This is a great app I have been using online website monitoring services for a long time Pingdom etc The problem is most are extremely expensive Vigil is great Very affordable and does the same thing that my online 15 mo site pinging service does The monitors are very easy to configure Lots of options including being able to defy text but should be on the page as opposed to simply pinging for uptime The app itself is very easy to use There s also a web based console from which to add monitors etc You can also add add conditional checks if you are really serious if X text NOT found then alert etc Dec 2016 update Upgraded from free to paid No complaints App sits nicely docked on the face of my Apple Watch Love it Only complaint is app Author s billing system A little buggy NOT great Author needs to fix But the app is fantastic despite and highly usable RECOMMENDED Saved my butt on more than one occasion                     Works like a charm Chris In The Desert

I signed up for the Vigil service because of the laudatory review on Tools Toys aka Shawn Blanc The Vigil monitoring alerting function is good but the real value is the extraordinary responsiveness of the support staff In the past three weeks I have had two apparent outages with my current hosting service and both times I had long detailed replies from Heirloom Vigil within a very few hours as I tried to troubleshoot One of them required consulting several days of server logs and I still heard back quickly Better yet it confirmed from the back end an issue that I had begun to suspect on the front end Very impressive Update after version 2 0 4 The new on screen metrics are nice especially the Uptime which I use as a one size fits all measure for my WP installs It also fixes a minor delay in downloading data for the entire prior display period Customer service response continues to be stellar 5 s worth                     Good app astonishing service Upstate Steve

Vigil is terrific at notifying you of outages of your website It s alert sensitives can be turned up to let you know the moment a ping comes back unsuccessful or to settings which notify you after varying numbers of failed attempts to contact the server The app shows you the ping response time broken out graphically by four components DNS Lookup Connection First Byte and Transfer for the past hour One way the app could improve is by allowing you to look back farther than an hour in time and allow you some sort of view to understand exactly when your site went down and came back online The features of the app work seamlessly the trial period is well worth it and the 9 99 year subscription price is far beneath competing services I like the convenience of alerts and status directly on my phone and the simplicity of the service overall                 Inexpensive Reliable longtime-user
