Karajan® - Music & Ear Trainer

I bought this thinking it would be the endallbeall app Id need for ear training on my iphone Im on a 3G so its a bit slower than the newer models but ive used other ear training apps before so i figured this wasnt some crazy app powerhouse that would bring my phone to its knees like some of the newer games I was very wrong This app is so crappy that whenever i try chord identification exercises the sample of the chord playing skips so much that i can barely hear what the chord is This makes karajan effectively useless for me I tried resetting my phone even to clear the RAM nothing this app is absolutely terrible much like my title states I am very disappointed and am sorry i cannot get my 15 back for this exorbitantly priced debacle     absolutely terrible

This is exactly the kind of program I needed for my music theory class It will definetely help with my ear training as Ill need to have it accomplished pretty well by the end of the year Well worth the price I do however have a couple of suggestions Add cadence identification PAC IAC half plagal deceptive etc Be able to identify inverted major minor and diminished chords Maybe even have a section where you can identify roman numeral analysis of chords 4star app now but if cadences and inversions are added my review will switch to 5 Thanks              Just the program I was looking for

Very good ear training soft for all musicians with very nice user interface                 Great program to learn music

Within three days of buying this App my ability to identify the correct forward interval jumped from the 60 to 90range and more importantly I know which ones I need to focus on thanks to the statistics Im looking forward to learning reverse intervals too now This seems like a pretty solid App to me definitely worth the                 Very cool so far

Who needs ear training for prime octave and major 2nds In interval training youre forced to train on those intervals I havent gotten any better at distinguishing between 4ths and 5ths at all because it takes forever to be asked to PLEASE fix this If you cant recognize octaves you shouldnt be tryin to learn music in the first place Beginner mode is frustratingly remedial Also on chord training youre expected to know what the chords sound like already There isnt any chance of LEARNING from this app It is only PRACTICE for PROFESSIONALS           Ok

I was attracted to this app because of the positive reviews and I must admit the 15 price tag made me think this was going to be packed with goodies However after trying this out I would put a price tag of 199 on this and not a cent more I feel completely duped and ripped off getting an app which plays chords and intervals in cheapsounding midi format and keeps a running tab of how many you get right This app is NOT worth the money do not buy it if you have any sort of feel for what should come in a 15 app     Not worth the price

I ended up purchasing the full version in a lapse of judgment and immediately regretted it Its a great tool for practice but 15 dollars is much too high for such a simple application Stick with the beginner demo or use your actual instrument for more advanced practice           Nice but overpriced

This app is great but the only complaint is that this app does not have the ability to switch from treble clef to base clef              Need ability to switch to bass clef notes

Great app but Needs chord inversion Needs option to put on indivual playing of notes to block playing Chord progressions would be great Melodic and Rhymic dictations would be great The option to have it go either way on intervals instead of just up or down Its a great app just needs these              Needs update

This app works like it is supposed to I wish there were higher quality piano samples though Possibly a melody and rhythm test added to it would make it stand out among the other music apps This is a quality app not sure if it is fully worth the money                 Great missing a few things but satisfying

After using the free version I was very excited to see what 15 would add on to this program Well if youre interested in interval training or pitch Not much at all For the price Karajan is EXTREMELY lacking Im disappointed I spent this much on it I keep hoping for an update to save me from that bitter twinge I get everytime I see its icon but nothing yet           Great app But 15

I love this app But it used to have more options When it was called Karajan I could customize the difficulty to only include specific intervals or chords which is very helpful when a specific interval is giving you trouble And there is no option for harmonic intervals Please consider adding these features for the next update Thanks              Great app needs more options

I am really impressed with this app This is the best and most complete ear training app available It is very well engineered and has been keenly crafted to meet the learning needs of all types of musicians It is also a great teaching tool in and out of the classroom It is fun for all of my music students form the very beginner to the most gifted and advanced of ability Definitely a great buy                 Excellent App

A clumsy interface and not enough customisation make this program a miss Someone will come along and best it at some point so hopefully the developer will get on it        Not yet

This is an excellent ear training program I wish Id had this school when I was just learning music theory but Ill take what I can get now This is a great tool to learn to recognize intervals chords and scales which is great to know in the pursuit of musical excellence Well worth the price whatever the price may be                 Excellent ear training program

Heres the real deal It is a music ear training app None of it sounds real or authentic like a real piano As a result of this app it is possible to detune your ear to what true notes chords and scales should really sound like The developers would really need to improve on the quality of the samples of the piano recording in order for this app to be affective Acoustic piano players will immediately be turned off by the quality of the midi recordings However with the proper updates on sound quality this app can be very useful I do understand that this will mean a larger file size for the app and careful sampling of a real piano is not an easy thing to achieve A possible solution is to merge their app with roland or synthogy Practice dont make perfect Perfect practice makes perfect Sincerely IronMicey911     Needs A Critical Piano Sampling Update

