Ports Of Call The Maritime Simulation Game ON SALE till next update new: real map used (internet required for this function) - see your ships on a worldwide map -- and look at the game harbors ...
Paid 1 99 in app store for this game and can t even play because there is no keyboard that pops up when it comes time to fill in the registration form and enter a name and company name Would appreciate a refund at the very least Awful Broke Scoooter3
there are a few overwhelming amounts that turn me off on this one such as the Pirates the thief s from the company funds and the lack of ships it don t matter if you buy it or not the ships are still the same what happen to the different kinds that you could use like in the 1986 version they say if you visit your office more that the stealing wont happen and thats not true if any thing it seems like it happens more after you visit the office also if the governments of todays world were as good at finding contraband as the governments in this game there wouldn t be any problems in the world I am sorry but today s african coast pirates don t make that many successful raids on a ship that size without a fight or a government coming down on them if your gonna make a realistic game as listed on your website by adding contraband people stealing from your funds and bogus pirates that rob you better then real ones do then you better start by adding the punishment that comes along with it such as government interaction embezzlement investigation and so on Not a bad game but Texashangman
I love economic tycoon games I played this a lot on my Amiga But It s a straight up port of the 1988 game code warts and all The interface is awful For example everywhere are yes no or multiple choice options that you need to click and THEN hit another OK button to accept The gameplay is way too unforgiving On the easiest difficulty level you can t break even then they hit you with multiple hundred thousands in thefts I like the art though Jim Sach s style is simple and endearing Don t bother buying this cynical moneygrab Loved it in 1988 Doesn t hold up Anniecanoe
I remember playing this game on my Amiga as a child This app is exactly the same and I love it It s a fun game but very involved If you are looking for instant gratification this is not the game for you Not sure why people are complaining about the graphics the interface looks exactly as it did in the 80 s I think that was the point of releasing this game It s something that feeds the nostalgia for those of us that remember the game how it used to be If you need flashy graphics don t have time to figure out the game and get bored quickly this game is not for you If you miss the good ol days of loading 3 floppy disks to play 1 game and listening to the grinding sound of the Amiga loading you ll love it It s the same great game it always was Exactly as I remember it bekkih1
A nasty port of a game that was vaguely good decades ago Please stop flogging the same dead horse guys you have been selling the game for years with minimal enhancements Awful let it die or rewrite it for your target platform This is an iPhone not an 8 bit EGA 8088 and it is astonishing the way my bad review was immediately countered with a positive position that advertised all their other products Outstanding Bad port Thfggg
I got this game because I like sims and I wanted to see the google maps integration The map integration shows up at the beginning of the game and you can see all the ports of call It s pretty cool that you can see where they are and what they really look like For the game itself the graphics are not as polished as some other titles but that s not what this game is about Working your ships and building your wealth is I enjoyed piloting the ship into the different harbors Also some of the other challenges were fun too Eg you have to avoid collisions with other ships using radar etc I kept thinking I m going to stop playing but kept going one more round Worth a try Good sim game ipod-max2
This is a very deep and engaging game that offers a unique experience It s apparently a port from the Amiga platform which I had never played The only warning for people is that it s definitely not a pick up and play in the grocery line kind of game It takes some time to learn and time to play which I don t happen to have a problem with being a seasoned PC gamer but some may find it intimidating The devs seem to be very active with this app constantly updating and taking feedback which is always great to see Overall a great effort sure to please deep strategy fans Great Sim jleazott
Not my cup of tea and neither does it interest me as I m not a fond lover of such games Nevertheless it might appeal to any shipping cargo lovers out there And there re needs to improve on the graphics and UI hopefully in the near future Cargo Shipping game AlvinDj
This game has loads of content It s an amazing combination of simulation and other game elements and it makes for a compelling experience However it isn t great for pick up and play content To really experience everything the game has to offer you ll have to sit down with it for awhile You might want to try the Lite first though because it s a pretty hefty game to just start up Really Great But Not For Everyone uCENGIZu
