Topo Maps

This is a great app I use it for backpacking Have on both an iPhone and iPad Also use it to plan out trips                 Great App

To those who say that the map data is a old you have to understand that this app uses USGS data maps and is only as current as those maps it is a fantastic app There is an easy workaround for maps that Havel data once you open the topple map it will let you convert that map to satellite based terrain or Google maps orOpenStreetMap So like anyone ought to before you head into the backcountry you should always check your maps against current data this app gives you all the tools to do just that The ability to stitch maps together is a great asset No more do you get to the edge of one map and have to find your location on the next one just stitch the next map to your map and the data flows seamlessly Download times on WiFi are only a few seconds per map It will even shade the maps which turns them into a visual terrain identifying tool Im taking this tool into a nine day trip in the Allagash in Maine in September I will report more on how well it works afterwards Get this app learn to use it you will not be disappointed                 Phenomenal

I live in Hawaii and purchased this to help orient myself to the often bewildering views with all the mountain valleys I dont use it for offtrail hiking but when Im trying to figure out what I can see from my elevation or how far something is and its azimuth this is perfect Each time I open it I discover something new about the apps features and am glad I have this in my suite of maps                 Great for Hawaii

Very reliable even with limited or no connection Just be sure to download the maps before heading out The locator function works well even with almost no signal Ive been using this app for a year with absolutely zero complaints Love switching between this and Google Maps to compare Topo with birds eye view but rely mostly on Topo once I get out into the forest and hills Works great for planning hunting trips I spent weeks studying geography to predict deer movement then put that knowledge to work when setting up stands and it all worked out exactly as planned Buying custom topo maps would cost more than this app and take up more space As long as your battery lasts even if in airplane mode to save it longer this app will serve as your map                 Hunting hiking camping fishing

I use this app every time I head out backpacking Ive tried other topo apps more expensive than this one but this one works best for me Big fan                 This app is essential for backpacking

Great app if you are an outdoor enthusiast I used this app consistent as a GPS and map for my through hike of the john Muir trail Maps have to be downloaded while you have an Internet connection but the GPS on my phone worked well in areas that I had no cell service This app has gotten me out of a few situations where I was on the wrong trail I have also found many great off trail hidden gems while backpacking Love the app                 Great GPS

Please add the western Aleutians or dont claim to Cover all of Alaska I purchased this app for adak and now its useless to me        No western Aleutians

This app has replaced my Garmin topo maps Exactly like the paper maps only better because you can take them everywhere without the hassle of paper maps                 Excellent map app

Not sure why there are negative reviews for this App There shouldnt be If you actually know how to read a Topo then this is prefect If you need a babysitter then go find one I use this App for walkin hunting deep in the Ozarks and find it easier to use than my GPS An excellent feature about this App is the it will work when you do NOT have phone service unlike google                 Great App All Around

This is honestly one of my favorite apps and rightly earns a place on my home screen Its truly indispensable I cycled over 1000 miles around Washington state and 1500 miles down the Pacific coast back in 2009 and the app helped guide me every step of the way With my solar charger theres almost nothing I cant do with this app and features are constantly being updated as well Definitely worth the money                 An indispensable app

Believe it or not this is my very first app review despite being a long time iPhone user This app is so useful I felt I had to leave a comment I am a local hiker and weekend car camper who always likes to see the lay of the land using USGS Quads I love the resolution and feel of the old paper topo maps and this app captures it perfectly Not only can you view the quads you can view them in different orientations set and store waypoints adjust the relief appearance see radius scales and more This app is a dream in the field Im also a geologist so I use this app on the job too Awesome app                 Fantastic app

Bought this to use while offroading and after first use Im thoroughly impressed Would only add route tracking to increase to 5 stars Great res on topos easy to download maps For those upset about old maps they are USGS TOPO maps and many are old Good maps even if they are old              Great App

Ive downloaded several maps and none are newer than 40 years old The map for Mount Rushmore area is from 1971     Extremely old maps

Whether Im hiking in the Ozarks or in the deserts and canyons in Utah I rely on this App to keep me on the trail I understand that USGS Topos vary in their update ages but I depend on the coordinates and contours more than anything else and those dont change much if at all                 Keeps me from wandering

Review for 113 3 stars Please fix all the scrolling on 6 Panning the map now glitches and jumps to random points on the map This problem did not exist in 112 I contacted Phil and he is working on a fix iOS8 screwed things up Review for 112 5 stars Talk about a simple and easy to use app Just make sure your device has a lot of space if you want to load up a lot of topo maps If you have a 16 gig iSomething you wont be able to load up a lot of maps unless you pull down the low res maps and who wants to do that I pulled down most of NY state and parts of 2 other states and Im already eating 45 gigs as of this review You do have the option to delete or downgrade maps Im not a fan that I cant launch or specify that I want to launch Google Maps if I have it but its not a show stopper Im limited to Apple maps and a few others A future where I can chose Google Maps would make this app perfect I can overlook some of the internal pages that feature early 90s UI buttons and such because the main interface is clean and looks good                 Simple UI and easy to understand

Ive used this app for a number of years The map quads are real usgs maps and best of all is the stitching that adjoins the quads into a multi quad view Im a rock hound and geologist and spend a lot of time in Nevada You can see yourself while driving along the dirt roads and this feature is priceless for finding overgrown roads that would otherwise blend into the surroundings The only drawback Ive found is the lack of private property delineation                 Nearly perfect

I use this app all winter when Im hiking in the white mountains with no cell reception I hike about 160 miles per season in the whites and this app has coverage for most of the trails up there                 Love the app

This app is sooo outdated its ridiculous The quad for my neighborhood is from 1967 I wish I could give you negative stars you deserve 3     Very poor APP

