Monthly Prescribing Reference (MPR)

Medscape Micromedex MerkMedicus and even Epocrates provide much better more complete info And these are all free apps too The best drug info app is still Lexicomp but its expensive you get what you pay for        Info too lacking

I downloaded the application and was initially happy with the functionality I looked up a new antiplatelet medication Effient and compared it to the older drug in the category Plavix I was a little disappointed with the lack of in depth information but it was fairly helpful I then looked up Uloric to compare it with the previous gout medication allopurinol I had to look up allopurinol under the its brand name Zyloprim no big deal I wanted more information on the cardiovascular and hepatic problems with Uloric but again there was only a cursory mention of the issues I then wanted to compare 2 thiazide diuretics They are hydrochlorothiazide HCTZ and chlorthalidone First I looked up HCTZ I then searched for chlorthalidone and there is no separate listing It is mentioned as a component of Tenoretic atenolol plus chlorthalidone but not as a separate medication I have been prescribing the 25 mg dose lately however so I promise that it exists I assume that this is because MPR only publishes information given to it by brand manufacturers but unfortunately thats just not good enough Recent evidence suggests that chlorthalidone is a better medication than HCTZ but you wouldnt know that by looking here BOTTOM LINE It is useful for brief descriptions of brand name medications but not as useful for some generics           Poor coverage of generic medications

Its like the book I was getting in the mail but less paper wasted It took a while for it to update but isnt a problem now                 Drugs

crashes with search function please fix     update no good

Im a FNP and used to use this app multiple times a day But now every time I attempt to use the search function it crashes This started a couple of updates ago and has not been fixed even with several additional updates Frustrating     Search function crashes

Havent been able to use since upgraded to ios7     Keeps crashing

Things that are missing include off label indications and references good anti microbial information renal and hepatic dosing alterations thorough pharmacodynamics like absorption and half life mechanism of action formulary information and drug costs That being said I really like the prescribing notes for each category of drugs I also think the warnings contraindications and side effects portions are great Think its interesting that MPR keeps name brands separate as indications and dosing may be different Also updates rather frequently The clinical tables are new and VERY helpful Not as helpful as Tarascons pharmacopeia but still nice and has more stuff arguably              Incomplete but good information and reliable smooth app

I use this alot when Im in the office for drug content and drug reference The monographs are easy to read and formatted perfectly while I am on the go and need information instantaneously                 Great medical reference

Update please I use this app a lot it crashes as soon as I try to open it now     Does not work please fix

MPR is super handy to use as a student in the clinics The interactions are great I would definitely recommend to other physicians                 Great app

Love this app As an anesthesiologist I am out of practice in what drugdose is the latest and greatest for various disease conditions This app has that info at my fingertips plus a lot more The info is something I would have expected of two other excellent apps Medscape or Epocrates Since I have both Epocrates and Medscape I nearly skipped downloading this one Im glad I downloaded it Highly recommend as an addition to the other two mentioned Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is when you register it asks for you year of brith instead of birth Medical apps need meticulous attention to detail If that simple mistake has been overlooked I am concerned there may be others Otherwise terrific app and free besides              Very nice app

I tried to use the app yesterday to check for interactions before writing a prescription and I could not find the feature anywhere since the update If its still there its ridiculously hard to find That was my number one use for this app which I have happily used for years Please bring it back or make it much easier to use     What happened to interaction checker

Great app and has come to be very useful in my daily practice I have one question though how do you delete your inbox messages They are really starting to add up                 Very useful

They removed the interaction checker which was one of the best resources on the app     Bad update

This is more like a PDR than a true drug reference Epocrates gives far more information and is easier to navigate Yes Epocrates costs money you get what you pay for        Cant compare to Epocrates

I use the actually book at work EVERYDAY It is my next best friend but this just took it to a whole new level Now I can stay up to date anywhere anytime without having to wait for my new book or having my book at all I HIGHLY recommend this to my fellow nurses PAs Physicians etc Outstanding                 Outstanding

Great app for information on the medications It would be great if we can renew our patients medications on here with Eprescribe              It will be nice to add Eprescribe on app

By far the cleanest easiest to use up to date drug reference ap Ive used them all Paid for them all And always come back to MPR No reason to waste your time on other concise reference                 Cant live wout

This is a great tool to use in combination with epocratesmedscape It has drugs listed by indication which can help make better decisions on which drug to use for your individualized patient                 Good supplemental app

Been using the print edition of MPR for ages and I am glad they have a simple to use version for my iPhone The calculators are a nice touch Hope a drug intx checker is in development Recommended for all in the healthcaremedical fields                 Great app a must have for all in healthcare
