I really like this app Im a volunteer teacher in Mongolia and one of my biggest problems is learning all my students names many names can be used for boys and girls So with Attendance I have my class list with their pictures I like the simple design of Attendance And although Im pretty new to the iPhoneiPod interface I didnt have any trouble learning to navigate the different screens Another great plus is that David the developer is always quick to respond to emails In my book its a 5 star Looking forward to seeing what other features come in future versions                 Just what I needed

I teach up to 4 courses a semester in two different graduate schools and Attendance is a superb tool for keeping track of attendance in class sessions I also use the Note field for each student each class to record my assessment of class participation That takes only a few minutes and I do it right after class while the memory is fresh It does take some time to get used to the apps style of inputoutputediting etc If you work on it and watch the excellent videos on his website you will finally be rewarded with a powerful productivity tool Furthermore I had it for 3 years now and I am pleased with the added functionality and improvements which the developer continues to make Excellent valueworth even more I wish the app were more intuitive and some of the file handling involved fewer steps but it works quite well                 Extremely functional app invaluable for this task and more

I use this app daily Its unquestionably the app I get the most satisfaction from with the least effort Easy to set up easy to use generates reports in moments Easier than keeping attendance records on a spreadsheet especially with the function that makes the students marked present disappear from the list Simple and efficient                 Most useful app I have

I am loving this app It has been worth way more than the 499 already I love having pics of my students so handy and I love that I can write notes about individual students a particular class meeting or just general class notes It is very versatile and pretty easy to use when you learn the ropes There is a little bit of a learning curve with it but once you master it it is really a pretty powerful app                 Im organized now

I should have read the critical reviews first I was really hoping for an attendance app that would allow me to quickly scan photos and identify one of my 150 students by photo then name No luck To see the photo one has to click on the name My college webrosters include photos first next to the name Shouldnt this be a customizable feature I also wish there was less click through to get to the attendance taking feature In an app devoted entirely to Attendance with the ability to add brief notes and email students this process really should be simplified somewhat FYI for those stumbling through csv import you really do need that every field is separated by a comma with no spaces With most csv downloads except from Blackboard gradebooks its best to open the file with a text editor and screen the data Tip use findreplace to remove quotation marks spaces etc IIts a nice app for the most part the ability to move students around rather than have them strictly alphabetized is nice though Id love to be able to create groups within a course for groupwork oriented classes if the UI is reworked it would be so much better           Promising but still not there

I love this app Could not live without it Since I started using it 7 other teachers on my faculty now use it Makes communicating with the parents of my high school students so easy                 Best Attendance App

Attendance looked like it had everything I needed to keep attendance but once I got it I couldnt get it Turns out it is difficult to learn the simpliest tasks Instructions were of little help and the Attendance Support at iTunes was of little help too for a visual learner written instructions were just so many chicken stratches After a week of trying and experimenting Ive got it and it works like a breeze Thank you visual instructions would help in the future                 Attendance has a steep learning curve

I use this app to take attendance at my choir rehearsals Its easy fast and now there are no more papers to keep track of Love all the ways to backup and send the data out and the thoughtful nuances like autoscrolling in Take Also appreciate all the useful updates Plus youve given me yet another reason to love my iPad all the more                 Great app

The last 3 reviews I feel seem to be personal I find the information they are saying totally false The creator of this app writes back instantly The app is well thought out and has shown the ability to grow and develop over time iTunes should develop a policy against false and incorrect reviews These people need to be stopped Do not let the negative reviews influence your decision Write the developer He will respond and will help you                 Excellent

The developer consistently improves the versatility and functionality of this app Ive been teaching for 22 years at a university with a mandatory attendance policy and this app makes roll taking less painful My attendance records have never been more organized This app has the capabilities to do many things Just figure out what you need to do with attendance and learn the procedures to accomplish that goal This app has capabilities I have not even explored but then again I dont need to explore them It does the two or three things I need and it does them very well Ive got a few other people at our university using this app and they focus on some of the other capabilities If it does not do what you want email the developer and it probably will within a short time This app has made my life much easier                 Just keeps getting better and better

