I m sure glad I found this app during a time it was a freebie because I s be pretty angry if I d had to pay for it Three BIG problems 1 Frequent lockups 2 Frequent crashes 3 Absolute refusal to recognize certain letters of the alphabet Is Helvetica too big a challenge I should have been more wary since this app has not been updated in quite a while Maybe it s allergic to iOS 10     Frustrating chrischram
Nothing fancy but works well P S Latest version works just fine too                     Works nicely annesarbor
Using the same cleaned up image file from a paperback that I used for cheaper apps the OCR conversion was not as good Had lots of errors requiring editing The output options are good though and the app overall operation is good I hope the OCR conversion gets improved It could be a great app             Needs better OCR conversion No Ready
I have a lot of familiarity with OCR and really expected something accurate and reliable from ReadIris Unfortunately this app did not help me as every time I export a PDF into this app it imports it again and again until all memory is filled on my iPad and the app crashes It has balked at every PDF I throw at it The company provides no support that I can find and their support part of their website does not even include the iPad version What a disappointing and expensive experience Caveat emptor     Buggy and unworkable Baumann_9
130 languages but not Thai which I need it to convert my documents I wish I had not bought this app Please give me my money back The company should make it clear before purchasing what languages they have to offer When you include the Thai language I will gladly give you five stars     Don t have the language i needed SanctityKnight
If you have a retina display iPad then this app will make very good searchable PDFs from screen captures The problem is when you choose Photos from your camera roll to add into the ReadIris interface you can only add one at a time There is no way to select multiple images at once e g a multi page document This makes adding each image a 4 step process click add button navigate to camera roll scroll to photo choose photo import repeat which for multiple images is a real hassle How hard is it to add the multi select feature             Good but one step from Great NomadzNet
I started with OCR back in the 1970s with a company the developed it I ve used Readiris products for years I ve also used other people s stuff OCR is best used for text because you can review spelling and grammar with a good word processor If the scan was 99 accurate at the character level then you can expect 1 bad character like and 8 mistaken for a B every 100 characters An 8 in a word is easy for a spell checker but if you are trying to scan the phone book a misplaced number like a 6 for an 8 is going to require very carefully proof reading the document The bottom line is that this product is pretty good How good depends on the quality of the source and the type of material                     Good Software captain-nice
I got this on sale for around ten bucks and it s a pretty good value at that price The reviews are all over the place so I was a little skittish about buying it I found it to be technically excellent but somewhat lacking in the user experience First of all to get good recognition you have to do a few obvious things Get a great photo first of all That means the iPad camera is OK but not great The iPhone 5S camera yields great results Secondly make sure there is plenty of light don t try scanning a photo taken in low light with a grainy image Thirdly get close up to the page and make sure the page is as flat as possible Fourthly use a flash if you can such as on the iPhone to get crisp results OK so now you ve got a great image My experience is that a sharp well lit image gives 98 99 accuracy There were only the tiniest of problems such as a 1 being converted to an l or an em dash being converted into a regular hyphen or a list of items having an incorrect end of line On the other hand a poorly lit iPad image yielded almost complete gobbledygook The big problem with this app is the way it handles multi column text which is to say it doesn t It just converts from top to bottom regardless of columns even though it clearly identifies blocks of text lined up properly You can fix this by selecting multiple areas but that s very tedious tap on the first area then use two fingers to tap on each subsequent area It would be much easier if this were completely automatic or even if you could swipe with a finger to select multiple areas So that s why I say this is technically excellent but could use a better user experience So I give it 3 stars             Technically great needs better user experience Púca
I am very disappointed with this app It offers very little for what it cost me My money was wasted on this product     Mm Mileyard
Bought iris scan 2 exec because on the box it says comparable to iPad Cannot connect it via Bluetooth Only connect to computer Then checked out their website It directs to this app Installed it expensive STILL DOES NOT WORK DO NOT BUY THIS APP     Does not work I want my money back Thiefs Riaan Vermeulen
The Readiris for iPad program is for converting jpeg files to readable documents apparently It is very expensive and does work when you understand what it is for However there is no support for it at all in the support sections of their site to tell you how it works on the iPad and the support system is impossible I also purchased their portable scanner and it too works However I cannot get a scanned image on a memory card not even the one they provided to transfer to the iPad Without that capability this program is worthless for the iPad There are apps out there for 3 that do what this one is supposed to do Their products work but only in a limited way and their support is worthless Come back later to see if they have done the real work of making sure their products work together and have provided real support systems Do not buy their products now In addition they make a point of the scanner being portable a strong point in its favor when using an iPad But it must be charged on a computer So if it runs down on the road and you have only the iPad out of luck Not good planning It sort of negates the portable idea if using the scanner with an iPad Drmikep     Not ready Mikep66
First of all if you buy their scanner prepare for it to only work on a PC It crashed each time I tied to recognize and save I had to force quit ReadIris to use the Mac They sell this software don t let the high price fool you and it too does not work When you hook it up with the iPad camera connection kit you will get the message device needs too much power even with a split USB cable customer tech support LAUGHABLE They don t even have a phone number You have to submit a complaint online They may or may not answer it I put in a request a week ago still nothing I m currently trying to get my money back and buy a scanner and software from a serious company I hope I ve saved someone a huge headache     DO NOT BUT THIS OR IRIS SCANNERS eric24824
As far as I can tell this app does nothing useful     As far as I can tell Hatethisss
ORIGINAL REVIEW see update also This application is disingenuous It is simply worthless as a standalone iPad app Here are some of the many problems that make this app worthless No in app camera system No meaningful in app image editor Image importer is lacking can t even get the orientation right can only import one image at a time Imagine analyzer screen where you are supposed to be able to select elements is worthless and nonintuitive Images taken with the iPad 2 camera are insufficient quality to be OCR d and by this I mean it will not get even 10 of the text right Very slow OCR processing 1 min per page Can only handle one project at a time meaning that you can only export pages as a single images or all at once to build a different pdf you have to delete all of the images you ve imported and analyzed Basically what you are paying for is an OCR algorithm that utterly fails to work with images taken by the iPad 2 camera So in order to actually use the app you d basically have to scan and edit images there is no color correction contrast etc options in this app from another source upload them to your photo library and then go through the painful process of importing analyzing them and OCRing them with this slow program You can also import already made pdfs for OCRing but they better be higher resolution than the iPad s camera if you want greater than 10 OCR recognition In short it is pointless to use this app on the iPad 2 because it requires using another source to be useful and unless you can think of a time when you will be willing to spend a lot of time using an iPad 2 to OCR images obtained from some other source then you will never have a reason to use this over much cheaper and more intuitive desktop OCR software UPDATE I applaud the publisher for updating the app description to note that it does not work with images taken with the iPad2 camera Accordingly I will give them an extra star since I suppose this app could have uses with their hardware platforms so long as buyers understand that it doesn t do much for those without extra standalone scanners that have apple connect functionality         Disappointing Zkeatsjkc
