Well Time to move on to another app I had been using this app for the last couple years It was a great app but now that they updated it I have to pay for the features I ALREADY had That s not a great way to keep your customers Any other app that I have had and it upgrades to a paid version I get upgraded with it That s usually part of the deal for trying new apps and promoting it to other people that s how you grow your customer base It s also overpriced I used the app with Sourceforge s open source Password Safe Someone that created an app to work directly with Password Safe is selling their app for half the price of strongbox Update I got a response from the Developer for my review I thought I would post it for you and then add some clarification to my review I did not change any of my comments above From Developer Hi Howzatar I m a little shocked at the callousness of this review and I m not sure really how to respond here You say you ve been using the app for the last couple of years obviously it s been of some use to you When I moved the app to a one time freemium pricing model at 5 99 basically the price of a cup of coffee you then decide to give it a one star review I hope that whatever work you do people value your labour more than you have mine Mark Response Actually I don t find my response callous I find the developer s way of handling the change to be insensitive to the current customers When I purchased the app initially regardless of whether it was free or at some cost I purchased the app with its current features For the developer to take away features and then require you to pay again is where I have the problem I did not accept the app as a subscription If it were a subscription then I understand there would be a charge for continuing use with the app Large software developers often come out with new versions all the time I understand there is a charge to upgrade but they don t take away features that were already provided If they do they phase out the old software but it s still usable in its current form and is maintained for a period of time In this case there wasn t any warning that the update would take away functionality no email no phone call no communication of any sort This is the deeper concern to me because it basically says that any app developer can basically take an app away at any time and charge you again for the app to get the features back I have no problem with a developer making an app a paid app but that should apply to your new customers not your current ones Or if you want to make it a paid app and need additional reviews kindly contact your current customers and ask them to provide a review I would have been happy to provide a great positive review for the app to boost the positive sides of the app Complaining to me that only 5 99 is only the price of a cup of coffee doesn t apply to me I don t drink coffee as I think it s a waste of Further as a penny pincher 5 99 in my mind is expensive for a cup of coffee Basically my feeling about the price for this app is thus I already have a password program This app was just using that pre built database of passwords and putting it in a usable form app form for which there are already other apps out there that can do that I understand it s a marketing game to decide how much to charge for an app high price sells to few people low price sells to lots of people In the end where is the right price point I think 5 99 is too high compared to others I greatly appreciate the labors of another and value them However I m not willing to pay the price when I see the labor as not valuable for my use That s how people decide to purchase an app or not In my case 5 99 is not Disappointed time to find another app Howzatar
The latest version of this app has made it useless No Touch ID to open and can no longer write entries Searching for an alternative to gorilla password for iPhone This app is not it Update made app useless Ax Zeronine
Previously version was perfect Dropbox integration is superb Touch ID makes it a breeze to use now forced to upgrade to have it Thank you strongbox Aug17 I never thought an app creator can downgrade to force existing users to buy an upgrade Usually new features and improvements would be charged for existing users and not features they previously had Super app But unhappy with downgrade nummy333

This app is well made and sturdy It can be a little bit of a hassle typing in the password but thats to be expected It would be nice to see alternative ways in the future to login Im grateful this was made Great Application

Overall its a nice utility It would be nice if there were some other cloud provider options are other ways to use extensions within iOS to import safes Overall it does what it says and touch ID is a great option Good for using password safe

Im a bit of a security geek privately and profesionally including the development of of my own specialized security software Heres why I use Strongbox for my personal needs 1 Its simple This is enormously important The vast vast majority of password compromise is rooted in human error An effective password tool for personal use must be simple enough for the least savvy members of a password sharing group like spouses to commit to use consistently 2 Its easy to organize Not everyone thinks about grouping of logins in the same way Strongboxs blank slate simplicista allows folder groupings of passwords to match my mental model rather than the app developer This contributes then to the apps simplicity ease of use and therefore to User compliance 3 My password data is not captive The export feature allows me the Comfort of knowing that a my passwords are securely accessible to me even if my device is liststolendestroyed from any IOS device I can install the app on b Im not reliant on a Strongbox server to gain access to my password file I can place a copy of the Strongbox data on File with my attorney to simplify data inheritence in the event of my death or incapacity 4 The notes field This allows me to store types of sensitive information that dont fit a typical login type model For example i keep my passport information in the notes field of an entry along with information for dealing with list passports For each credit card i keep the Customer Service phone and the loststolen reporting phone numbers 5 Data segmentation Among the rare and valuable features of Strongbox is its use of multiple safes This provides all sorts of wonderful flexibilities I can keep my passwords separate from my wifes but still have y devices act as a backup to hers I can separate my business and personal passwords I can have a separate safe per client that i can easily delete when Im done with my work I can send client specific secure data to a colleague easily and completely without accidentally compromising other passwordssecure data 6 Strongbox is subscriptionfree I dont like ongoing payments and i particularly dont like being reliant on a serverservice from a small Company that may not be around next year I can store MY data securely WHERE WHEN AND HOW I want Is Strongbox perfect Probably not There are a few features Id like to see added But it is the only app Ive seen in 6 years of looking that is good enough for me to commit my time to setting up and using Mike Chambers Does what it says Simple effective password storage

This app is a life saver for me because all my passwords are saved in password safe file and this is thx only free app in App Store which can bs used to open those files Support for Password Safe files is dwindling but this app helped me continue using my existing password safe file So thanks to the developer Really appreciate it Cheers A lifesaver app for Password Safe users