I just bought this app because a professor friend recommended but when I added a student then attempted to add pic from library I get a blank screen and cannot go back I exited the app and reopened but it sent me to the same blank screen I rebooted my iPhone 5S and attempted to add the pic from library to a student and it gave me the same blank screen           Add pic from library locks up

Trying to get information from the author web page is a nightmare as well He refers you to his blog for help but there is nothing helpful there except a history of the various releases He posts Flash videos where you can hardly see what you are supposed to no instructions for basic functions etc Users shouldnt need to spend so much time trying to figure out how to use it A waste of money and time     Utterly counter intuitive very disappointing

I have wasted a lot of time trying to get this app to work with what is provided on blackboard and on registrar lists and it is impossible Unless data is imported exactly the way this app is designed it is worthless and doesnt load at all It is worse than typing each item in yourself which Im sure it would ruin at some point losing that data too Do not buy this app unless you are looking for something to waste a Sunday afternoon on before you discover that there is no way to make it compatible with any standard export lists The app store needs to design some sort of return and refund mechanism The way it is now anyone can design an app and there doesnt seem to be a way to get a refund when you encounter junk like this one     Worthless and frustrating

Update After a term using Attendance I remain really pleased with this app Worth every penny Not a single problem all term The update adds Dropbox integration which will be perfect for me My only quibble is that there does not seem to be a way to archive old courses into a folder I can download or email the files but it would be nice to have archiving by folder This app is not meant as eye candy But would we want pretty for such a task and who has time when taking attendance to dwell on frills This app is five star for doing what it sets out to do Dev actively updates too OLD The other reviews thus far accurately represent Attendance I think its fantastic for a couple of reasons First with this app and ice breaker games I was able to master 60 student names and faces in two classes instead of the usual two weeks That aspect alone makes it well worth the money to me Second although I have always been organized as a teacher I would take roll on paper and then miss a late student and sonetimes I have been interrupted at the start of class and forgotten to take roll I use this app on my ipad right in class and I cannot imagine any easier way Some points using ipad and WINDOWS My college has online enrollment but the rolls do not export easily to a spreadsheet I copy and paste these online rolls into excel and then set up my GRADEBOOK using excel Then I save the student info from excel to csv I have to use a text editor like word pad to remove some funky remains from Excel this is to get the info into the app without typing it all I then use USB disk for ipad to transfer one txt file per class I open the file and copy and paste the roster into Attendance I have not yet found an easier way to get info right into the app but that may be because I am using an ipad and Windows products with my schools online enrollment software which is primitive The cut and paste worked PERFECTLY just as the app directions indicate My students photos can be pulled up on a web browser On the ipad I saved the photos into the native ipad Photos It was then a breeze to pull the photos for each student into the app I am able to take attendance with student name and photo along with NOTES I like to see the students majors for example and add it and whatever else for each student Fully customizable status present absent late or whatever else you want A wow function the ability to randomly cycle through students when asking for student questions and comments Also the ability to divide the students into groups instantly and randomly in the size you select I teach small writing classes that involve lots of group work and discussion This randomizer and grouping function is really helpful for my pedagogy Tip for ipad users If you use a personal email account as the ipad default you might want to add new email accounts to the ipad via general settings Then you can customize from which account the teacher email will be sent So I can send students email using my teacher email address even though I use a personal email account for the ipad default This needs to be done outside the app General Settings Mail calendars etc Would like to see About 3 or 4 more colors to use when customizing attendance status The reports would be more useful to me if I could customize what info to put in So far I havent found a way to do that Am I missing something Also when sending emails to students the default entry of the record could be more user friendly Any way to customize what the default individual email looks like The program is the best method Ive found for taking attendance No bugs or problems in this version that I have encountered It works smoothly and there is no question that it was an excellent investment I have not used the options to import from web server due to my particular schools web set up I also have not needed to transfer between devices so I cant comment on that function                 best method yet

