The Science News Prime is now available as a free download on Apple Store for iPad owners. The application is supporting English language. It weighs in at only 2.3 MB to download. The new Science News Prime app version 1.71 has been updated on 2014-11-20. The Apple Store includes a very useful feature that will check if your device and iOS version are both compatible with the app. Most iPhone and iPad are compatible. Prior to upgrading to iOS 10 this app had a Text mode that let you choose a font size that made reading very easy This no longer works Now there is only one very tiny and barely readable font size and it does even respond to the iOS accessibility feature that allows you to increase the font size         Broken with iOS 10 thmas34

This app used to be fantastic This current version is terrible It s like trying to read the magazine with a PDF viewer Honestly I think they re just scanning the paper version of the SN magazine and uploading the image to its iPad users The result is a blurry and cumbersome reading experience     What happened Caleb Cross

As a reader of this magazine since the seventies I was excited to shift my subscription online For the first few years no problem THEN A random update and access to ALL my issues disappeared Restoring doesn t work and SN doesn t follow through with fixing the problem It is not a login problem or a network problem or whatever It is a problem with the app that both SN and Apple are responsible for Until it is fixed DO NOT buy your subscription here     Broken app and no one cares Abu Ta'ir

A year or so ago they had a really good app for reading Science News Then under the guise of improving it they have come out with successive versions each worse than the last Basically the font is JUST TOO SMALL If you have really good eyes you ll probably love it But it s easier to read the paper version then constantly expanding the print in this one Too bad they ll have to continue killing trees for me     Worthless Txskier

With the most recent release I ve lost access to all but a few back issues and do not have access to the current issue My subscription was purchased through iTunes and the restore option is not working properly As a long time subscriber I m hopeful this problem is resolved soon     Broken Restore Dispelled

This app is SO annoying because it doesn t have landscape mode I recently got an iPad pro which is superb in landscape mode The stand keyboard is so nice to use Fire up SN and you have to turn your head sideways Absolutely stops me using the app     Where is landscape mode lajollaguy

Purchased the online access from iTunes for nearly 50 yet cannot seem to gain access through online signup process Each time I check for an update I have to log in and then get stonewalled in the process I am offered the option to purchase individual editions but I ve already paid for a year Somehow this needs to be fixed     Terrible experience with subscription access this is big wind

The Science News content and presentation is excellent 5 stars They need to get more professional app developers for the app 3 stars After failing to have a working version available with IOS 8 the version they have finally released removes all existing issues and requires their re download Unfortunately downloading doesn t work reliably in the new version it constantly pauses and restarts which means unless you have a very fast connection you can t get a full issue downloaded This is on top of previous issues which should have been found with basic usability testing such as Shop view only works in Portrait mode though the magazine can only be viewed in Landscape mode scrolling is page based but the content doesn t line up on the pages Science News Publishers time to get more serious about your development approach You have excellent content and presentation but the app is letting you down I m sure you hold your printers for the print edition to much higher standards than you are holding your developers for the app edition             Excellent Content App is Amateur Catana48

Science News stopped work after the upgrade to ISO 8 After reading for a few minutes the program exits all by itself When you go back in it shows that all your magazines need to be downloaded You try to download a mag you get an index error If you unload the app then reload it you can now download your mags but when you start reading them after a few minutes repeat from above Please fix this problem I like your magazine a lot especially on my iPad                 ISO 8 upgrade problems Likeit111

I ve gotten the print version of Science News for years It s great reporting timely features and I get to learn about the latest science in layman s terms well maybe not the quantum and dark matter topics Turns out I get the iPad version free with my print subscription The app has be great It s the same content as the print but it has all sorts of extras on the iPad version like videos slides shows etc I highly recommend as it s everything is a quick interesting read                     Like the variety and conciseness EO8183

I give up I have a print subscription was excited about getting the online version but have been totally unable to get through the so called authentication process After back and forths on the phone with their so called help person and trying to reset my password I have been totally unsuccessful and have given up     They may know science but clueless about app technology Vincampo

I have to say I really hate the user interface for this magazine First you can t choose between portrait and landscape views Why not I hate reading in landscape Second of all it isn t a straight linear path through the magazine You have to go up or down sometimes and then left or right other times This paradigm does nothing to improve the readers experience Just dispense with the fancy interface and go back to it typical magazine format with a hyperlinked table of contents         Just make it a standard magazine Waswhatwer

Alas I have been a ready of the print copies for over 35 years I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the articles Unfortunately this app doesn t function well enough to be useful Logging in is difficult The login page references a link button that does not exist Going through the other links you can eventually find a way to log in Once logged in the app doesn t support screen rotation Since the text is small the next natural action is to double click the text to enlarge Unfortunately when the text is zoomed in the menu selection on the left of the screen now covers the text so that you cannot conveniently read it All in all the interface needs work before it is useful     Needs work orchidstoo

I m a print subscriber initializing an account for sciencenews org I recommend doing this online rather than via app After nearly an hour of failed authentications and reset passwords I gave up and had more luck on the website Now that I m in the site it s big and pretty but rather S L O W and the archives still sometimes bug me to pay and sometimes not Wassup with that Logging out and back in clears its little head It seems to have inordinate trouble id ing me and my permissions Trouble             Still got work to do srso4

I love the magazine timely science news written for smart and educated people but the whole merged subscription thing is not working right and I can t get into any useful member settings account status information I ve never liked the website too cluttered I think now the website the app and the magazine have the same content It would be great It needs an overhaul to make the membership and non magazine stuff navigate better                 Love the magazine in paper and on the iPad Blizzard1s2d

All of a sudden the last several editions fail to appear on the iPad and nothing allows them to be downloaded I have a subscription through the fall of 2013 so all issues should be available I have removed and reinstalled the application several times rebooted the iPad etc The app just isn t working properly I don t know why they haven t fixed it     Application Problems Nancy G in Chicago

Update Unfortunately the promises the publisher made to me that resulted in my previous review have not materialized and neither has the magazine The June 17 issue was late by several days The June 24 issue resulted in a failure to publish They listed it on their website but it was not made available to users The Science News staff blamed Apple Now it is July 1 and the July 1 issue is NOT available This is not acceptable performance for a weekly news magazine Science News and Apple have failed to deliver the issues promised by a subscription I want a refund I reported a problem regarding the notifications and cover updates to SNPrime and they actually responded found the problem and agreed to fix it This is extremely rare for an iPad magazine publisher The crew at Science News is to be commended for being so conscientious This is a good quality app but it is too pricey for what you get SNPrime costs almost as much as New Scientist but New Scientist gives you much more of everything and much deeper coverage and is still weekly     A failure to publish Squirrely_in_Chicago
