No support for basic GRS 80 WGS 84 and EIRS ellipsoids to be selected by users No support for reference frames ITRF2014 2008 2005 2000 etc to 1997 as well as WGS84 G1762 etc No support for cartographic projection Universal Traverse Mercator UTM No support for global geoid model such as NGA EGM2008 1 x1 WGS84 realizacion geoid model Really how can anyone serious about maps and GIS use it Come on this could be a great app if these basic parameters for project settings are supported             needs some serious coordinate parameter settings to be incorporated holsteinson

Visually simple and appealing and it seems relatively easy to add or export data But as far as I can figure out there s no way to include a legend on the map The only customer support is a discussion thread in which the app developer says there is currently no way to export a legend with a map I can t imagine the intended user for a mapping program without the capability to add legends to maps Color coding is pointless if you can t include an explanation for what the colors mean                 No legends RobertDSullivan

The only support offered is their user list and you ll find way more negative than good After following Instruction manual for importing exactly as described this program will not load any data even though it says you can import KML or shape files it will not import The support button on their website does not even work you can t click on it and get any information This program especially for the money is the worst I have ever purchased Please don t waste your money as I did     No Support at all not even an e mail address Hkugrad

I m a Geography student working on my BA and I can say that Magic Maps isn t very magical It will work for simple projects for non GIS users I ve used the holy grail of GIS software ArcGIS and this isn t even close It s also 20 compared to ArcGIS s price tag of 1200 That being said QGIS a Mac compatible GIS software is free and it is better if you re doing serious GIS data depiction I had about a 50 50 chance of it crashing while trying to import any of the compatible formats I have built up a pretty big library of GIS data from population data for the US to bathometric data for the Caribbean MM had trouble with opening some of my data sets Usually the second or third try would work It isn t very feature rich either The tools it has are the basics but I was hoping for something that allowed for greater data manipulation Overall it s worth 20 for someone who just wants to create some basic data depiction maps but not suitable for serious GIS work             Mediocre GIS software Aceathair

While Magic Maps still needs some refinement it works great for me on Snow Leopard I use Magic Maps often to create stunning geographic illustrations of airline s route networks When I have a problem or in need of software support I contact the software developer Evan Miller and he always response with a solution The software does need some improvements and additional features that I would like to see incorporated However for general map making purposes its great and beats any other map making software in the market today                     Magic Maps is a useful tool airroberto

I purchased this program and loaded it on my desktop and laptop worked really well on both computers I then replaced my laptop with a new MacAir and loaded the software however I only get a blank screen when it loads I have emailed the developer with my problem but have not heard back with any solutions So a 5 star on the program when it works but it is useless on my MacAir         Blank Screen jdjdjddjdjjdskkriuuehrjdnfdf

I initially thought I would have to use software only available for Windows until I found Magic Maps so I am glad this application is available I purchased it for a very specific purpose but based on how it performed I can tell it will be able to handle a lot more My goal was to create a map showing the number of responses to a survey within Zip Codes and color code the areas After reading the simple instructions I was able to import Zip Code shape files for the states in which survey respondents were located and then import my count of responses by Zip Code I chose my numerical ranges and colors and Magic Maps did the rest for me The drag and drop functionality is great I believe I could do a lot more cool things with this application if I needed to However I am only giving four stars because I feel like there are a few things this program still needs First selecting the numerical ranges for the shading could be better by allowing the user to type in the break points rather than clicking to them for instance Second I was able to generate a pdf of my map quite easily but found that the export options were lacking couldn t see if Magic Maps can automatically add a legend for the color key in my exported map Third I think this application requires that you have a basic understanding of how database tables work so you can identify the correct primary key when importing data Perhaps there is a UI way around requiring the user to understand databases but it isn t in this application yet However I would guess that Magic Maps is much easier to use and has a better GUI than most all other mapping applications for Windows In spite of what isn t there yet I think this program is well designed and reflects the simple yet powerful design aesthetic that good Mac Apps tend to have Even though the simplicity hides some of the powerful functionality I think the developer is well on the way to creating an extremely slick application with nearly endless usefulness                 Simple Yet Powerful furrowed bike

I was leery about purchasing this software because of some of the negative comments So far I ve been happy enough with it to continue using it This is not an overly stable app it has crashed a few times when importing or exporting files but the features seem to be there for an entry level map visualization software There are some layer opacity issues I ve noticed lower layer features with a lower opacity show through upper layers with 100 opacity regardless of layer arrangement I d like to see the ability to drag or import an image file for custom graphics That seems to be missing Not bad Not spectacular But for the price I think it has a niche for mapping software             Good Start EdPilot

In my entire career this may be the worst piece of productivity software I have ever purchased It is NOT user friendly at all and the user manual online does nothing to make it any easier Importing simple excel sheet data to plot points is a nightmare Worse than that The program has crashed EVERYTIME I try to save it I have been working on this project for 8 hours now and still have nothing to show my client SAVE YOR MONEY and your time     HORRIBLE SOFTWARE TCD13

This is a great idea for those who work with world data but the app has many problems for instance 1 One can not select countries as text and colors at same time 2 One can not set up ranges writing numbers instead of use up and down both will be great 3 Data ranges do not appear on the map 4 One can not draw lines on the map I gave 2 starts but you got great app please improve it         You get a great idea but you have to improve it Humberto Bernal

So far this application has been a disappointment I have been trying to add additional legend items beyond the initial 5 and the program refuses to let me type in the text box next to the each corresponding color There is no help menu or manual imbedded in the application While the premise of the application is great the actual implemenation is not executed as well as I would like An update is needed to fix key functionality legend editing as well as some sort of tutorial         Legend doesn MHFJr

I love this program I use it to build specific customized maps for presentations and for simple data analysis What I do barely scratches the surface of what it CAN do in the hands of someone who is into GIS and data analysis The best parts though are the responsiveness of the developer and the interaction between him and the user community He frequently sends out emails with information on what he s working on he solicits input from the user community he personally provides solutions to issues that users may face and believe it or not he helps individuals who are trying to stretch the app further than it already goes by working with them to figure out how to get things done                     Really cool app Michael Ferguson from Texas

To be fair I ve only had this app for about an hour Having said that it comes preloaded with very little in terms of maps it crashed on me several times while I was trying to import my shapefile and it appears to have pretty limited functionality So far I m not pleased I will play with it some more and update my review if needed         Not impressed so far Brad C 1981
