So crappy freezes every 10 seconds awful     Awful

I HATED IT THE VOICE IS ANNOYING AND IT SKIPS WORDS AND ITS ANNOYING     IT SUCKED

Certainly the app functions But the experience of finding and downloading a book is so clunky The listening controls are also very poorly designed It feels like a 1980s DOS app ported to iOS with no user interface redesign Tech support I helpful but not very aware of what the app could be either If you have less than 4 GB available on your device it will not load new books This seems like an unnecessary threshold I have not used other apps in this category but it would benefit from including the basic UI controls that make iOS apps so easy to use Also you should be able to search for book right from the app Its a multistep multiplatform ask right now Considering I paid 20 for this plus a 99year subscription its a poor value right now Good potential need some good developer TLC though        Works but lack the iOS experience

I got this app to help with reading text books That has help me a lot so far I am able to read through them a lot quicker with this A couple of improvements that would also be extremely helpful is being able to multitask with the app So I can read books ob my device while following along with the audio Another thing the would be helpful is a rewind and fast forward option That way if we want to listen something again we dont have to go back to that page and listen to the all of the stuff before the section we want to reread What has been said before also is downloading to be more efficient At the moment some books dont download unless you go through a couple more steps 3 stars right now Would like to give more           Decent yet needs a couple feature

All of my books are ebooks This app would get 5 stars if I could read them on my iPad and listen to them at the same time           No multitasking support

This app works acceptably for me Im glad I can download preselected books from within the app Using Zoom as opposed to VO with it is possible if a bit tedious Ideally Id like to have books play while in the background That would make it easier to take notes or look things up Also it needs a sleep timer When books were on tape Id only possibly sleep through 45 minutes of a book Currently I could sleep through the entire thing           Functional but could use a few features

This app is terrible theres really no point in downloading this if you own a daisy player its not as functional and you cant download books or listen to them either Also why was the name changed I prefer RFBD     waste of time

As a reading specialist working with students with print disabilities I was excited to hear about this app Unfortunately it doesnt allow for downloading books onto Macs which is the laptop of choice for our students Great voices re wonderful but not if the students cant hear them across devices its back to Bookshare for us     So disappointing

So this app would be great if you could Open the app on the iPad Login Search book titles Select title and download Read book out loud This is not the case You can literally spend hours drudging through the process which looks something like this Download the download manager software on your computer Make sure the download manager software runs properly Open browser and login to Learning Ally Search for book Download book Search your computer to find book file which is NOT identifiable by the title rather the catalog number which is a confusing combination of random letters and numbers ex JL8756 Plug iDevice into computer Open iTunes Click on iDevice Click on Apps under iDevice Scroll to the bottom and find File Sharing window Select Learning Ally app from window on the left and select Click Add File Locate zip file of the book you downloaded on your computer and select Sync iDevice If you are a technologically challenged parent or a child without a computer science background then expect frustration        What a lengthy process

Great idea has helped me alot with college one thing I run into is the app has to be open Would be nice if the app could run in the background but still play for example you open your music app play a song you can exit out of it and go read a text without the music stopping              Good could use some improvements

Very annoying voice and random noises     Bad app

What would make this app great is if one could listen to the app and read either in Either the Nook iBook or Kindle app at the same time Right now I have to listen on my iPhone and read on my iPad Though I have both at the same generally It would be a lot nicer to have the apps run at the same time when traveling              Helpful

This last update has made important improvements But the most lacking is that one can not run in the background allowing the ability to listen while using other apps My most frequent frustration is that I can not use my headphone controls to pause PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this improvement and I will LOVE it        I WANT to love it but

Nice update Downloading directly to the iPad and having the ability to listen with the iPad closed is great much easier and better on battery life This app is better then the Mac app you have to renew that yearly this you will own forever I wish we could get the actual book to display or if it worked with the kindle app I would pay in app purchase on the kindle app to have the ability to run both at the same time The bookshelf feature looks good but slightly cheesy it would be nice to have the actual book cover displayed The next big thing will be the ability to run this off a cloud the books take up way too much space I am sure that Apple will work with you on integrating iCloud with this app It would be nice to be able to select books directly from the app              Getting better

I can get over having to use my computer to download books I can get over most of my textbooks lacking good navigation controls most have maybe chapters linked for skipping to but not pages What I really need is the ability to skip backwards and forwards through the audio Sometimes I want to skip something homework problems in a math book captions for seven pictures but I cannot Without this feature having the audio can get so frustrating it becomes an enormous distraction Just being able to go 30 seconds in either direction would work Even if you dont adjust for changes in speed it would be better The app would be fine but without skipping I may as well find someone to read it aloud to me        Audio Controls

