RailModeller Pro is a planning tool for designing model railroad and slot car layouts. Key features include: - Layouts of up to 10 x 10km (6.2 x 6.2 miles) in size, - Multi-brand libraries with 240 track systems, - ...
I started designing a layout within one minute of opening the application Select the library of track and start designing by dragging and dropping track pieces I wanted to see what I could do with Marklin C Track and it was much easier than pencil and paper I strongly recommend this for anyone planning a layout                     Perfect Track Planner ShedRail
There is NOTHING Intuitive about this app     Rail Modeller pro Docmodius
Getting ready to pull my childhood post war Lionels out of storage for my second childhood ie retirement Obviously this app is a tremendous upgrade from the old pencil and paper method of design especially given all the new track systems that have curves of many different diameters Only been using it a few days but overall it works very well Relatively easy to choose your preferred brand of track and design a layout Some things are not totaly intuitive at first but the more I use it the more comfortable I am with how it works Took off a star because it is relatively expensive but I would add back half a star if I could based upon an experience with customer support after OS update I had a problem with the app triggering an anti virus alert and subsequently failing to launch Contacted support via the website late one afternoon and a solution was waiting in my inbox early the next morning Cudos It would be nice if all developers were that responsive I wish there were a way to generate grades both up and down from a zero elevation Have been able to work around this with the use of layers but that seems sort of cumbersome As someone else said a Save As option in the File menu would be nice to have And while the Close a Gap feature works well with some track systems like Atlas O which has half curves and various short straight sections it does not work well at all with Gargraves which has longer curved sections and only a few straight lengths The latter requires extensive use of the saw tool which works but it is very tedious to get a cut section the correct length to join within tolerance A cut to fit tool would help                 Great design aid Btg1
Easy in most respects Fast The Group Ugroup feature saves a lot of time It s also excellent for moving track around to try out what if changes One complaint the feature to add more pieces of whatever was the last thing you selected from the parts library should have a toggle off option rather than being always on As another reviewer noted there is not much else availble for the Mac RailModeller Pro works very well in the Mac version This software made me a planner The layout I am building now is far better than I could have done without this software                 Game changing TomWarger
I used this ap to do a layout but was dissapointed that they didn t include Gargraves track I was able to use other track to get an approximate of the way the layout would look that was ok but it would be nice if they could include Gargraves Their track has been around for generations and is still a good choice for 0 gauge in the USA I have a layout in the basement and had originally used the new Lionel track but it rusted so badly that I had to replace it with the Gargraves stainless No problem with the new track                 No Gargraves Hyduke
I haven t mastered this thing yet but I have been able to design a shelf layout with it The addition of the ability to import images over which to trace is a big help to someone like me who used Illustrator for this purpose previously I haven t found a way to resize type and some of the controls are less than intuitive but overall I find the program easy to use Next up elevations                 Works for Me PastJay
I happily used Version 4 for a long time and am now even happier with Version 5 3 Excellent user interface much more like other Mac Apps making it easier to learn and use Track library I am using KATO UniTrack N scale is fully up to date and easy to use I had a couple questions and using thier email support got quick and helpful replies                     Retired computer professional lifelong model railroader Al G Hart
RailModeller Pro shines where it counts which is planning a layout The controls are intuitive and the product gets updated on a regular basis I have used it for one O scale layout and three HO layouts as well as two slot car tracks I have played with more powerful programs on the PC but keep coming back to the simplicity and reliabilty of RM Pro                     It just works GrumpyNinja64
I miss the handy toolbar shortcut icons Group Ungroup etc that were in earlier versions Also the append track elements function can be maddening scattering unwanted track elements across the layout I can never remember to hold down the option key to select an element without appending more elements There should be a program preference to disable or modify the append function Still this is the best tool around for designing layouts on the Mac and invaluable for my use                 Version 5 2 4 hearncl
I have limited space and this app is paramount to planning Trial and error is really boring after some time                     Perfect to adequate layout to space available eb99filho
I ve tried several solutions and this is by far the easiest application to use My criteria for purchase was 1 being able to work with grades flat layouts imo are generally boring 2 an app that is native to OS X I didn t want an app that requires working in a Windows VM or bootcamping and 3 doesn t have a steep learning curve Not all the features are here yet and not all the libraries are fully complete but there is excellent variety What makes this software worth 5 stars is the impressive responsiveness of the developer He s working with his user community to improve the program which is awesome I made a suggestion and got a response within 2 days Users can also vote on new feature priority The software is easy enough to get a plan going in a couple days from purchase Try the demo                     best layout modeller for Mac ScottV_GA