Update bumped it up to 5 stars just because this developer is constantly updating his app Constantly This app does exactly what it says and what I need it to do My only complaint is that sometimes the buttons lack sensitivity These times are the only times with my iphone regardless of any app I find that pressing a button gets no response Sometimes I have to back out of a page and go back in or move the button higher or lower in the view so that it registers my touch Its a weird and annoying problem that Id love for the developers to address                 Good but the buttons sometimes lack sensitivity

At first I was thrown off by it but now it is the best thing to take role for my college classes I wish you could see a summary at the end of the spreadsheet view Again if your a college professor you must get this app I really look forward to new features                 Great app

I bought Attendance for 5 more than I spend on apps in genera then as soon as I started reading the FAQ discovered there was an Attendance 2 and Attendance 1 would no longer be supported within a year So 5 more dollars later I got Attendance 2and now I discover neither of them do what I need them to do Then I tried to contact the developer to ask some questions and found he had no contact information anyplace So 10 down the tubes The problem with this program as I see it is that it assumes you keep a separate CSV list of students for every single class which will then repeat in its entirety in future classes There is no master pool of students from which to pick a subset to add to a given session For instance as a dance teacher I have students who attend classes across many different levels But not all students attend all the same classes The only option I am given is to import my entire student list which is over 500 students or copy a student list from a different class only some of whom would be taking both classes What I need to be able to do is add a session and then be able to search a list of pastcurrent students and add them individually for that session Student A may attend class 1 2 and 3 Student B may attend only 1 and 2 I need a searchable list with all my students in it so when I am setting up Class 1 I can pull up my student list checkmark Student A and B and add them both to the class Then do the same when setting up Class 2 Then for Class 3 be able to just check next to Student A and add them since B isnt joining Class 3 I also need to be able to set recurring dates and sessions for classes Such as when setting up Class 1 set it for Once a week on Tuesdays from October 2Novermber 6 As I see it right now I have to add dates completely individually So for a six week class I have to add a class date every week If I have a dozen classes to track that is a lot to add as I go Perhaps some of these issues can be overcome or dealt with more cleanly But without a way to contact the developer and get help with my individual concerns I am sharing my thoughts here        Underdeveloped for my needs

I just wanted to take attendance but Im discovering many other useful features I can email reports to myself email absent students keep class notes for each class right there next to the attendance andthis was a pleasant surprisedivide the class into random groups of whatever size I choose I just exported my roster data from Blackboard and imported as a group into my Contacts synced via MobileMe and could then set up the class in one click Im looking forward to keeping attendance records for the first time in years                 Terrific app for my University courses

I swear on everything that is holy and sacred that this app is not user friendly regarding importing names Horrible Perhaps now that the names are loaded I will enjoy itbut the last two hours have been hell The instructions arent written well importing a csv file from dropbox is impossible and emailingpasting works just well enough for me not to throw this iPad out the window Please make the language in the instructions more precise perhaps hire someone else to write them Also you should develop a way to make the roster directly importable from Blackboard Currently the Blackboard roster URL isnt readable by your program If I had it to do all over I would spend the 5 on a coffee and use the energy to do something different Sorry        NOT A FRIENDLY APP

This app is very useful It does way more than just take attendance For instance it can randomly make groups of 3 for you just from those in attendance today Or you can email your whole class something Or want to randomly pick a student This does that too The reports that you can send yourself or your students are great And the author has been adding new features I highly recommend paying for this app                 Superb

We develop tools to assist hockey coaches and one of those was an excel based Attendance Tracker Now we use this app on the ice to track attendance and later import attendance records into our tracking and reporting tool This is a well thought out app that I have been using for two years now Regular updates keep making it better and better I love the student notes especially the Time Stamp button to capture exact time of someone who is late It does all that I need and more Thanks for making attendance taking easy and for providing integration methods to get the data from the iPhone easily into our Attendance Tracker Coach Plum Colorado Hockey Institute                 A Great App for Hockey Coaches Too

