totally different in English What a waste of my money and time So much for using this as my school studying     Current download jtranmaldia

I ve been using this app from its free Lite version to this enlarged one It is a great app for learning Chinese I particularly like its way of organizing the characters Seeing another reviewer s claim that this app doesn t promote correct stroke orders I checked with a few of my Chinese friends and they all think the stroke orders demonstrated in this app are perfectly fine and nobody understands what that reviewer actually referred to updated for 0 98 Some new features added recently the index page and the flashcard style sliding within a group make it much easier to look up and browse the characters Nice job                     Great Language App walk2miles

I m using this along with other resources in an attempt to self study Chinese both speaking and writing This is a handy app in that it offers clear audio pronunciation of the words a basic guide and worksheet for writing the characters including stroke order and some good basic description of the characters such as history and evolution which often is helpful to remember them My only complaint is that the character set is limited I would love to have more words This is a basic set contains some important first characters but I m not sure how these characters were chosen                 Limited character set but a good tool for learning Nadador

This app is fun and easy I have struggled with learning characters because my program rosetta stone didnt show me the Stroke Order it just showed the character and i wrote it however i wanted which of course made it rather confusing This app does no such thing it shows the stroke order plus gives a reason for the formation of the character it may not seem like much but in 3 days of having the Lite version i have learned 1 10 and about 6 other characters I love it Plus it has someone say the word character so you can practice speaking too Buying the full version now Xie xie Jay Zhang                     Fun and Easy Ryan1223432
