Each Friday, Weekend Companion delivers a little hand-picked bundle of substantial and pleasant pieces of writing from the Awl for your weekend enjoyment. Here`s what you missed during the rigors of the week. The Awl is ...
Why do you hate scrollbars I really hate having no idea how long an article is or how far through an article I am Any standard iOS web view or scroll view includes scrollbars so as far as I can figure youre willfully suppressing them Why Why do you hate progress and progress indicators and fun and puppies Seriously its just bad user interface design           Seriously SCROLLBARS
They got it right with this one The writing is solid and interesting and the app makes me forget its an app and I just read                 Great writing great reading app
Love the idea and the contentthis and Marcos The Magazine are my most read magazines on iPhoneiPad But the UI has some problems 1 As mentioned the scrolling is clunky and there is no visual feedback via scrollbars to know how long the article is and how much progress Im making through it as a reader These issues really bug me 2 There doesnt seem to be a way to delete downloaded issuesIve looked for edit mode archive buttons and even tried swiping leftright on various screens to no avail So content 45 stars UI thoughtfulness 1 star For now           Im a subscriber but improvements needed
The Awl is as difficult to stop reading as the moon is a harsh mistress A harsh lethal soulcrushing mistress So if you hate the moon and you love to ingest culture through your eyeballs this is a New Yorky app for you                 Caution habitforming
The app keeps crashing indiscriminately whenever I try to A download the current issue B just see what back issues there are C read anything Im on an iPad mini This really shouldnt be happening especially since I just paid nonrefundable for a subscription I love The Awl and Im ok with just straight up supporting you guys with my money seriously I love your work but this is kind of annoying I really just want to read the issue        Adore The Awl cant read the magazine
Good writing Good typography Nice to see a tablet magazine that does not take forever to download and does not grab huge chunks of my iPads storage Needs better layout Looks too much like a basic word processing file with a few small pics dropped in Needs better navigation like scroll bars Needs table of contents has a side panel slider but it contained no text As it is now does not go beyond what could be done with a standard ePUB so why not just distribute as an ePUB This needs to do more to justify existence PS Thanks for quick response to my comment about crashing Five stars for good product support           A Good Start
I love the writing in each issue and look forward to it every Friday The app has improved with each release but the scroll bars disappear sometimes and then theres no way to tell how far into the article you are           Content great Presentation awful
Nobody thought that The Awl would gather anything besides an enthralling collection to peruse but can we please talk about how pretty it is Its the most magaziney my device has felt since ever                 Also design
I thought the new update would fit the crashing issue on my third generation iPad running iOS 8 but no such luck I like reading on my iPad NOT my iPhone Why cant they fix the issue for the iPad DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY SUBSCRIBING TO THIS MAGAZINE The same thing goes for other magazine apps from this developer 29th Street Publishing Seriously dont waste your money     Yes it has been better before the iOS update to 8
I read the Awl pretty obsessively so Ive read much of the content before But I read the Awl pretty obsessively so Im also happy to finally have a way to offer my financial support The app itself is minimalist and lovely and compulsively readable                 A lovely little jewel
The App which is used for downloading the Weekend Companion is constantly crashing It will never download the issue until about the 10th try I am now trying to cancel my subscription to Weekend Companion     The Awl is great but this App is not good at all
Like many others I really like the writing in this app But scrolling through an article is very frustrating I often find myself swiping to the next article rather than going forward in the current article It must happen about 50 times each week The lack of multitasking doesnt bother me very much as I usually finish an article before I move on to another app If they could fix some of the interface issues such as the scrolling I would love this app and make it my alltime favorite app Please fix           Great themed content but man is it hard to read
The content is very good The best writing from The Awl collected for your enjoyment However its hard to actually enjoy it On the iPhone the scrolling is sticky That is to say when you scroll up or down the page doesnt move with your finger right away Instead it needs an extra push to start moving This is so at odds with the human interface with every other app you read with and us such an annoyance that it breaks the reading flow for me For an app that is about reading its a terrible flaw for me As such Ill keep watching The Awl through my browser and sending longerform articles to Instapaper when I want to read them later In the meantime Ill keep thus app on my phone and see if updates improve the interface Id love to subscribe and support good long form reading but the app needs to make the reading experience pleasant First update out and no smooth scrolling in reading I want to like this app and all it needs is a standard iOS UI feature           Good content one interface problem
Great writers great reads                 This is wonderful
If the writing is great I dont care how much more I have to read Scroll bars can be a distraction                 Scroll bars
