Measure distances from the iPhone to a visible object Simply: 1 - hold the device upright on your knee, look at the target and then tap the screen 2 - stand up, overlap the target and the image ...
On my sailboat I am always in need of a quick range check to channel markers or land The problem is that I have to use a chart plotter or such or know the exact height of the remote object and have a transient to measure the angles This tool reverses the math and I need only know the distance in height between my first and second reading Here is a great trick for very accurate fixes 1 get a yard stick or something you have the exact height of 2 set that height in the settings 3 take care to accurately overlap the two images I took 14 range fixes from my iPhone on my sailboat and compared them to the very accurate chart plotter The accuracy was amazingly close Perhaps the developer would consider adding azimuth and bearing in the future Excellent concept and ease of use E@Epstein.net1
