Empire Deluxe Mobile Edition The classic strategy war game is now entering its fifth decade. The Empire series has been played by many generations on many platforms. Now, are you ready to conquer countless ...
I was a big fan of the original game but this implementation is barely playable I have been playing on an ipad mini retina and the controls are clumsy When your opponent is moving the display jumps around so much that it is hard to see what is happening I really wanted to enjoy this game but instead I learned a lesson about jumping in before there are enough real reviews to get an accurate view of gameplay     not worth the price
I have played empireempire deluxe in various versions for over 30 years this app has the flavor of the empire deluxe version of the early 90s which was way ahead of its time You will have countless hours of entertainment This is a grand strategy game not a slick graphics game You will have to think and sometimes think very hard Very entertaining and if you have empire experience easy to play Newcomers may have a bit of a learning curve to master to extract the most enjoyment out of it but if you put in the effort it will be extremely worthwhile                 My Favorite strategy game
I am a huge face of Empire Deluxe and been wishing for a port of this game to the iPad since I got my iPad years ago Not that it is herewell I am a bit underwhelmed This feels like a bare minimum port with clunky controls I was able to get past that and learn al the different icons so that I can enjoy playing the game but what I cannot get past are the bugs primarily around saving games Games saved midgame frequently will not reload with the load process hanging on Initializing Game Engine and games that I complete and clear from the game slot will show back up on the load game menu as in process games I really really want to enjoy this game but I do not want to put an hour into a game only to find that I cannot reload it to finish it later           I Want to Give EDME More Stars
It tries but not the same as the original by far Tried playing twice now keeps freezing up Icons are not helpful at all           Empire NOT deluxe yet
stay away from this garbagesave your money game frezzea lotand for not reason popupappear     VERY BAD GAME
I am reviewing Empire Deluxe on an iPad3 If you like strategy games and have not played Empire previously you should try this game Unlike most strategy games the game does not give AI opponents massive bonuses It is also elegantly simple and logical There is a reason the game has been a classic for so many years The current PC version of Empire is also great but the touch interface on this version is very nicely implemented and works a bit better than the trackpad on a laptop So for quick on the go Empire play I would rate this higher                 Strategy Game Enthusiast
If you loved Empire Deluxe on the PC now you can have the game on IOS This is turned based strategy at it best It is the same game simple rules difficult choices with a nice touch interface                 Empire lives
Doest really live up to the pc version        Ok
Im sorry but this game app is very disappointing I love this game and have played it on the PC and Mac to death But this version played on the iPad is very difficult to interact with I was hoping this throwback Empire Strategic Conquest game would actually work And white it does technically work it is incredibly difficult to navigate maps and utilize the different units This could be a great game but there are great alternatives out there like Mother of All Battles that combine Empire with a great easy to use interface his game and its simply a very poor interface that makes game play almost impossible I will go back to playing Mother of All Battles instead I should have been more weary when there were only 8 reviews but        very poor
Oh come on The games dont save Ive tried three different games different map sizes etc and although it looks like the games are saving when I try to restore a game it crashes the app I tried rebooting the iPad etc all the old tricks for when an app is buggy and not workingnothing Its still unable to restore a game What a total let down and WASTE OF MONEY until the developer decides to fix this bug Please fix asap     Games wont save
I loved playing this game on the pc back when this was text based This version plays well Like the other reviews I have the same issue with saved games but playing is fine Also has issues with retaining rank but that does not impact play Hope the next version adds a Patrol command and allows city product to be set for repeat or prompt after completion of next unit Overall my fav game now                 My favorite iPad game now
Love it for a simple time killer Faithful to the original PC game from years ago                 Good replica of old PC game
The game is a good copy of the original but the app loses my most recent turns after I save and exit Today I played to turn 162 then saved and exited When I returned it started me back at turn 148 This despite the fact that the game restart option said I was at turn 162 When this happens I usually just delete the game and wait until I think I might have time to play another game all the way through without needing to save and exit This ruins an otherwise fine game           Loses Saved Turns
Finally Empire Deluxe on the iPhone And they got it right All the gameplay from ED is 100 intact and on top of that its got touch control and advanced pathingproduction options If you dig turnbased strategy games dont miss out on this excellent legacy port                 Excellent port of a game made for mobile play