The concept behind Port Of Call is simple but great In Ports Of Call you re the owner of a shipping company and you have to make as much profit as you can You do that by transporting stuff for other firms but it isn t as simple as it sounds because tugs are expensive and it s much cheaper to steer out of the port yourself but than you also take the risk of wrecking your ship When your on the see also all kind of thinks can happen Your ship can be attack by pirates and sometimes there appears a ship on the radar and you have to steer around it That is quite difficult You have to take all kind of decisions I really enjoyed playing Port Of Call and the ship simulation is also very much fun When I first started it wasn t simple to understand but with a bit of trying and some logic I started to understand the idea and now I m making very much profit The google maps mode so you can see your ships on the satellite looks good and is fun to watch Everything is perfect except one thing and that s a big downside of the game the interface You see that the game is ported from the computer the buttons are small sometimes too small to touch good and the graphics are a bit outdated You ve got the options to zoom out your screen and have bigger buttons next to the main screen but that off course isn t an elegant solution If this game should be updated with a new interface especially made for the iPhone this game should be much better Now it s still great and I recommend it to people that like playing management game and doesn t matter how a game looks I think this is a great game and I give it 4 5 stars just because it s very much fun to play Great game graphics not so good FrogUSA
I ve only just scratched the surface of this game but there is a lot to it It is an interesting combo of vintage video game graphics combined with real satellite maps Definitely different Great adaptation of a classic Minhala
I d never heard of the original game but the description sounded pretty cool but I don t like this game Just didn t captivate me and I still don t know what some of the buttons do because instructions are lousy Needless to say I haven t spent much time on this game so it s not a completely fair review but from what I ve seen so far I don t want to play again I don t get it lililiiil
Nice trading sim game despite the graphics Takes some time to get into the game though and I wish instructions were clearer at the start Overall it s good if you like strategy sim games Not bad at all Squeaker@TA
If you are a fan of the original or like deep trading simulation this is the game for You Dont buy it if you like fancy graphics and arcade style trading games One thing I like it just_me_now
Ive been mossing this game for a long time thank you so much for bringing it to my iphone I absolutely love thos game and it s just as great on my as i remember Buy this Sweet Maelick
This plays just like the classice Ports of Call that I played years many on my old Amiga computer This version is great since I can finally play for long game time periods anywhere I am and not be locked to a computer Some improvements are really neeeded however it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to save a raft on the iPod This was always difficult on the computer but extremely hard on iPod I ve done it once in I can t count the number of tries PLEASE do something about this while the game is great I would really like some new ports cargos and something other than tugs on strike After 26 game years a little more variety would be nice it is too hard to stop the clock to save a game or check the office Please add an override so you can do these easier Please consider spicing this version up or releasing a newer one I m still playing but honestly after several months I m beginning to get bored Great game but some improvements would be really nice JeffTG
Don t waste your money worst app ever 100 pure crap will_kern_for_food
Edit The new update worked perfectly and loaded my saved game without a hitch I am giving this five stars because I enjoy realistic simulations and this is in my opinion the premier example of a detailed business simulation game on this platform You are attempting to survive the realities of the business with all its expected and random aspects For a better review look at AlbieOne s This game is a deep and engrossing simulation of the business of maritime shipping If you are a fan of trading style games this could be for you The graphics are there just to guide you through the game but are not the point I personally enjoy these types of games and find figuring strategies interesting If you are expecting flashy graphics as the main point of a game Then this game may not be for you If you on the other hand are into retro graphics and involved gameplay this game may be what you are looking for An involving realistic sim lvillalt
This game definitely has potential It s deep and gameplay is generally fun While I can appreiate the rustic look an feel of an old classic what is desperately needed is a re issue of this game with modern graphics and sounds Just imagine how much more fun the ship simulator woul be if the graphics were up to par Developer please work on a new version I would definitely purchase Has potential Kashalot
It looks like lots of people who played the original love this game but I never played it before It is hard to get over the 1987 graphics it is a direct port and it definitely isn t a game you can pick up a couple of minutes at a time If you ve never heard of this game it might not be for you calbearfan
Ports of Call 1 3 is a wonderful and deep maritime simulation game for the iPhone and iPod Touch I found myself spending hours and hours making runs across the globe with multiple ships The game has two modes one with ship control and one without Both the windowed and full screen interfaces are functional and button presses are responsive and quick The art and graphics although dated do not take away from what the game is I actually enjoyed them myself If you re into economic simulations and trading games you ll find yourself putting many hours into this one That being said if you re not prepared for micromanagement on some level then this game will not appeal to you Great example of the genre Fletchnuts
