The Chronicle of Higher Education is the leading source of news and commentary about the events, people, and issues shaping higher education in the United States and around the world. Now The Chronicle`s first-rate journalism ...
The display is great and I love not having to get the paper copy or read it on a desktop It is fast and easy to get new issues and download old ones Very useful My biggest complaint is that you are not able to share or at least I cant find that feature Most of my colleagues and friends are on twitter and there is no way that I can see to share articles Would love to be able to share relevant articles with coworkers           Great for reading but
Pleasant reading experience and downloads work fine but the navigation isnt intuitive I get stuck in an article and cant find any way to go back to the front page home screen after Im done reading It would be nice to be able to copy and paste from the articles A way to export metadata for articles to citation software or something like Evernote would also make this a better tool        Difficult to navigate
Completely dysfunctional now The iOS upgrade didnt help Needs a major fix UPDATED The recent update has returned functionality in the app              No longer iOS 8 disaster Updated
I subscribed so I could read this on my iPad but have had NO luck getting it to work I wish I had read the reviews     Very Buggy
It looks like it has possibilities but the current version has a glitch I tried to sign in with my account which does not have an current subscription attached Even though I have a Chronicle account the apps says that it cannot display premium content because I dont have a subscription However now the News stand screen does not work I continually get communication errors instead I cant even go back and purchase a subscription or a single issue Looks like I will continue reading the print version that is delivered at the office        Buggy
Probably one of the best apps for reading content that I have experienced I have a subscription to the Chronicle through my University                 Excellent Content App
Like other reviewers Im unable to read the magazine if not connected to wifi This is highly annoying inconvenient I have a wifi only device and often travel so no reading on planes or as a passenger in a car Please fix this issue Otherwise theres no reason for me to keep this subscription     App Crashes When Not Connected to Internet
Dont tell me this app is Free Only for me to download open and see BUY and SIGN IN on every single link What a crock and FALSE advertising Thank goodness this was free It deserves ZERO stars     What a waste
Since my upgrade to iOS 8 this app will not work at all As soon as I try to download an edition the program crashes If I try to download the edition again after rebooting from a cold start the program crashes If I uninstall the program and then reinstall it it crashes This just started on iOS 8 on my second generation iPad Do not purchase this app until they report that it has been fixed     Warning will not run on iOS 8
Just when Im about to leave for three weeks this happens When I click on an issue to download this error message displays Cannot install item Please restart the app and download your purchase again From there it crashes     An epic Chronicle failure
The update changes the interface and puts it in the newsstand but doesnt improve performance or bugs I have an iPad subscription but it continually asks me to sign in as a subscriber to the print edition Its frustrating It takes forever to download issues and the interface is clunky and unresponsive        No improvement
I find this iPad app for the Chronicle to work just fine on both an iPad 1 and an iPad 4 It is easy to navigate and works like I would expect It is on par with other iPad apps I have used for reading newspapers and magazines including the New York Times and Consumer Reports While you cannot resize the text it is very similar in size to what you would get in a print version and while my vision is not great like a book I hold it a little closer if the text is too small for my old eyes If you have not completely downloaded an issue of course it wont be viewable without an Internet connection via wifi So in that regard I just download things I want read before I leave wifi access I do that with Kindle books So whats new about that Reviewers who complain that they cant read the Chronicle when no wifi might also complain that their cars dont run when they run out of fuel That it not a limitation of the app                 Works just fine on iPad better than web browser
Will not allow subscription purchase please fix           Issues with inapp purchase
As a previous reviewer said the current version is not usable This is too bad as Ive been reading The Chronicle through the iPad app for most of a year When it works its is good It has always been a little buggy but until now it has been usable I hope theyll correct the problem soon     Buggy
Ive downloaded the app several times and continue to experience crashing of the app unless Im online As a subscriber I resent this Its often the case that I am MOST likely to read chronicle articles when Im offline This is so troublesome that if not corrected soon I will terminate my subscription This is a recent issue that apple and the chronicle publishers need to resolve Until recently I regularly read the Chronicle using the app on my ipad     Chronicle app crashes
Now in the Newsstand and still not compatible with the Retina display I dont care about images either I find the quality of the text distracting Saying that theyre phoning this in would be kind last version nothing fixed Only some articles render clearly on the new iPad and Id expect to have better bookmarking highlighting and note taking functionality in app like this The interface can be haphazard and buggy as well All in all this application appears to be nothing more than a novelty for them that has not been taken seriously Turn back now     The content is there but
Would be nice to be able to save articles for future readingrereading and would be nice to be able to email a story or a link to the online version from within the app           Pretty good but lacking a feature
Does not work at all issues not retrievable I guess I will do my job really badly now because I will have missed all the vitally important things that have happened in Higher Education in the time it takes for them to fix it     Totally fuxxored
This app appears to have a bug that makes the pages so sensitive to touch I cant stay on the page I want to read I scroll but it responds by swiping Pretty frustrating        Disappointed
As the title says the app worked under iOS7 but no longer works under 8 App crashes any time I try to download an issue     Magazine is excellent App doesnt work with iOS8
