Too many bugs in this new version some preventing proper play Some moves are illegals not following the rules The app freezes up at time The graphic design is ludicrus with the boardgame hidden by the planner erratic zoom etc The AI is an insult even to beginners I posted a list of bugs on boardgamegeek if someone at GMT wishes to follow up     a letdown Blue Cayman

I love the board game version and I love GMT but the e version of Dominant Species needs work AI is weak and have had the game lock up several times     Needs Work Sturmkraehe1963

I love the Dominant Species table top game Heck I even enjoy the card game version much different gameplay though But I often can t find opponents for the board game so the iOS version has been able to serve as a substitute as it offers much quicker games than the tabletop version First off set up is quick Additionally the math of this game is simplified i e Figuring out who is dominant and the board set up is automated so no more having to remember to remove that element adjacent to three tundra tiles or slide down elements from adaptation to regression etc the game offers nice visuals such as a colored boarder for dominance My opinion also differs from several of the other reviewers in that I d also argue that the interface is quite easy to use and nice on the eyes The dominance cards and terrain tiles utilize the most recent edition art But there are three things that keep me from giving this a top score 1 The game will stop during certain action selection such as when the AI must select speciation when there are no such elements available There s no fix to this You have to restart the game 2 You can only have one saved game 3 They don t keep statistics For a science y game that s hard to reason why A dimple won loss record with each animal would be nice even All in all it s a great game I think there are just a couple of patches or upgrades to make this top notch                 Decent but the insects aren t the only thing that s buggy Pappy fun

GMT has a history of ignoring graphic design All their board games look like they were made in a word processor with the same default font and same stroke width and same boring clip art While you can get away with doing that on a physical board game and just have a boring looking game when you also treat user experience design as an afterthought you get a mess like this game GMT needs as a company needs to learn to value design or they ll always produce garbage like this     GMT can t design Bosbillk

I loved playing this app on my mini iPad when it first came out The only minor issue is sometimes my action pawn eyeballs were chosen incorrectly an undo button would be nice Then this latest update was released and it has ruined the game for me Everything is so small and it does seem like the boardgame I love I m begging the app designers to please go back to the original app that looked and felt much more like the boardgame than this updated disaster they have unveiled     Bring back original app MikeMc17

Love the board game and thought the original version of the app was fine In 1 5 games in the new app already run into numerous problems As the game progresses it will sometimes stop advancing Pressing the checkmark to for example decide I m done speciating does nothing Only workaround is to force close and reopen the app At the end of the first game after a player took the Ice Age card there was another turn and another player took the Ice Age card again Obviously this messed with the final scoring Sometimes in the execution phase the game just skips over some markers I can t imagine playing the app again until these issues are fixed     Still buggy Voidmaw

My first review on iTunes I love the board game and loved the original app This version is far more difficult to use and does require a microscope for the planning board This was so disappointing to me that I don t even desire to play on this app and wish I had the original app Hopefully this will be i proved     Better DefconX1

Most of what needs to be said has already been said I played one game on the new version and I can I will not be playing another until there are fixes Need to enable landscape mode Portrait doesn t work for many people especially those with keyboard cases or iPad stands AI has improved noticeably although there were a few AI errors like giving up an adaptability chit instead of an AP on the last turn The game became unresponsive on my last turn and would not let me select a tile for speciation effectively forcing me to end the game The UI looks nice and there are some good features but in general it is a bit unwieldy This gets better with time Too many confirmations when they are not needed not enough when they are Give me a confirmation on my action pawn placement not when the Birds get three points Player selection and game setup is painful at best I could not easily figure out how to assign Random starting species so I had to assign one to each player It appears as if AI names are gone you get Player 1 through 6 unless you make them up I gave it one star and I was struggling with that I wanted to give it 2 stars as this has some nice features but version 1 was playable this one is not     Waiting for Version 3 mcmoe316

This is one of my favorite games but sadly the new version of this app missed the mark Not being able to rotate the screen is an annoyance as is the fact that there are no longer cubes and cones to represent species and dominance on the terrain tiles Let s be honest the old version needed some updates but after seeing the new version I WANT THE OLD VERSION BACK I will continue to love this game but unfortunately will stick to using the actual game board though it s difficult to find people who are patient enough to learn how to play until the previous version of this app is restored So sad     I want the old version back SarahinBK

Unfortunately this game is not ready Apparently you can only play locally either against another player or the AI but not online There is no explanation on how to save game locally This appears to be done automatically but calling the saved game up only brings up a blank board Might as well just play the board game if you have it If anyone else has the saved game problem please post or if not please post how to do so correctly             Not quite ready Gyrene251

There are a few elements of polish missing that would have made this a 5 star game The game display is too direct a port of the board game and doesn t take advantage of the touch medium For example the dominance cards wanderlust cards and score are hidden behind awkward pop ups It also takes many taps to get through the creation of a simple game against a few AI players             A little bit unpolished tigriscraig

This could be a 5 star app with some attention and polish fix the bugs improve the AI integrate online multiplayer add some nice animations As things stand however this app serves only as a beginner s introduction once I got all the rules down there was no reason to play it any more I d love to see this app get the attention it deserves as the game has great mechanics and a great theme             it s a shame this app has been abandoned chicainery

I have been wanting to practice this game more often but it gets a bit tricky trying to convince my friends to play the table top version with me The app has eliminated the need for practice companions I can now hone my strategy and show it off when playing with friends The Agricola app helped me do the same thing Oh and it s ONLY 4 99 Look up the cost of the table top version and other iPad table top inspired games and you ll realize this game is a steal It s only missing remote group play I d love to challenge my gaming buddies when we are not in the same room I mean we may as well pull out the box and set up the whole game if we re together                     Love Love Love WheezyG

I have used the app to get many people into playing the baord game For most people who play only battleship and risk the learning curve on the DS board game can be a little steep especially when there are mutliple beers involved The ipad app is a great way to get the uninitiated a tutorial on the basic strategy                     Great way to learn the strategy for the board game bdross1

GMT did a good job with porting the game mechanics minus a few bugs but the AI is absolutely horrible I could get past the AI if it had asynch multi player but it only supports pass and play If I have friends around I d rather pull out the board game than play on the iPad The thing that irritates me the most is GMT has talked about an upcoming update in a couple months twice and on both occasions nothing happened until we found out a few months later that they have developer issues I really hope they either fix the AI or preferably add asynch multiplayer but if they won t do either of these I think a refund is in order     not ready for prime time Ron42na

I really appreciate GMT bringing this game to life It s not perfect AI needs a reboot and fill that promised 3rd difficulty level but as it is my favorite board game I cannot complain To be able to play against 5 others would possibly take 5 hours in real game time I was able to knock out the same rich game in an hour Thanks but please offer an undo move some more poignant sounds the promised AI                     Love this game JulesEv

I love playing Dominant Species It s a great strategy game that s increasingly fun to play the more players there are The AI is super easy to beat I ve tried to locate other human players with the current online option to no avail It would be great if the game was linked with Game Center to make it easier to find other human players Also this game could really use an undo button It s easy to accidentally hit the wrong spaces when deploying action pawns                 Great game Needs to be in Game Center Greygarou
