Thesys is an extremely powerful and intuitive MIDI stepsequencer app, giving you control over just about all aspects of your favorite MIDI devices. Use Thesys to create varied and organic bass lines, screaming leads, pulsating ...
This is still one of the best midi sequencers in terms of features but it needs an update so it integrates better with live performances MIDI clocking exists but does not play nice with Ableton Link so unless all apps are using MIDI clocking Thesys has to be piped into the mix the old fashioned way SugarBytes has been all over Ableton Link with their other apps it s time to give Thesys some of that goodness Also needs a new idea with the user interface As mentioned in other reviews controls are itsy bitsy even on a 12 iPad Pro With a little TLC this is a five star app that will be a main work horse in mobile music for a long time             Still great but it s time for an update Awinde05
Still digging into this two weeks after purchase A deep and fun app The presets lend themselves to tweaking and exploring I wouldn t mind a UI update                     Great sequencer arpeggiator Peter OM
Nice that it has independent sequences for note velocity and gate I can t think of any others that do that Would be great if the pattern shift buttons were a bit bigger and other interface elements were a little more finger friendly Otherwise a pretty tight sequencer with a ton of options built in                 Powerful sequencer telepunken
Sugar Bytes really put something special together here With full MIDI control this thing is user friendly and monstrously scary at the same time A unique and complex yet easy to use performance arpeggio pattern sequencer to the max                     Absolutely astounding djAlpad
The good This sequencer is over the top It is so much fun to listen to and VERY powerful The bad The UI is a bit fiddly and not as iOS friendly as one might expect It could be a pro performance app if the controls weren t like that even with zoom it is not so good It will be amazing on the iPad Pro I think                 Fantastic mostly ZenLizard
The apps this company makes are way removed from their desktop quality When recording a MIDI sequence into Auria the sync is off to top it off the pattern change does not work at all when recording making it impossible to record more than one pattern in a take so if you need to alternate your pattern every four bars it is a mess     Absolute garbage 7Z7
How can the developer claim this to be the ultimate sequencer when you can only play ONE track pattern at a time How are we supposed to use this live if you cant have different patterns running simultaneously I guess this would be an ok tool for step sequencing ideas into a DAW but for live berlin school style improvising of different synths this is pretty much useless Refund time     Overhyped Coolycoolll
I thought long and hard about whether to try out Thesys Eventually my curiosity got the best of me On the plus side it has a TON of features but excels at monophonic basslines and leads There is a chord feature that is pretty neat but primarily it is monophonic The best feature is probably that it has a built in synth engine within the app And the sounds aren t half bad You can audition them or even export them through AB etc as a final product But the interface is just largely awful This is obviously a VST port from PC with little re imagination done as to how it would control on an iPad This is true of all the SugarBytes apps So the actual part of the screen the contains which notes play in your sequence probably uses 20 of the screen space You can double that with a magnifier but it is clumsy and akward Also I m not sure the app either does Open In with MIDI files nor could I find that it exports raw MIDI data I could be wrong on the latter point but those are features that would have been nice for a premium app such as this one Overall it s intriguing but still a bit flawed                 Powerful sequencer in need of some interface tweaks HouseOfHomuth
This is probably the worst of the bunch It works on my iPad but barely functions with any speed of use or success at all exceedingly poor design at work here The interface is been taken from the original desktop version which was cursor based therefore it has none of the benefits of touch interface present It seems only handle one channel at a time Weak The use of bars to set the pitch for the chords and Notes is horrible The clumsy zoom and the tiny widely spread controls summon the dreadful preset content with no effort thus ruining your work Avoid     Awful avoid Old shopper
Thanks for the update It works now without any hint of lag I ve updated my review to 4 stars from 1 star Once I ve spent some time with it I ll decide if it s worth that last star Now whatever you did apply that to turnado and you ll have earned my confidence back enough for me to buy Effectrix                 Dear Sugarbytes Buddhas Palm
Thanks for the update                     Functioning again after latest update iPad Air Ericlmercer
Everything seems to be back in working order This is a really great app I really hope that Sugar Bytes checks every update before they release Between them and Apple the last update should have never made it to the public That being said their apps are really amazing I also own WOW and I have played with Turnado They are very unique and very useable just as Thesys is                 Much better pendlesmythe
The blank screen bug has been fixed The UI still really needs to be properly designed for the ipad hence my 3 star rating but I m not going to hold my breath for that one             Fixed Thank you WendellRM
See title White screen after update Nice testing before release     Pretty much useless Whitescreen Load of Bollox
Even after the update on 01 29 this still loads as an all white screen for me on ipad air     Just a white screen Ezelkow1
The new update is broken Nothing but a white screen please fix     Mr Duderanch
There s only a white screen now please fix it     White screen just as a user above Neb Hetep
This app is ludicrously powerful I have never seen such an assortment of tools for midi in one app Just mesmerized by the possibilities of what I can do here Just need the time of explore it further Also the integrated synth engine is a nice little noisemaker in its own right Now to find the time to delve in it                     Ok I ll need a weekend by myself with this C3l3$t1n0
