Gambit REPL is a compact development environment for the Scheme programming language based on the Gambit Scheme programming system. Use it on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices to learn the Scheme programming language. Hack ...
The custom keyboard that comes with this build of gambit c is very useful making most needed keys readily available However the file editor is rather awkward and basic and the REPL is far more primitive than what comes with PC builds If you want to try the Scheme language on your desktop or laptop definitely try out Gambit it is one of the most well known and mature implementations and has a great interactive REPL This mobile version was disappointing             Helpful keyboard but otherwise disappointing interface dMenche
This new release has fixed crashes on 64bit devices It now works great on my iPad Thank you                     Fixed strmpnk
Unfortunately the 7 0 update no longer runs in iOS 8 The app crashes immediately upon opening on both an iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 Looking forward to seeing the new features hope an update is quickly forthcoming                     Broken on iOS 8 ChrisPelley
Would be way better if there were ways to 1 get sensor data and 2 networking connections out         Me Mooseinformants
This is a superb application for running the programming language SCHEME It is well constructed efficient and a great learning utility I would gladly give it a lot more stars than 5 if I could get away with it Gordon Wilson                     An excellent app for an excellent programming language Dwilson836
Nice app but it seems to be stuck in the iPhone 4 era displaying black bars on top and bottom on my iPhone 5 screen I m hoping for an update because the extra screen real estate would be very helpful especially in an app like this                 Update for larger screen size Marc Liyanage
Best programming app I have used on iphone itouch Any plans to port Jazz Scheme Since you ported Gambit you d probably be the best person to port the rest of Jazz Scheme You could probably use existing X server app for the GUI stuff Just a suggestion to make a really good app a great app                     Great App Another Port SpicyMic
I would love to use this app for my programming language projects but I may have to jump ship due to the poor copy and paste functionality from the REPL That would be a real shame since the interpreter is both fast and mostly convenient My suggestion to the developer would be to make copy and paste work for any file type As it stands I have to paste the code for my language project into the file system disguised as a Scheme Script That works well enough The real problem is when you want to get a file back out of the file system For this there is no easy way The REPL is what I have been using for this but spaces are turned into garbage characters when I copy from the REPL I really hope this can be fixed                     Very fast and useful Zelah Hutchinson
updated review this is a nice toy with the rich scheme functionality but the interface is clumsy Youhave to depend on the cut and paste to import files the file editor is primitive and I have trouble with cut and paste in the REPL window Does this app work in iOS7 I want to upgrade from iOS6 and I like this enough to want to keep this The App site does not say specifically that this works under iOS7 or not                 nice package within the limits of the ipad sandbox dannygold
This is surprisingly complete R5RS implementation for iOS Seems quite able to support learning and practicing scheme programming and working through examples in such classics as SISC Little Schemer Seasoned Schemer EOPL without the need to lug around a full laptop It will not disappoint                     Surprisingly complete R5RS implementation ljwinkler
Crashes randomly Also I d like to see iPhone 5 support Please update             Great but James L Turner
but it crashes occasionally I love the features though an I think it s an elegant mobile Lisp interpreter No mobile app is for large projects but this app is great for learning Lisp I also wish you had a Common Lisp version but MIT Scheme itself isn t what I m reviewing right                 Great DummiedDown
Must have for Lisp junkies Brilliant                     Lisp in your pocket matt_d
Thank you folks of gambit c that both developed this and made the case successfully that a scheme console program is a tool and poses no threat to apple Please ensure that the read function remains usable as meta circular is boring without read As far as I can tell it is the same functionality as the PC Linux interpreter The edit windows are a cool feature and I have not found a limit to there storage I just email my code from my desktop to myself copy and past save and run like nobodies business For those who don t know Double enter exits the repl and if that doesn t work make sure the phone is sideways and hit the stop button above the keyboard and it will work One request I would like to make is to have an environment reset button along the bottom bar Resetting my iPhone is a little annoying But thank you for telling us to do that in the help This gets five stars from me because it is all there right from the start Everything else is just syntactic sugar                     Awesome and about time tsouth5
If you want this you know who you are and not much else matters                     Scheme on the iphone Mattknox
Yes A great scheme implementation has arrived on the iPhone This implementation can do some pretty cool things                     My favorite game is now on the iPhone Fundomushi
Gambit is an excellent implementation of the programming language Scheme a flavor of Lisp that I have used for years Scheme is a very expressive near functional programming language that is clean and easy to learn You won t be able to write large programs using the iPhone version but this app will be useful for writing small mathematical functions and experimenting The controls are still a little rough I could not find a way to go back to the script editor from the interactive prompt short of restarting the application Hopefully additional releases will smooth out some of these issues                 Great to see Gambit Scheme here JA`S