I have used this app more times than I can count to plan out and explore potential hikes I have used it on hikes to bushwhack on a heading I have used it to get an idea of exactly what kind of terrain I was in For 8 bucks this app is so worth having to me I recall it being cheaper when I bought it but that could just be my age working against me I have planned out routes and exported the KML I have imported KML for example all the parking and shelter locations along the AT I am sure other apps do this and some apps might have more upto date versions of the topo maps themselves but this does the job just nicely                 My Number One Map App

The maps do not have enough details but that is not problem with the app itself Otherwise it works well and is able to pinpoint location quickly even if there is no network access in the area           Pretty good for the price

This app is a must for the hunter camper hiker etc If you are an outdoorsmanwoman Topo Maps ties in the ability to look at the topo for an area plot your GPS coordinates and waypoints all without going back and forth between other programs Worth every penny hint read the instructional guide very helpful to navigate the program as there are a ton of useful tips and info                 Best yet

I think its a good app The fact that the maps are free if you will are good The biggest issue I have is the roads arent marked If you bought a map from your local store with a destination in mind and seen the roads arent labeled wouldnt it defeat the whole purpose           Roads

I just returned from a backpacking trip and used this app to assist with navigation and trail finding The ability to download the topo maps for free from within the app is huge The GPS function is great and works in airplane mode We needed 4 maps for this trip and fortunately adjacent maps can be stitched together Sometimes some of the printing from the margin will still be visible when maps are stitched but that is a relatively minor complaint Ignore the reviews that complain about the old maps The reason for using the 1970s maps is the greater detail and more trails as explained thoroughly in the app details and on the website The complaints are mostly from people that didnt read the documentation and probably dont know how to use topo maps anyway This app is highly recommended                 Excellent app for hikers and backpackers

I love all of the features of this app especially the high res map downloads for offline use waypoints and distance functions Definitely worth the purchase I think a few minor improvements would go a long way for this app For example Connect multiple waypoints to form a path or trail Group waypoints and show them as layers Great app so far really anxious to see these improvements eventually              Extremely Useful

I use this on my iPod Touch instead of hauling around paper topos It is simple and easy to use The Mosaic feature which lets you create a seamless mosaic of contiguous topos is a particularly sweet feature Highly recommended                 Great for offline use

I purchased the app as a backpacker hiker companion thinking it would replace the defunct Accuterra app This app downloads maps very quickly but they are very old lack solid trail detail and are hard to use If you are backcountry hiker or camper dont waste your money There is no trail hike trek recording of where you have been The search feature is confusing and at times does not work The location button often prevents moving around a map area to explore an area due to wanting to locate you The fix is to repetitively turn off location services but what a pain Overall very disappointed with general operation as well as map quality will be dumping app     Old Mapsnot good for hikers

This app is awesome however I would love to see more maps added such as historic topos and more USGS maps                 Love this app

Ive found some dirt roads missing One is the very road I live on in Idaho It should be there unless this is a very old map Seems like a pretty good app but I dont totally trust it advise to use with caution           Some missing roads

This is hands down the most helpful app in my phone Having the ability to use maps even when there is no cell connection is a lifesaver Works anywhere I am as long as I downloaded the maps before I left Only recommendation would be the ability to track your path Though that could potentially destroy battery life                 Best App Ever

Ive been using this app since 2009 and it has consistently been my goto for reference maps of areas that I hike andor fly fish in Its been with me thru Colorado Arizona and now Arkansas The ease of use and general features of the app are perfect for me when Im the back country especially since you can download the area youre in before you go and not worry about cell signal only battery life                 My goto Topo App

I bought this because it is suppose to be TOPO but it is really bad not like any Topo I own Just use google its free If you use TOPO why would I want to enter an address no you enter your God cords duh Horrible app want my money back     No Topo really old style map

Im disappointed with TOPO It lacks a lot of common trails or I can find them There is no Bandera Mt or Little Si           Missing Trails

This app is very simple and extremely useful Easy offline access to topo maps as long as you remember to grab the ones you need before you leave cell coverage UI could be a little slicker but the simplicity makes up for it              Simple and useful

The database is impressive but even at hi res the trails are impossible to make out Its nice to have access to so many maps but as a functional replacement for a physical map its useless I had better luck with PDF maps        Not worth the money

Ive used this app for backpacking in the Yosemite back country on and off trail for 4 years plus day hiking in many other areas and I have found it extremely useful The maps can be downloaded and used as part of the pretrip planning and icons placed on the intended route and for identifying features you might be interested in Since I am offtrail much of the time this was useful The maps are stored on the device so no WiFi or internet connection is needed The GPS feature also is quite useful and accurate as well The button has 2 settings If you tap it it will find you and lock to that location on the map but if you tap the button once it allows you to move the map around but the unique locator icon remains on your location If you tap it again it turns the GPS locator off Unfortunately one reviewer wasnt aware of this feature and gave the app a bad review It uses official US Geologic Survey 75 minute topographical maps with 40 foot contour intervals I mention this because one reviewer gave it a bad review because they werent topo maps Unfortunately the USGS doesnt update them anymore and while the terrain may not change much towns and roads do For the backpacking I do on and off trail this has never been a problem For me its an excellent and very useful app                 Extremely useful app

Topo Maps is so much more than simply a source for reference maps My personal thanks to developer Phil Endecott for providing a product that keeps our family safe during our frequent offroading trips in Southern Utah Once Topo Maps waypoints are preplanned for each route our dash mounted iPhone with GPS function then continuously pinpoints our progress on each map and any inadvertent deviations on the intended route As we travel adjoining maps then automatically open Especially helpful here where we have less populated and complex trail systems where it would be easy to get lost and possibly run out of fuel The most valuable tool we could have possibly brought along given my admittedly poor sense of direction Thanks again                 Unbelievable Value Free Maps