This latest update is amazing Im even happier with the iPad version The Wikipedia explanations are right where I need them and the interface is perfectly intuitive Hats off to the design team                 Best music learning App

Great lil app with lots of resources Its rote learning but its all wrapped up in one neat package wherein you can set up your own lessons and training That said there seems to be one little glitch maybe just on my iPod where the program freezes upon changing the chord selection to 7ths in the difficultyindividual section It worked before so hopefully its not a big deal but Im sure itll be fixed in a future update Happy Training              My ear is warming up

This app has been incredibily helpful with my college ear training classes The piano sounds are pretty bad I havent tried the others but the piano doesnt sound natural Please update to better piano sounds Please And maybe add some rhythmn excercises and melodic dictation With that included I would not mind spending another 15 and would find this app so much more useful Good so far and has so much potential Please build upon it and make it even better              Good but could be better

I am a music studentand one of the biggest roadblocks to understanding music is hearing chordsintervals and scalesI was intimidated by the high pricebut gave in to some good reveiws and suddenlyafter 3 days of using thisI was amazed that my scores were going straight upI went from about 20 to at least 60 in about 2 daysYou will understand music better after a few daysWhether its a pop song or Mahlers 8th symphony youll understand any piece of music betterIf youre also hesitant about the priceget it anywayI am extremely impressed with the results and would give this app 6 stars if I could                 Best App Ever

I have used this a long time I do not know what the other people dissing it are doing Mine has never malfunctioned It covers a lot of ear training Ive seen some reviewers say that this is testing not learning Of course they must not have read about it before downloading It is for ear training not for theory And it is very good for learning to recognize intervals chords etc You listen you select what you think the interval is and it tells you which is correct You listen more carefuly each time and eventually you get to recognize the chords and intervals by sound and hear how each is different and unique If someone thinks there is something wrong with that well what can I say                 Excellent app

If you add some things First please add 7th chords Also please add the ability to select which groups of chords or intervals to work on 5 stars if you add this                 The appmakers could be gods

I was stoked about this app even though I thought the cost was high I would have been satisfied though if it just worked like its supposed to The program is buggy and has gotten worse the more Ive used it Its a crapshoot whether it even plays the intervals Im completely disappointed and the 15 price tag adds insult to injury Find another ear training app     Total rip off

As a music student it would be best for the pitch part of the app it you could play more than one note We should have the opption to identify 234 notes all at the same time That would be a great help in ear training              Needs

Intervals are limited to the 8 if you count prime and octave as 2 steps of the diatonic scale that is no minor diminished or augmented intervals Chords and other features are similarly rudimentary Might be helpful to child beginners but much too limited for musicians All in all very disappointing especially conisdering its high price The interface is ok but the content falls far short of usefullness     Very limited

I would love to see an option for intervals and pitch that uses chords instead of just single notes Also I would love higher quality sounds perhaps samples instead of midi tones              Great eartraining app

Oh my God I just got completely ripped off Should have read more of the reviews I just bought this and its clear I made a mistake The chords dont work at all These people are selling a defective product The sound is choppy and distorted and cuts in and out Its useless The intervals are cool but besides that and the chords which as I said dont work theres really not much here Pitch and tempo Give me a break I just threw away 15 I dont know if theres any way I can get a refund but Im going to try and if I cant Im going to complain to Apple     Defective should be pulled

There are a lot of reviews about very small details in this program SO WHAT if they messed up and spelled a chord FADb If you are in anyway intelligent you can get by with the enharmonic misprints It doesnt matter what they call the note Db D Bx Ebbb if you cant gain a great amount of training with this program put down your horn close your mouth use your mallets as a Lincoln Logs Extender pack or use your strings to hang yourself This is the problem with peoplewe rely too much on technology to be 100 perfect never expanding our critical thinking and problem solving skills to something outside the latest Wii game and use a good program for something useful If your IQ is slightly higher than that of Mayonnaise the little problems in this program will be insignificant No matter what your iPhone says if youre looking for perfect bragging stats if you cant put your horn where your mouth is work at WalMart                 GET THIS if you are serious about Ear Training

Great program Even as an advanced pianist who has been playing jazz for nearly 16 years I find this program useful The tempo section is especially challenging and the scales section has way more variety than I would have expected A couple of feature requests A reset all button for statistics Individual user profiles Might not be feasible as it would increase the data storage demands but adding that feature would make Karajan it a more effective teaching tool as instructors could use different profiles for different students you cant expect every student to have an iPhone or iPod touch                 Fantastic