Excellent ergonomics Saves a ton of time Kept up to date I have been through a ton of variations all virtual It s saved me a lot of time The app is stable and has been updated twice in the last 2 months The developer is responsive to ideas and bugs The built in parts list is fantastic as well as the layout tools I like the feature set and the price point Only con for me is not being able to draw polygons with a splines UPDATE for version 5 1 After using this tool for a year I continue to enjoy it Key to this has been the willingness of the developer to fix bugs and add features suggested by users I recently discovered that there is a menu command to generate options for connecting an open section of track This is a big time saver on complex layouts Nothing s perfect but this tool saves time and is a real Mac application as opposed to something ported from another platform with compromises                     True Mac App Get this App Boca Raton
This is one of those little software gems that you stumble upon and wonder how you did without it For the niche of model railway layout design this app is pretty much perfect I d love to see an iPad version of this software someday but as it stands this is wonderful software I can recommend without reservations In addition the developer is an incredibly nice guy who has always taken the time to respond personally to questions and comments I ve had about his software In short if you re looking for a way to easily design an accurate plan for a model railroad look no further                     The perfect tool for railway layout design Filmgeek47
Works fine better than paper and pencil and satisfies my needs as a new designer I have run into a few things I d like to highligh making this a better valued app First the Lionel Fast Track Library is outdated both in tracks currently available and prices Second the ways to print and or save the layout parts list is extremely limited given options not effective so my only work around is a screen shot for a file and print you should be able to print the list directly cvs export and then Excel import is takes to long and doen t work you should have an Excel file save format Finally the add track and grouping functions are squirrelly they don t always work and cursor positioning are inconsistent and too sensitive                 First Time User jefenoval
Basic editing of settrack components works but there is very limited support for flex track Flex track sections have limited modification options and cannot be modified once snapped to another piece of track         Okay but not complete Cpe111
While I will likely never be able to utilize all the features of this app I thought it was the best bet for a mac user The fact that they have a demo version really helps and after using it for a few days to start the planning for my garden railroad I decided it was worth the money to get the ful app I m glad I did I have mocked up a couple differnt plans and the app made it a snap to jump between concepts and try different things The user interface is clean and easy to use and it s clear the developers have spent time using the app and listening to users to add features Some of my favorite features are the layers functionality the parts inventory and bill of materials the smart insert features and the fact that the LGB track library was included Some improvements I would like to suggest when drawing a line or shape often it just drops the smallest object it can and I have to go back and resize and or re orient I m not a fan of the icon I like the concept but it could be a bit clearer hard to tell it s a train when it s in my dock Lastly maybe including some nice sample layout files to mess around with would be a good idea or making some tutorials to walk through completing tasks in a step by step guided method woiuld be helpful in demonstrating to a new user the features and power of the application Overall I m happy with the purchase and I like being able to pay a fair price for software that I will use and provides functionality to a somewhat I have to imagine a niche audience As a point of reference prior to switching to this application I was using SCARM on Windows and I find this an improvement in user interface ease of use and providing the ability to use my preferred operating system Updates and support seems quite good so I look forward to seeing what features the developer has in store for the future                 Nicely Done App and Prefer to Use Over SCARM RJBME
I was skeptical having downloaded the free version and finding only HO slot car tracks Also with the name of RailModeller I assumed model railroads were the priority I bought the Pro version and found it has everything I need to build my NINCO slot car layout It is very intuitive to use also I didn t read any directions and found I just have to select which piece and it will add track just by moving the mouse to the portion and direction of the track I want I can highly recommend for complicated NINCO layouts I m very happy they support Mac and NINCO                     NINCO Slot Car track Larryyy
I had such high hopes for this product but Many of the major manufactures of track are not listed in the catalog of available track This limits you if abillity to plan your railroad empire for example there are no three way switches No track from Walthers or Micro Engineering is a huge disappointment             Limited value BruceD
I am running Version 5 0 15 514 When attempting to install the latest update to version 5 0 16 OS X version 10 11 3 flags the following We could not complete your update Failed to verify the preflight file It is not signed by Apple         Latest update not installable RWA49