Might work fine for newer ipad models but on an older machine the app crashes almost as soon as you start to view a new issue After the crash any content you downloaded is gone and you cannot download new content without reinstalling the app     Crashes repeatedly under iOS 8
This app is far too buggy It crashes frequently while articles are being readespecially when the pages are enlarged for easier reading     TOO MANY CRASHES
Just started using iPad very disappointed about image quality of downloaded Chronicle Maybe a fix is needed to be compatible with the retina display of the new iPad        Poor image quality
I cant read a single issue after the update Very unhappy with the app Where are the developers and why arent more people complaining     Terrible
Content this app works just like the Chronicle website or any other newspaper website for that matter if you are a subscriber you can log in and get all the premium content you get on the website or in hard copy If youre not a subscriber you get limited content Interface not very intuitive or powerful but workable           Good Enough But Could Be Better
It usually recognizes my college subscription but the downloads take ages and sometimes quit for no obvious reason I came over to write this review while I waited Faster to use the website though I find the app more pleasant to read Very mixed experience        Slow and buggy downloads
Font size fix     Need option to increase FONT SIZE
App simply closes or goes to the next story     Cant finish a single story
The app usually works well for me though the page turning is a little unintuitive Biggest problem App crashes on startup if no wifi so useless on airplanes           Crashes with no wifi
If one set out to sabotage an excellent publication by punishing its paid subscribers they would design this app     Fails to Authenticate Paid Subscription
I subscribed to the Chronicle to be able to access the premium content that I was attracted to in their email newsletters Unfortunately I cannot find any disclosure anywhere that tells you that you will not get that with an iPad application I currently have no ability to sign in to the Chronicle iPad application even though there is a sign in icon in the application I cannot find any way to cancel the automatically renewing subscription This may just be poor technology but it is wrong nevertheless It is unethical to prevent someone from stopping a renewal I have spoken with customer service amazing they actually do have someone you can talk with but was unable to solve the connection problem I have written to two addresses tonight to work on stopping the automatic renewal My advice do not subscribe through iTunes Subscribe directly with the Chronicle It wont be as pretty as the iPad application but you will be able to solve problems     Extremely Disappointed my advice do not subscribe through iTunes
Works ok on 2nd gen Ipad Having to renown load issues after the last update is a real pita        Works ok
Terrible App DO NOT BUY FOR ANY REASON Very buggy but Apple will not refund your money but pass you off to the Chronicle and they will not refund your money but pass you back to Apple who of course are no help They will however auto renew your subscription whether or not you want them to then they will bill you another fifty bucks plus tax and the whole process repeats itself WORST APP EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD     The Chronicle of Higher Education
The app froze when I tried to download the most recent issue of the Review        Frozen
Dealing with this app is absolute INSANITY Access issues abound I can copy my user idea and current password DIRECTLY from my profile page on your website and STILL the app insists there is an issue Also there is NO place I can find on your website where I can update my email address And worst of all whenever I try to access an article from a link in your newsletters I am informed that such articles are ONLY accessible to individuals who have subscriptions WHICH I HAVE I sure hope when this one runs out it is not automatically renewed because I am deleting the app from my iPad Might as well cant access issues anyway     INSANITY
The old version worked well Authentication on the new version does not work I would not download the update     New version
please fix it this app is not fit into retina display     letters are broken for iPad 3rd
I concur with the other posts It keeps crashing and asking to restart the app and download purchases     OS8 issue
Ipad 2 update does not load     The update will not open
Pleasant reading experience but the app fails because theres no way to share content not by email social media text Isnt sharing the whole point of the web     Cant share content
Just paid 299 for current issue and the app crashes after I download it How can I get a refund     Crashes
Lack of both Retina and Newsstand support are deal breakers enough but the app itself has a kind of DeVry feel to it
Still logs me out after nearly every close Beautiful app with good functionality              Better after update but
This update represents an improvement because it is now in Newsstand I also find it easier to navigate Unfortunately there is absolutely no integration with social media so one cannot share any articles Thats pretty odd considering the Chronicle uses social media Update theres also no way to resize the text that one is reading thus losing one of the key benefits of ereaders Another quirk the large notice on the library page that one should sign in if one is a subscriber does not go away after one signs in And a word of warning this update kills all old issues maybe because of the switch to Newsstand Be prepared to download what you need again BTW Im running this on a first gen iPad with iOS 511           Better
This app is awful to the point of being useless The Chronicle should withdraw it and hire a highquality app developer to create one that works My advice to iPad users is to send the regular web page to your home screen Thats much better than this fraud upon the public One star only because I cant enter no stars or negative stars     Terrible App
I love The Chronicle and to make it available on the iPad to a tech geek like me is great I am disappointed that it has not yet been updated for retina display or made available in newsstand if those 2 request were met I would give it 5 stars           Good but could be better
Would like to see this be iphone compatible           Make it iphone compatible
Once I got used to swiping up or down to turn pages and left or right to view articles I found the system ver useful The app returns me right to where I left off                 Functional and attractive
I still cant get it to work This app works worse than Congress     Dont subscribed
I have full access tomthe Chron via my university and can access the website via VPN but the app does not recognize this so it is either subscribe or use the web        No VPN access