Freezes more often than not when downloading and tells me to check my network connection I have a fast cable connection theres nothing wrong with it Also cannot search from within app must load books onto my account from my laptop first and only then can I download books into the iPad This would be a great app if they would work out the bugs but right now its mostly frustrating           Great idea but

I think that this is a good and helpful app The search option works fairly well Sometimes when you tap on the next button in a list nothing happens           Ms

The app is a great idea but the over all function of the app is very poor The audio is unable to play in the back ground and stops if you hit the table of contents button This means you cant follow along in the book in the kindle nook or iBook apps this is how I usually use reading ally It also cancels downloads on occasion even if you are right next to the wifi router telling you the wifi connection is bad The controls are very primitive for an app that came out after the iPhone 4 You would expect that they would put out an update that would addfix all of these problems since so many people are mentioning all these issues in there reviews           Good idea but needs lots of work

I couldnt get the app to let me search for books or see a list of the college text books A shame as this app has the potential to help so many     Good idea but doesnt work

If you take the time to read the terms no WMA files must be a Learning AllyRFBD member and to familiarize yourself with the app youll find this is a wonderful tool As someone with a learning disability I just wish I could rewind a little instead of having to listen to the entire page again But otherwise its fabulous              Thank you Learning Ally

I teach special education and work with dyslexic students I love the new features where you can assign books to different students My students are finally able to get the most out of their library books Since they are below level readers now they can check out grade level chapter books and read listen to them Plus they have a fluent reader modeling good reading to them and they are understanding the text Ive also downloaded their text books As a teacher I love it and my kids are finally enjoying independent reading time during class                 Awesome

I really do love this app It helps me with school and all the books are free I couldnt live without it                 Its good

This app is great and I use it all the time but at times I find the audio skipping around and the words not matching up Also I find it crashing when Im in the middle of listening and reading a book It works great though And I thoroughly enjoy Learning Ally              Functional but with Flaws

I paid 20 for this app It was useless at the time I was never able to even get a book loaded on the app Now the app is FREE It works much better considering Ive been able to actually play books in it But its frustrating that it lacks basic features such as running in the background Id like to follow along in ibooks display the length of a track being able to fast forward or backward And Im tired of getting invalid book data messages from half the books I try to download and if I transfer them from my computer they take a long time Also it sometimes takes a few gigabytes to be able to unzip a file which is ridiculous on a device with such limited storage and the app seems to drain the battery a lot faster than other audio apps Please make improvements so this excellent service can be more user friendly        Needs Much Improvement

All functions work pretty well and I love having my books whenever I need them But downloading direct from app doesnt work wellalways get an error message about network connection but the network isnt the issue Best to connect to a computer for downloading books App is good for listening and navigating books           Great AppExcept Download Feature

This is my second goround I had membership before this was an app and we hardly used it because of downloading problems I was hoping that the app also had the text of the book highlighted as it was read to aid dyslexics Still waiting for thatgrumble grumbleor as someone else mentioned an addon to Kindle Not sure if this is worth it since my son can read but needs assistance with pronunciation of some words as he reads Visual and audio is the key           Dyslexics need the words too

Im adding a star Support seems to be actively investigating my issue Perhaps they will fix it Id love to see my 130 investment actually work Seems like it does for others Earlier Review Invalid book data every time I try to download Called support and was told I had a weak wifi signal Phooey Tried at three locations where I have administrative control over router Tried iPad and iPhone Plenty of room on device Account in good standing Perfectly good signal What a bummer Normally Id take this up with support and not here but whats left to do Sync books manually with iTunes the other solution not an option Wasted money based on the claim I could download via wifi If you guys fix it or offer me a support path without a dead end Ill gladly give more stars assuming it works then        If only it worked

Theres no question that Learning Ally offers a great service to people like me who are disabled and struggle with normal print The app fulfills its intended purpose of providing audio textbooks to blind and dyslexic readers but just barely Most problematic the app lacks several features that have been available to developers since iOS 4 Audio will not play in the background if the app is closed nor will content continue to download Even within the app switching to the download pane causes the current audio to stop playing The app is also missing finegrained audio tuning Im used to in other apps I would love a 30second back button and the ability to fastforward and rewind at a level other than page by page As I said Learning Ally offers a wonderful service and I certainly dont mean to belittle it The app is simply a far cry from what it could be        A great idea marred by poor execution

This would be a much better app IF it was capable of running in the background not just when the app is running It would be a great app if it did that and allowed inapp downloads from your learning ally account        Okay
