Amending my review because I think maybe I was a little too harsh When this works it s probably the best sequencing environment on iOS It s certainly still buggy to an extent and I feel the devs really should have all the bugs ironed out by now so it loses a star for that And it loses another star for lacking certain features that should be a given my biggest issues are A there s still no undo redo feature which everyone has been asking for since the app was released Please if you want to sell apps in the future listen to what your customers want Another issue for me is the program change implementation Bravo for including a feature to send program changes on loading a clip but please please please add the ability to send Bank MSB LSB along with it otherwise it doesn t work with synths that have more Than a single Bank of patches i e I really wanted to sequence nave which responds well to PC except if you send it a PC message without a CC 0 message proceeding it it will only change to presets in the first Bank regardless of which bank you are in This seems like a really simple request I can t imagine why they haven t added this There isn t even a way to work around this because of my last big issue which is the inability to enter precise CC automation The way it is now is great for putting in filter sweeps and the like but the ability to enter a specific value on a specific step would infinitely increase the value of this sequencer Honestly if they addressed those things I would consider this to be an amazing sequencing environment Please spend your time addressing fixing stuff like this and not making more templates for synthesizers that are knobs per function anyway All that said if you really feel the need to sequence stuff within ios in a clip based way this is your best choice but beware of the limitations and bugginess             Ehhhh Dddduncan

I ve been using modstep to sequence my hardware over the last few days and so far I ve found it very inspiring and useful It s a cinch to hook up all my midi gear over USB due to the easy to access IO settings I really like the step sequencer and the app as a whole is responsive and fast                     Intuitive functional and most of all fun MrMonitor

This is a very powerful fully realized sequencer The Ui is clean and easy to understand I ve been able to navigate and learn the app without having to watch tutorials thanks to the built in tutorial mode Great implementation of support for all kinds of external hardware                     Awesome sequencer iutri

I ve playing around with iPads and music production for a couple of years and I just couldn t find a sequencer to make all my killer synths work Cyclops Thor Naive Nanologue and my loop players like Blocs Wave and also the effects Sugar Bytes WOW Live effects Turnado This killer app finally does it and it does it very very well It s not an easy program to learn I m about 5 hours invested and I m getting it Watched the tutorials over and over stoping and replaying None of the other sequencers worked the best was probably the sugar Bytes but on my IPad Air 2 it s just too hard on my eyes I ve been waiting years for this app Thanks for the great work In 2 days this has become my go to sequencer It plays well with many of my other main apps Can t express how great this is We have bean waiting for this for Long time                     Finally the sequencer is here Nkdeddyfastfrets

Was under the impression tape icon to record could be used to freeze tracks and free up resources but that is not the case It s possible to record a loop but not play them back Max sample time is 30 seconds This feature has been brought up on audiobus forms so I m not the only one When recording there is no undo so if you do a bad take you have to delete your clip and start over again In piano roll there s no selection tool to grab a group of notes I know that many people work around these limitations and love the software but it s not doing it for me     Can t play audio loops no undo when recording no note select in piano roll k9d

After figuring out how things work you face with a lot of bugs some of the most annoying I noticed 1 The menus stay opened after selection You have to close them otherwise app stays in awkward state 2 Midi notes get stuck often in on state so you have to disconnect iPad from synth to release them 3 Realtime recording got in to strange state where played notes show up for a moment and then go away Even restarting app does not fix it As mentioned the interface is not intuitive at all You see clips like in Ableton and you think it works like that but then a lot of frustration The app should have free evaluation version Because you pay 20 to be a tester for him Very weak product yet         Good idea buggy implementation Eugene2008

If you want a sequencer for jamming or live performance this is it Easily the best sequencer for IOS Super fun to play with and it plays well apart from a few bugs with the IOS ecosystem Unfortunately it s still not quite there But I have confidence in this developer He keeps working on improving this sequencer and I m 95 certain he uses it for his own music What s more he listens to the users and addresses their concerns This thing is a labour of love and it shows As a sequencer it is super flexible It handles drums and notes just fine gives you a step sequencer and piano roll and you can obviously modulate any CC you can think of Creating templates for synths is super easy and you can even feed midi back into the sequencer for further craziness The session vew is basically Ableton Live If you like Ableton Live clips you ll be fine with this Nice touches include programmable chord note pads and the ability to send different pads to different midi channels instruments or wherever The piano roll is not quite there While you can do most things you d expect including tuplets and key signatures the interface is a little clunky Improvements are supposedly coming in the next version which will be nice What would make the piano roll top notch would be some support for groove templates and better tools for transposition within a scale inversions reflections that kind of thing Also it needs a song mode You can work around the lack of this but it s a little clunky As a host it s still a little buggy I currently find AUM a better fit for my purposes which works great with ModStep However the interface for hosting in ModStep has a lot of potential This could be a great one stop solution for improvisation when the bugs are ironed out and they will be this developer cares too much                 It s good one day it will be perfect Cianoc123

New update crashes on startup iPad Pro running iOS 10 0 2 This is the best app I ve yet to find that can actually sync all of the other apps I use the midi capabilities are outstanding I wish there was more audio functionality like being able to send channels to specific outputs or being able to route audio from other apps and recording them into loops kind of like Ableton live and then I think this app can really be the one DAW If you can please investigate and fix this bug it would be much appreciated I use this app way too often for it not to start up If you need my help please reach out I would be more than happy to give you the Xcode logs or crash log Thanks                     Help please amazing app btw Svvari