Don t buy this app I bought it because I thought it looked kind of interesting but unless you are really interested in the boating industry don t buy this Plus the text is really small an hard to read and the graphics are really bad Boring Theetlet
Awesome job guys This game brings back a lot of memories from my Amiga 500 gaming days It has the exact same look feel and sounds as the original classic Please don t change a thing For those critics who can t appreciate the beauty of a classic please also make available on the iPhone a version of your more updated PoC Sim3d or PoC XXL Thanks for taking the time to make this available on the iPhone Perfect port of a classic game Wakama
The game is too hard Toohaed Eoit
It s taken me a while to write this review as I wanted to give the game a fair run And to be fair the underlying game is good and has sufficient depth to keep you going But and it s a big but the graphics are terrible For an iphone game to compete graphics are important We re not in the 90s anymore and while this game may have its roots there the developers needs to realise they are just that roots and not the substance of the app There is no room for nostalgia in this cut throat arena That said the actual game is absorbing With control over ships in your fleet cargo destinations and budget there is a lot to keep you involved and if you need more there is the actual steering of the ship to manage as well So will I continue to play it Yes but truth be told I m not sure for how long It could be such a good game but the experience is so poor With other high quality games now appearing at similar prices this one fails badly in the main raison d etre for iphone gaming Wanted to like this more lostlogik USA
Even on the easyist setting it is too hard for it own good Other than that it is one if the best games that I have I played almost non stop for 5 hours Hard yet fun Crusebalini
You think they could have tried harder All I got to say I m dissapointed (brian)-(dog)
I was a bit skeptical at first but after playing the game have become addicted It s somewhat realistic to the shipping world I work for a shipping company which is probably why I enjoy it I could see why someone who is not familiar with the shipping industry could have trouble but if a dumb ex sailor can figure it out keep at it WHAT A GREAT GAME Captain_Sam
But it really isn t that hard to figure out despite what people say Just find a good trading route and stick with it There are instructions though I don t see why Redx475
I am a very open minded person but this game just was terrible For example i made 10m from shipping and then i took one of those risk deals with a time limit I got there and my ship was detained for 60 days due to an epidemic i lost 4m thinking it was a fluke i tried another the samething happened 5times in a row with 2 different ships this happened and the entire time i was losing 200k 1 2m every week becasue someone stole it Now i went from 10m to being in debt because of a bunch of garbage I made a new profile went through all that again and got to 10m then the exact same stuff happened I have quit playing this and i don t recommend this game at all It is absolutely terrible Im being generous here MikeSouthard3
I played this game on PC back when I had a 25 MHz Tandy I put in many many hours and this feels exactly the same I can t say enough good things about it Great game Reminds me of the 90 s IamNabil
This is the worst waste of money in the app store Brutal interface terrible graphics and an all around worthless crap game DO NOT BUY Horrible Ramarsh
Looked like it would be fun but many mispellings and almost no help or tutorials Waste of 5 Poorly put together Spruz
The game was to hard to get used to and was much much much to realistic Not good critic243
Boring Boring Zoo too ggh
Usually I am Leary of purchasing apps that have poor reviews for some reason I thought I would give this one a shot poor choice Not even close to being worth 5 bucks they should be ashamed An incredible waste of money wrcmedia
It s very hard to control in the beggining but you get the hang of it the graphics seem to be like the old game I wouldn t know habeing never played it on a computer but great game and highly adictive Great game Rmit
this is an old hence the graphics game but it is still a lot better and more complex than the majority of game on the app store well worth picking up if you are looking for something a put deeper than the usual 5 minute entertainment dont be fooled by the graphics thesoupdragon
If you played this game back in the day you will definitely enjoy this Though there s much to be desired still in the way this was ported it s still playable and fun Imperfect port of great game is still great @masonlee
I played this long time ago as on DOS so ya decade ago and I liked it than It was easier on PC to controls and turn than the iPhone but that understandable I guess Now I could play it whenever I need to kill time and it does This game makes u use ur busness side and ur driving side and no vilonce By driving I mean controling the ship It s not for the average player as their better games out their specially cheaper Truthly if I wasn t a fan of the game I wouldn t have got it but I don t regret getting it either Good game faiqthefreak
great gameplay graphics look to be a direct port of the old game so they could stand some updating highly addicting jeffalopolis
This is a horrible game Makes no sense and difficult to navigate Directions are worthless Don t waste your money dstewart10
Not worth the money Don t buy Not worth the JDC1986
It s simple in style but fun in play definately worth the 5 Fun Game COSportsPhotog
For fans of the original and hardcore sim fans will like the depth of this game it can be a little challenging if you re unfamiliar but once you get the hang of things it becomes easier I found steering the ship game to be a bit too hard and could use some tweaks maybe Other then that its a faithful port of the game An old school hardcore sim Scott30