This apps works great I surely recommend it to others teachers I have one request for this app My school district requires that i sort my attendance by gender but this is not an option on the apps Can this be included to make things smoother              sort by gender

This app is so complicated I cant figure it out and Im a doctor Why cant I just input students names and be done with it or why is it so hard to download a roster My stupid college requires hard copy attendance records is there an app for that Ive got enough work to do without worrying about this too     0 Count

I havent used this in class yet but so far its fairly simple if you follow the directions and double check your text editor settings to save in the correct format I would like to have the ability to include dates in the csv file before you import the roster As a professor Im not allowed to share student names so it would be nice to have the option to password protect rosters to be more compliant with privacy policies Id like to be able to see the last date of attendance as an option in the report section New financial aid laws require it to be reported in certain circumstances              Nice app

I used to work at a university with all smart classrooms and digital grade books where this program complemented the technology I had Now I work at a university without any technology and this program has become essential to my teaching Attendance is faster than a paper grade book easy to export to excel This is program really lets me focus on teaching and less on administrative stuff Now other iPhone users in my department rely on Attendance too                 Essential for teaching

Wow I found that this application alone justified my use and possession of owning an iPod Touch This app increased my productivity for taking and assessing attendance in all seven thats right seven of my classes this semester The use of this app helped me do an excellent job without any loss or interruption of logistical methods of content delivery in my courses I teach at a private university in art and design and taking attendance sending emails executing reports and importing those reports into Apple Numbers or MS Excel was totally seamless I highly recommend this app for any teacher The only thing that I have to remember is to bring my iPod with me each day                 Attendance is Awesome

Though the app packs a decent set of features they are packed in a very unintuitive manner Even while performing simple functions one can easily get lost in the various menus The app is crying for a redesign     Cumbersome

I was able to import rolls by following the directions inside the app with no need for the further clarification on the support pages I love having students pictures with their names the ability to text the whole class makes it easy to remind students of special meeting sites or let them know if I have to cancel a class Unlike email text messages actually get their attention                 Useful and Not Hard to Use

Im sure this works Great for Teachers but it also works amazingly with a business too I have a staff of 60 employees to track notify manage and send phone lists for employees trying to call out Its also great that I am able to send statistics to my District Manager on call outs no call no shows sicknesses Please allow your great app to be more business friendly Thanks                 This is a great business tool too

I think I must have read a review that praised this app over the updated Attendance2 Im not sure but after trying it out for the first time about 3 weeks after purchasing it Im realizing that some of the functions that Attendance is supposed to have would be much better Waste of 5 unfortuntely because now I need to buy Attendance2 after only using the first version for 20 minutes           Bought the wrong one

This is an excellent App Since the designer is a teacher himself he knows exactly what you as a teacher would want to see in such an app The ability to add photos to hide those that are present to email attendance reports to students and to reorder the list according to your seating chart are all excellent features The only thing that I wished that it had was an ability to record the students level of participation that is it would be great if along with a button to record whether the student was absent present or late there was also a button to record whether the students participation was good fair or poor                 Excellent App

To ChrissieBarnes The first thing to try is rebooting your device That solves a number of problems with many apps If that doesnt help backup your Attendance data to Dropbox delete the app and then reinstall the app and restore your data from Dropbox I dont have any other reports of frequent lockups so I suspect something is wrong on your device and one of those suggested fixes will likely take care of it To TribalDancer My email address is in the help is on the Instructions tab of Attendance and the WebsiteFAQ help section of Attendance2 While Attendance2 does have some of the features you request neither app is designed for the use where each student does not regularly attend each class The first paragraph of the description of Attendance has stated since February 6 months before Attendance2 came out that the new app would be released in the summer of 2012                 from the developer of Attendance

This App is a perfect addition to my teaching toolbox I teach two large sections of an Introduction to Religion class in a university It makes learning student names a painless process by being able to view student pictures in the App as I take attendance I can easily email absent students with the App Backup is possible through Dropbox It took me a couple of hours to figures out the ins and outs of how the App worked and to get my student rosters pictures and emails added It wont take me that long in the future The App is pretty intuitive I heartedly recommend it to teachers with an iPhone or iPod touch Keep up the great work David                 Great for your teaching toolbox