This is a truly ambitious app that pays off in so many ways that the remaining bugs are quite livable and even understandable considering how much it does in a notoriously unstable corner of the iOS world Nothing does what it does I bought it to sequence my outboard gear but haven t even got there yet since I m having so much fun with my existing apps This is now my primary creation tool The workflow just completely clicks with me Main bugs I have are the inability to turn off open IAA apps automatically and frequent MIDI note hangs when looping a scene for a while Other than that this thing is where I spend most of my creation time and likely will be for the future Great work devs keep it up                 Just amazing Herman Muenster

I would love for this to be my favorite DAW on IOS but the lack of a pre roll makes it virtually unusable for me in that respect I may be missing something but how is it that you re supposed to be able to use the onscreen keyboard pads matrix etc to record clips if you have to switch back to the clip screen for the clip to record If this isn t the case there needs to be better documentation Pressing play and waiting for the loop to come around is definitely not the answer as that s not something that you have to do in other apps Please add a pre roll so that I can feel that I didn t waste my money             Close SHK THT

i can see how people think its complex or confusing but i suppose i am one of those that after playing around with it for a good 10mins i instantly got what to do this is the best sequencer on ios the 1 1 update fixed so much and made it so much easier to get around and i have no issues as i used to before the update like when opening the app no sound and had to restart hope the modstep team keeps it updated                     amazing sequencer Benoskanov

DO NOT BUY Ug so I really needed a good midi sequencer I decided to ignore the negative reviews and give mod step a shot It just looks so good in theory Unfortunately all of the negative reviews were accurate I can handle the occasional crash but the interface itself is pretty buggy which makes just putting together a basic project a slog I m super disappointed To my mind there is still no great midi sequencer out there for iOS but at the moment I ll stick with using beat maker 2 It isn t great arrangement wise but at least it works consistently and the interface is a pleasure to use Please update this crap I would love to change my review if this app ever lives up to its potential     Should ve Listened Nefelin.Eric

I often say that MIDI sequencer apps are the riskiest music purchases on iOS and ModStep kind of illustrates the point Whereas a bad synth app or drum machine may still get used from time to time a MIDI sequencer either becomes an integral part of your workflow or fails to have much use at all So far it s the latter for me with ModStep which hurts a bit given the pricetag There s tons of promise here it s a traditional piano roll MIDI editor sequencer with added features like a built in sampler and even some rudimentary synth instruments The editor is nice and the templates included to hook it up with popular apps and hardware are a nice touch Unfortunately the app was riddled with crashes on my iPad2 in the early going even though the description specifically referenced being able to run on iPad2 and perhaps even iPad1 Maybe it was due to my own lack of expertise with MIDI routing but I also found it very difficult to set up MIDI control over various apps or prevent it from controlling multiple apps at one time Ultimately buying ModStep just made me realize how much better MultiTrackStudio MTS already is at all of these core functions MIDI editing sampling internal instruments while ALSO serving as a great DAW There s promise here and I m sure some can find it in this app but given the alternatives I have my doubts this will get used much             Disappointed but may improve with a newer iPad and additional development HouseOfHomuth

Update This is now five star app for me Yes there are still some bugs but the ability to export perfect loops of your sequences using InterAp audio is a feature I ve been wanting for a very long time It s one of the more frustrating elements of iPad music for me I m able to generate tons of content that I will be able to put on my octatrack Of course increase in instability would be welcome but I never intended it as my primary sequencer It s best for generating loop content When it works this app is a genuine marvel I managed to get about 4 apps flowing with various modulated parameters and for the first time I felt like I could actual compose complete movements on the iPad However the app is currently plagued with bugs Crashing IAA apps locked in slots the screen going blank it s not a short list I m looking forward to the integration of Ableton Link and hopeful that the stability issues will fall away If so this might prove the most important app since Audiobus                     Hopeful Nivekevil

I bought the app when it came out and have pulled my hair out on up to the recent 1 0 2 update with bugs bugs bugs The app simply does not cover the basics folks Yeah the bells and whistles are nice but without the basics it s pointless There is no MIDI import to be found anywhere in the app or in the manual All other big midi apps have midi import Another basic feature that was missing in 1 0 1 was proper tempo viewing and changing May be fixed in the recent update but it again illustrates the lack of basic functionality This app has the potential to outrank them all but I don t see that happening with the lack of basic functionality I m officially tired of dealing with this app Very disappointed Be prepared to spend LOTS of time doing very simple things     Disappointed Jatwood145

This app could be the next most awesome thing Super powerful and a great approach to modern mobile workflow But wow It needs some serious UI improvements Start by labeling things Most buttons are cryptic only giving up their functions when pressed This may or may not ruin the musical thing you were just doing Other buttons remain an enigma even when used Also unclear how to do many basic things like load a new sound preset Drag the name randomly to UI elements until it works Add some labels stick to tried and true conventions in many common functions and this app could become the one to beat Please keep up development I m so close to loving this app             Powerful and rough around the edges ferociousautodidact