At first I thought this game would be hard to control because of the small buttons but it s great and just like the old classic I m really happy I bought the game and glad it has all the old graphics and sounds This game is great for anyone especially if you like strategy games I haven t found any bugs in the game yet Definitely worth the 5 bucks Get it BVazz
This game offers some intriguing entertainment if you can get past the bad graphics and gramatical errors I think you have something good going just needs a little bit of fine detail polishing Overall however this is a must have for those who love strategy games because the gameplay itself is unique and worth the money Get it today Good Gameplay But Needs Polishing CDubby94

Since I didnt have any previous experience with Amiga version Ports of Call was all new to me First off I thoroughly enjoy this game The simulation and the depth are there and kept me thinking the entire time I was playing If youre into simtype games Ports of Call contentwise is pretty good
The premise is that youre running your own shipping company and your decisions determine the fate of your company You can choose your home port manage finances back at the home office buysell vessels and decide on charter assignments among other things Theres even a section where you steer your vessel which for me takes some practice Of course you can always a tug for a price In terms of your vessel you also have a hand in repairs and refueling so you really do get some experience with every aspect of the shipping industry
Ports of Call is a port from more than two decades ago and honestly while the graphics arent comparable to those found in todays games it really doesnt matter nor impact gameplay I really dont need heavy graphics since I think most games today rely too much on aweinspiring graphics and too little on content The ones used from the original port are more than adequate but they can always be made more vibrant to appeal to the broader audience The sound effects add just the right touch
What could use some changes are the buttons When I first started playing I was confused by the buttons in the main window and then the same buttons with the same functionality on the righthand side Hopefully that can addressed in an update If there was better way to steer ships either by tilt or even through a dpad that would help But then again it does provide you with a minimal taste as good as you can get for a game of the difficulties with steering a vessel
Ports of Call has the depth and with a few adjustments it could be even better Overall this is a classic strategic sim game and Im glad this has been brought to the iPhoneiPod Touch The dev plans to updateupgrade the game and Im looking forward to seeing more from him A Deep Sim Game From the Past

The concept behind Port Of Call is simple but great In Ports Of Call youre the owner of a shipping company and you have to make as much profit as you can You do that by transporting stuff for other firms but it isnt as simple as it sounds because tugs are expensive and its much cheaper to steer out of the port yourself but than you also take the risk of wrecking your ship When your on the see also all kind of thinks can happen Your ship can be attack by pirates and sometimes there appears a ship on the radar and you have to steer around it That is quite difficult You have to take all kind of decisions
I really enjoyed playing Port Of Call and the ship simulation is also very much fun When I first started it wasnt simple to understand but with a bit of trying and some logic I started to understand the idea and now Im making very much profit The google maps mode so you can see your ships on the satellite looks good and is fun to watch Everything is perfect except one thing and thats a big downside of the game the interface You see that the game is ported from the computer the buttons are small sometimes too small to touch good and the graphics are a bit outdated Youve got the options to zoom out your screen and have bigger buttons next to the main screen but that off course isnt an elegant solution If this game should be updated with a new interface especially made for the iPhone this game should be much better Now its still great and I recommend it to people that like playing management game and doesnt matter how a game looks
I think this is a great game and I give it 45 stars just because its very much fun to play Great game graphics not so good
Dont buy this app I bought it because I thought it looked kind of interesting but unless you are really interested in the boating industry dont buy this Plus the text is really small an hard to read and the graphics are really bad Boring
The game is too hard Toohaed
Paid 199 in app store for this game and cant even play because there is no keyboard that pops up when it comes time to fill in the registration form and enter a name and company name Would appreciate a refund at the very least Awful Broke
Id never heard of the original game but the description sounded pretty cool but I dont like this game Just didnt captivate me and I still dont know what some of the buttons do because instructions are lousy Needless to say I havent spent much time on this game so its not a completely fair review but from what Ive seen so far I dont want to play again I dont get it
This plays just like the classice Ports of Call that I played years many on my old Amiga computer This version is great since I can finally play for long gametime periods anywhere I am and not be locked to a computer Some improvements are really neeeded however it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to save a raft on the iPod This was always difficult on the computer but extremely hard on iPod Ive done it once in I cant count the number of tries PLEASE do something about this while the game is great I would really like some new ports cargos and something other than tugs on strike After 26 game years a little more variety would be nice it is too hard to stop the clock to save a game or check the office Please add an override so you can do these easier