This is a great app for any musician It is difficult to find enough hours in the day for ear training practice and time to listen to recordings This app gives me the chance to capture some ear training time while on the go I use it on my lunch hour I have not had an ounce of trouble with its speed sound etc I like that you can individualize the settings One can work on major scaleschords or the entire range of scaleschords including minormodesetc I wish I had had this app in college Theory is a necessary evil in my mind and I am very glad I have this to help me out                 I really like it

There are three things I would like to see on this program 1Chord inversions 2Chord progressions with inverted chords 3Option to try and identify intervals using the upper note as the root thats kind of trivial in use guess But those are the three things keeping this from being perfect I paid 7080 for Practice Musica and with those additions especially the first two itd be essentially the same program Amazing value Ive had this app since release and I use it at least a few times a week If youre unfamiliar with the program heres what it offers Ear Training for intervals chords scales pitches tempos and key signatures thats more of a music theory exercise rather than an ear training one You can manually type in the interval pitch chord or scale by turning the iPodiPhone sideways and inputing it one the piano only viewable when turned sideways Otherwise when holding it straight up a list of options appears For example you can choose to input that the interval was a minor sixth rather than playing it on the virtual piano Also there are set difficulty adjustments or you can manually pick which ones you want on So if youre having trouble identifying an augmented chord form a diminished chord adjust the settings so that only augmented and diminished chords are played You can also choose the range of notes you want to have those examples played in theres at least 4 or 5 octaves with the lower octaves being harder to identify which in this case is a softwarepiano quality issue But its forgivable when you see how much of the range is very audible Last you can keep tabs on your overall rights and wrongs Which examples ie which specific intervals chords key signatures you identify more often than others and how often you get a specific category ie intervals chords right vs wrong So theres enough stat tracking to keep you informed of your progress A well rounded package that should be on any musicians iPod no question              Its almost the perfect package

Many or most musicians need to know only one clef I only need treble clef but keep getting problems on bass clef I dont play bass or piano        Clef choice not available

Not worth the money Needs many more options For example the interval training and pitch training are EXTREMELY limited If youre a beginner this will help you but if youre a serious musician STAY AWAY        DISAPPOINTING

The program was great at first But now its driving me crazy Its gotten so glitchy Please fix the sound stuttering I cant even play chords anymore     Glitchy

UPDATE The newest version seems to have slowed down for me Definitely not a fan of that Im not sure what was improved besides the color change Otherwise I love this app I have already quizzed myself on literally thousands of pitch intervals not kidding my count is 2308 The best part and what makes it such an effective learning tool is you have full control over which intervals to quiz yourself on so you can drill down and focus on whats giving you trouble Focus on 6ths and 7ths one day 2nds and 3rds the next One request Melody ear training Pitch intervals are much harder to identify when theyre in the context of a melody line I resort to other tools for this but they dont offer the awesome control that you guys do Love the app Extremely useful           Exactly what I wanted

For any theory student working to improve any sort of ear training this is a challenging yet entertaining tool Anyone hesatant to purchase should consider the fact that there are likely far less useful versions of this same basic idea for your computer that surely would not be much cheaper if at all and thats not even taking into consideration the convenience of practicing intervals on the bus For the developer only thing that really bothers me is the quality of the samples A more natural sounding piano or a clearer instrument in general would be so helpful sometimes                 Definitely worth 15

Overall a very useful well designed app Works great for drilling intervals and chords You can drill all intervals up to a 13th all the church modes along with all kinds of other scales and just about every possible certainly every commonly used chord Criticisms though As other reviewers mentioned the quality of the piano sounds is absolutely terrible I guess its cool that there are a few different sounds to pick from though I dont really see much use in them really I mean who wants to use an electric bass sound to drill chords but Id gladly sacrifice those options in favor of good or even just better piano sounds Theres really no excuse for this in this day and age when there are tons of great sounding sample based keyboard instruments out there to be had The range selection really isnt of much use Once you get very far to either extreme rangewise it gets a lot tougher to differentiate pitches Especially with such lame sounds not to harp on that point The Tempo and Pitch sections seem pretty useless How is guessing random notes and tempos going to help anything Youd have to spend an eon doing that to develop perfect pitch Some sort of rhythmic or melodic dictation would be much more useful It would also be very useful to have a chord functionharmonic progression test of some sort even a very basic one It would be nice if you could set the level for each individual test Despite these minor ha issues this is really a great app and Ive been using it a lot With a few improvements itll be indispensable Highly recommended              Overall very useful and well designed Highly recommended

If youre look to better your musical ear this is the app for you I helps you hear the differences in pitches chords while helping you learn scales intervals If you want to hear better and have more knowledge in music theory this is a great app                 Awesome

Just to refute some people say that you cannot test tritones min6 etc You can test any interval up to a maj13th Under level select individual and pick any interval you want Chords are the same One review said you cant do dom7th chords not true You can test some very obscure chords              Good takes some getting used to