This is a real gem of a game It is a good port of the PC game Empire Deluxe It is an easy to learn wargame with that just one more turn effect that keeps me playing longer The blend of land sea and air fighting adds to the fun Despite its ease of play there are some interesting layers of decisions on items such as how close to the fighting front to build long production time items like battleships Too close and you risk the production city being overrun To far and it wont be where you need it soon enough
Having been a long time fan of the original PC version I was thrilled to finally find a mobile version for IOS This mobile version does not disappoint For reference I am playing this exclusively on a 3rd generation iPad so keep that in mind as you read this review For longtime fans of ED the mobile version appears to near identical to the PC version There are three different modes of play to pick from ranging from basic classic empire units with no fog of war to advanced expanded units fog of war production efficiency affects for cities terrain effects on combat Maps are fully randomized with settings available to specify size wrap around effects and percentage waterlandmass The biggest difference is the touch screen user interface which works fairly well my only complaint that the pinch zoom is a bit tedious and slow to adjust Otherwise the touch interface is very natural for giving commands to units Up to six can play in each campaign including you with three levels of AI to pick from for opponents Im 200 turns in on a 6 player game with a 150x100 grid world and have great gameplay stability Im having a blast exploring conquering cities building my forces and assaulting the other players In addition all the various special commands are available to help manage larger sized forces patrol unit escort unit pathing sentry etc though many of these essential commands must be selected for placement on your command toolbar from the options menu However this is fairly easy to setup For newcomers who have never played any versions of Empire first version created in the 1970s I believe this is a turnbased wargame in which your goal is to conquer every city on a randomly generated map Each player starts out with a single city that is capable of producing combat units Each player then takes turns moving units around to explore the map and conquer new cities increasing their unit production capabilities Unit selection is diverse but not to the point of overwhelming you with too many options Multiple aircraft and ground force units are available as well as a number of different ship types subs cruisers carriers transports etc All units have specific strengths and weaknesses leaving it to the wisdom of each player to build the right mix of unit types to create favorable matchups in battle While certain unit types are very powerful they can be whittled down with an onslaught of lesser units Replacing lost units can be painful especially for the more powerful types that require up to 60 turns to produce In summary ED is a great turnbased wargame for folks craving deep and methodical strategy gameplay With deeper gameplay than Risk but without overcomplicating the core combat mechanics I highly recommend this game The only thing preventing me from awarding the game 5 stars is a complete lack of online multiplayer against other human opponents I can imagine this is not a trivial option to provide and games would last a very long time but nothing beats the thrill of human competition I havent tested it to be certain but I think passandplay using the same tablet with other people is possible Two thumbs up from me try it today              Does Justice to a Classic
Im a huge fan of ED and was extremely excited about this mobile version Until it gets a lot more help save your money Several crashes interface is clunky and although the old school graphics are expected the menus and overall interface could live with some polish Cant wait for the update Not sure how this made it to the store as it is now     Needs serious work
It is great to have this classic game on iOS I enjoy it today as much as 20 years ago But like others saving games does not work This really spoils the fun     Good game but still needs fixes
Tutorial locked up tight Not a single button would work After reading in TouchArcade comments how wonderful this addicting game is I bought it What a mistake Tons of typos too iPad 4 iOS 704     Unfinished
Kinda laggy in control especially without the kb hot keys and the limited icon controls Only standalone play Seems to geared for small scale and totally lose the epic feel of the PC version Barely playable on the iPad I shudder to think how you would manage on an iPhone A bit disappointing        Underwhelming
I had the opportunity to beta test Empire Deluxe Mobile Edition EDME on the iPad with Retinal Display EDME does a good job of emulating Empire Deluxe Internet Edition ED well Not being able to use a mouse makes it a little harder to implement but the buttons at the bottom of the screen work well after you get used to them I recommend ou turn on the Zoom arrows as I use them and do not use the finger pinch option Double tapping the arrows to zoom in and out seems easier to me A new feature is to world wrap to the north and south Combat shows each hit on the units during combat The hits may cause multple damage                 EDME review by an ED veteran