I love this app too It has been amazing Im so organized I did take the time to watch the video tutorials online to figure out how to download my class list Plus I read through instructions Once I did those 2 things it was easy to figure out I also had a question about having the students photo show up while taking attendance I emailed the developer and he got back to me within an hour He had a quick solution to my problem Awesome App                 Awesome App

I have been looking for something like this for a whileeven attempted to use apps to create a reusable template for this purpose I finally bought a cheap app but while it takes attendance it lacks some fundamental features So I browsed the more expensive apps for comparison After watching the videos on this app I bought it Having played with it for a while I am very happy As far as I am concerned aside from taking attendance by class and by name an attendance app must 1 allow me to transfer the data outas text in an email or in some form for other desktop software to open Otherwise what good does it do for me to keep it on the phone only One can email both a plain text AND a spreadsheet which can be previewed in app 2 allow me to display attendance report with all the dates and checks all on one page Looking at the data student by student is useful in some cases but for the most par I keep records for a whole class on only a couple of pages The spreadsheet report created by this app when emailed does just that 3 allow me to add unique status in addition to present absent and late I wanted to add sick training which is required where I work and maybe another one or two Much to my amazement this app does it The status choices can be totally customized in this app Personally I was not very much concerned with importing data but this app does allow import of csv files Having played with the import function I must say I am glad the app allows the wholesale import of a csv file and the authors video shows exactly how as entering more than a handful of names manually with emails and all will be a chore One additional unexpected feature This app allows me to email directly through the app any individual student or students who are absent on a given day or all the students in a class For a variety of reasons Outlook Express at least the way it is set up at my workplace does not allow me to create a mailing list All year long I have been struggling with an easy way of keeping students addresses grouped by class or retrieving students addresses on my phone This app seems to have solved the problem for me So far so good All I can say is that I hope the apps author keeps it updated not necessarily for more features but so that it remains stable                 Excellentwell thoughtout and with good video tutorials to boot

I am a university professor with a fulltime course load Ive tried other attendance apps to keep track of students and learn names and this is by far the strongest Even more the latest update 46 a larger picture option by tapping the photo makes an already excellent app even better Also very prompt support response including followups But start with the website which is quite thorough                 A great app

The app is life changing and has morphed my whole perception about taking attendance which I hated My only need at this point is to be able to have data on my iPhone sync with my iPad ICloud would be a perfect way to make that happen              Please make this iCloud compatible

I can honestly say that this is the best App that I have ever downloaded It is extremely useful It is not one of those apps that will just occupy space in your phone I use it everyday to take attendance at my job and it makes life a lot easier The app also has an outstanding developer who keeps the app updated and its very much willing to take into consideration any input that users may have to make any additions to the app Buy this app is the best 499 youll ever spend                 Best App there is

I have been using Attendance for about two years now in a variety of university level classes I have found it to be very easy to use setting up classes taking attendance customizing the app for my specific purposes and exporting reports that can be used in other applications is very intuitive and seamless I havent seen a more effective alternative                 Attendance is a Winner Its Always Present

What a great app After downloading last night I had a issue figuring something out so I emailed had got a response within minutes We went back and forth about an upgrade that would help me as a band director sort my students with in sections alphabetically by last name the current version would not do thisthis morning I get an email telling me he updated the program for the need sorting features and it will be available in a week or so WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE Thanks David for a incredibly useful app                 Great app for Band Directors

I use this to take attendance in all of my university courses Its simple and well designed I also like the fact that students can be added via address book groups which makes it easy to import the information rather than entering it by hand The export feature makes it easy to import the attendance data to my gradebook on WebCT This is my second year of using the program and I havent had a problem yet Just an update Im still using Attendance and it remains my favorite app on my iPhone                 Excellent app and highly recommended