Please consider spicing this version up or releasing a newer one Im still playing but honestly after several months Im beginning to get bored Great game but some improvements would be really nice
The game was to hard to get used to and was much much much to realistic Not good
This game definitely has potential Its deep and gameplay is generally fun While I can appreiate the rustic look an feel of an old classic what is desperately needed is a reissue of this game with modern graphics and sounds Just imagine how much more fun the ship simulator woul be if the graphics were up to par Developer please work on a new version I would definitely purchase Has potential
This game has loads of content Its an amazing combination of simulation and other game elements and it makes for a compelling experience However it isnt great for pick up and play content To really experience everything the game has to offer youll have to sit down with it for awhile You might want to try the Lite first though because its a pretty hefty game to just start up Really Great But Not For Everyone
Looked like it would be funbut many mispellings and almost no help or tutorials Waste of 5 Poorly put together
Nice trading sim game despite the graphics Takes some time to get into the game though and I wish instructions were clearer at the start Overall its good if you like strategysim games Not bad at all
I played this game on PC back when I had a 25 MHz Tandy I put in many many hours and this feels exactly the same I cant say enough good things about it Great game Reminds me of the 90s
Edit
The new update worked perfectly and loaded my saved game without a hitch I am giving this five stars because I enjoy realistic simulations and this is in my opinion the premier example of a detailed business simulation game on this platform You are attempting to survive the realities of the business with all its expected and random aspects For a better review look at AlbieOnes
This game is a deep and engrossing simulation of the business of maritime shipping If you are a fan of tradingstyle games this could be for you The graphics are there just to guide you through the game but are not the point
I personally enjoy these types of games and find figuring strategies interesting
If you are expecting flashy graphics as the main point of a game Then this game may not be for you If you on the other hand are into retro graphics and involved gameplay this game may be what you are looking for An involving realistic sim
Its taken me a while to write this review as I wanted to give the game a fair run And to be fair the underlying game is good and has sufficient depth to keep you going But and its a big but the graphics are terrible For an iphone game to compete graphics are important Were not in the 90s anymore and while this game may have its roots there the developers needs to realise they are just that roots and not the substance of the app There is no room for nostalgia in this cut throat arena
That said the actual game is absorbing With control over ships in your fleet cargo destinations and budget there is a lot to keep you involved and if you need more there is the actual steering of the ship to manage as well
So will I continue to play it Yes but truth be told Im not sure for how long It could be such a good game but the experience is so poor With other high quality games now appearing at similar prices this one fails badly in the main raison detre for iphone gaming Wanted to like this more
this is an old hence the graphics game
but it is still a lot better and more complex than the majority of game on the app store
well worth picking up if you are looking for something a put deeper than the usual 5 minute entertainment dont be fooled by the graphics
This is the worst waste of money in the app store Brutal interface terrible graphics and an all around worthless crap game DO NOT BUY Horrible
This is a very deep and engaging game that offers a unique experience Its apparently a port from the Amiga platform which I had never played The only warning for people is that its definitely not a pickup and play in the grocery line kind of game It takes some time to learn and time to play which I dont happen to have a problem with being a seasoned PC gamer but some may find it intimidating The devs seem to be very active with this app constantly updating and taking feedback which is always great to see Overall a great effort sure to please deep strategy fans Great Sim
Ports of Call 13 is a wonderful and deep maritime simulation game for the iPhone and iPod Touch I found myself spending hours and hours making runs across the globe with multiple ships The game has two modes one with ship control and one without Both the windowed and full screen interfaces are functional and button presses are responsive and quick The art and graphics although dated do not take away from what the game is I actually enjoyed them myself If youre into economic simulations and trading games youll find yourself putting many hours into this one
That being said if youre not prepared for micromanagement on some level then this game will not appeal to you Great example of the genre
It looks like lots of people who played the original love this game but I never played it before It is hard to get over the 1987 graphics it is a direct port and it definitely isnt a game you can pick up a couple of minutes at a time If youve never heard of this game it might not be for you