Railmodeller Pro is a complete rewrite of the same authors previous track drawing program This version has some vast improvements but it lacks things like Save as so you can save different versions of your designs Undo will only back step a few times Open recent does not work the 3D view lacks a landscape view function like the previous version did which can make it difficult to visualize the final product and most irritatingly of all you can not set the grade of a selection of track with any switches in place Additional minor gripes would include the parts libraries being sorted by part ID number instead of by description with no way to change it and an FAQ HELP section that is virtually useless for a power user Also I still cannot figure out how to print save my projects in 1 1 All that said the program is functional and while it has some weird quirks mentioned above it really is a nice program and it s very stable The added features so you can add multiple parts at the same time the layer functions and increased parts palate make this worth the 35 It s also important to note that the author is making updates and fixing things on a regular basis so I m hopeful that my list of issues will be addressed at some point             Great start but needs lots of little fixes freezeWDW
Very disappointed Has major problems with simple tasks like selecting objects Takes multiple attempts to select object Often will select an object on a layer that is not the active layer And that s just one example Maybe if I put in more time learning the peculiarities of the program it would be better But I bought it hoping to save time and it s not     Buggy Dave of Daves
Apart from Railmodeler Pro the only viable track planning options for Mac OS users is XTrackCAD which requires the installation of space eating utilities Quartz xCode and a port management program and although XTrackCAD is almost ridiculously full featured the learning curve is steep Railmodeler Pro offers what amounts to a subset of XTrackCAD s core functionality including track libraries layers smart track insertion helices parallel tracks and flex track connection text shapes grades and elevations There s plenty of room for improvement and additions though No track libraries for the increasingly popular HOn3 gauge are provided for example I d lke to see keyboard shortcuts and or toolbar icons for the smart insert functions it s a drag to have to choose them from the menu I ran into some stability issues with the version I m using although this did not result in file corruption or loss of my work I ve had stability issues with Safari too since upgrading to El Capitan so I m not sure Railmodeler Pro is at fault Just be sure to save your work frequently I sum I recommend this program for Mac OS users who will be comfortable with a core subset of the features offered by XTrackCAD TIP Don t try to position flex track by adjusting the positioning controls on the track segment use the Smart Insert Connect with Flex Track command instead                 A good start but room to grow Ancieno
I purchased this software to help me layout a fairly simplistic track design and unfortunately it doesn t do that very well There are few glitches in this app that need to be corrected One good example using atlas n scale code 80 track in order to get the track parallel after a turnout you can use any radius half turn they somehow all magically get the track parallel again Using code 55 track offers the same consistency however this time they re all slightly off parallel The method of entering grades elevations is so counter intuitive as to be useless in my opinion Completely disappointed so much so that I m going to request a refund For me it was a waste of money     With this app you can defy the laws of mathmatics thedukeofno
I ve been using previous versions of this app for several years and have designed a couple of layouts with it note my first layout had at least 73 revisions so the program has been put through its paces This new version kept the best features of the old and added some new ones including a fresh feel The learning curve for the new version was short couple of hours The new version is worth the money and has many new features like resizing which is maintained between sessions thank you                     Great Mac app for Model RR design GManKC123
I ve been using this program for about a week now trying to hammer out an ideal layout for my basement It has some features in it that are really nice and a few other features that are definitely lacking Maybe I m biased being accustomed to the way that XTrackCAD works but as it stands right now working with flex track elevations and easements is incredibly tedious One of the things that XTrackCAD offered that I got used to was the ability to simulate a layout Being able to see how rolling stock fit in the siding yards helped me plan a little better for actual operation Other times sets of track which appear to be connected visually turn out not to be connected and it s difficult to troubleshoot exactly where the problem is It s a good program with plenty of room to grow I just hope this stays active and improves over time                 A good planning tool with a few shortcomings Bisticlz
There are only a few model train software programs for the Mac system and after reading the available reviews I chose this as the best fit for my skills I LOVE this app Easy and intuitive to use click and drag with a vast library of manufacturers products and specs to work with it s a lot of fun putting my imagination to work and seeing it come together in real time And when I get stuck there is a feature that let s the program solve gaps for me using various track pieces from the library I ve learned how to use layers to add basic shapes representing houses factories etc I m still learning the capabilities but I wholeheartedly endorse this Well worth the cost and with continuous upgrades and improvements it just gets better all the time Mike McGuire Avon NC                     A must for any Mac based train modeler Gintsfan53
Started with version 10 0 8 and have not had a lick of trouble with first ambitious layout Only problem it it makes me stay up past bedtime with even more ideas I am a novice with MR software but am happy to actually have something this easy to use that seems to match what you can do with off the shelf track I m looking forward to the changes they are working on Price is reasonable and similar to those for other computing platforms which I don t have Enjoy                     Very intuitive and easy to use Red Merle (the real one)
this program is very difficult to use It s learning curve is straight up I am going to try to get my money back         VERY difficult to use Brian Wiswell
