I thought I might give it a chance even though the devs are sexist and only give female voices free I spent the money to buy the male voices and now even tho it shows as purchased in the upgrades screen and I click restore purchases it won t restore This app could be better too The recording feature only lets you listen to yourself rather than working like Rosetta Stone and analyzing your speech to help you out Adding this feature would let me bump the rating one star If they would fix the broken restore purchases feature I d bump it up another star If they would fix both of these things and add handwriting recognition and teaching of the characters I d surely change my review altogether and rate it 5 stars         I m Disappointed umpitygrumpity

If you are learning Mandarin you need this app It is the perfect companion for any beginner since developing strong phonemic awareness is the key to learning any language This app complements any textbook The 1 99 in app purchase for all the lessons and quizzes is definitely worth it My only complaint the reason why the app loses a star some of the recordings of the p b t and d initial phonemes sound like the microphone used for the recording was overdriven leading to distortion This makes it difficult to select the correct answer The same goes for n ng finals Perhaps more exaggerated pronunciations would help However these features just might not be salient to my North American ear Additional things I would pay for A progress tracker showing daily monthly improvement and which trouble phonemes tones the user needs to work on a la khan academy would accelerate language learning A hero random sound endurance mode where the entire table and all tones are quizzed A typing mode that requires identifying the phoneme tone without multiple choice answers This would be especially useful for c x q s initials Integrate Apple or Google s voice recognition If integrated a say this mode could be implemented If a computer could understand chances are a native Mandarin Chinese speaker could too While this app is called Pin Pin and focuses on Pinyin Zhuyin Bopomofo Mandarin Pronunciation System MPS Tongyong Romanization and Yale Romanization are still in use Learning traditional character input would be very useful Since the opening of the App Store in 2008 I ve only written a handful of reviews Pin Pin is a great app                 Indispensable study tool Untakennickname99

To date I have spent a lot of money and time trying to learn Mandarin Chinese from the many commercially available packages In each case my attempt has failed as I struggled to even pronounce the content of the provided lessons I didn t realize that whereas the Pinyin system used by those packages does provide the best avenue for Westerners to learn Mandarin that system must itself be first studied and thoroughly understood The Pin Pin app seems to be perfect for that purpose I have only just begun to use the app and already I have begun to CLEARLY understand how to read and how to CORRECTLY pronounce Pinyin I have no doubt that after I finish the schedule in this app I will finally be able to use any of the expensive language training packages that I now own to really learn the language I would give this app six stars if it were possible                     Excellent App aaronearl