I really like how i can t instantly start using an app in my workflow It s really easy to use but is easy to make complex That s what artists like myself want Easy fun and without limits as to where we can take stuff I WANT CYCLOP AND CONSEQUENCE PLEASE I love these programs And on ipad with multitouch instead of a mouse we get soooo much control                     Instantly usable CoopMusic247
This app is nuts Extensive preset library nice randomization parameters and a mind boggling assortment of controls We re lucky this one got ported to the iPad                     Deep and mysterious Zynga prole
Yes people that paid attention in class in does exactly what I want IOS wise fickle finger fun aplenty                     Sirantsalot Beef'nbones
This app is ridiculously awesome Been waiting a long time for something i can use while on the go Can t give enough praise for it I ve bought many an iOS app most of which I stop using after tinkering with them for a few weeks This one I predict will be my most often used Music iOS app                     Solid Solid d_rod
Wonderful app with many options to slice dice arrange and permutate your sequences patterns Audiobus MIDI integration make this another must have app for my sequencing pattern toolbox                     Impressive Kikoblu
I have been wanting a sequencer that I could step away from the computer with There are some excellent contenders but this is by far the best I am saying this after tinkering around for an hour but I am amazed                     Best Sequencer Yet DWLaGrone
This is definitively the most encompassing and powerful stepsequencer you ll find on the AppStore But just as their other Mac PC port of Turnado the interface didn t go through any design changes for the iPad version You gonna need to use that double tap to zoom function for sure and as with Turnado it will constantly keep zooming in when you do not want to use it And turning it off is not really an option with this one since everything is really tiny So a slider or some other solution that determines how fast slow you need to double tap is definitely needed here to get rid of this big design miss frustration generator Also the PC buttons need a toggle mode option 5 stars from me when that s taken care of                 Another great ish Sugar Bytes app ChrisE1G
This company is putting out AWESOME stuff for iPad thus far Now let me get to the questions I have instead of just gushing Is there a full operations manual The interface element that one can tweak are too small I hope there could be consideration for a zooming type of visual feedback when one tweaks a knob button whatever how exactly do you zoom given the up to 2x ability in the settings Well that s about all I could think of at the moment keep putting out the GREAT apps And now I am off to Mothership where I will remake the hit Shy Shy Sugarman by Jack s Project                 Really sweet Sugar Bytes angelo grover
Turnado and Thesys and beyond epic in my opinion The greatest thing about turnado is the fact that it can be used in more ways than the old world desktop version ever could by using the multitouch interface of the iPad They did it again with Thesys however I have not yet deciphered a way to fully take advantage of the multitouch interface in a huge way like Turnado in fact it is a little bit hard for me to use with my 5000 degree Viking fingers Nonetheless it is epic Perhaps if there was a clever way to add a couple X Y inputs like in kaossilator or figure for note entry and cc s for those of us with monster fingers But I am truely hooked to Thesys and for the past while now I have been utterly cracked out on Turnado Release Unique for iPad and I will become a zombie BTW what made me buy both apps without more than a minutes thought was the fact that sugar bytes support both audiobus and JACK iOS 5 and iOS 6 Thank you so much for supporting iOS 5 and JACK especially I use an iPad 2 with ios 5 1 1 and an iPad 3 with iOS 6 1 3 and I do not plan on updating either of them anytime soon If I am really compelled by ios 7 in the future I won t be updating my current iPads I will instead buy another iPad to run iOS 7 I will keep buying amazing apps like Thesys and Turnado in hopes that they are the most backward compatible Sugar bytes have gone far beyond the status quo in supporting devices and protocols virtual midi audiobus ect Seriously people buy Thesys and Turnado if you have any interest in serious heavy lifting music making I want to buy more and more make more omg you guys rock                 A storm be a comin I hope Obis11

This app really puts a new twist on how midi can be used on iOS While the port from the desktop plugin doesnt take full advantage of what the iPad can do you can still get lots of use out of it I especially like both the Audiobus and Jack support I did have some issues with some synth apps that didnt seem to play well with Thesys but that is par for the course and hopefully theyll be able to work this out in updates It will take some time to learn how to use all of the features of the app but even in the first few minutes of use I could see features that are very useful such as the ability to copy whole or parts of patterns The ability to access all of the cc messages is much more straight forward than in Genome Sequencer                 Good Start
Thanks for the update It works now without any hint of lag Ive updated my review to 4 stars from 1 star Once Ive spent some time with it Ill decide if its worth that last star Now whatever you did apply that to turnado and youll have earned my confidence back enough for me to buy Effectrix              Dear Sugarbytes

Please consider resizing the step shift buttons You might have to rearrange the layout slightly but even with full zoom it is very difficult to select the little arrows inside this impossibly small multifunction button Also because of its proximity the paste button gets accidently pressed sometimes which ruins the sequence Maybe a stylus is needed it is not fingerfriendly Also I have trouble with the interface sliding around when trying to set pitches etc while zoomed Its a shame because its a great sequencer otherwise I will keep using it but I dread the experience of the interface              Powerful sequencer
