This is a very good app I did run into some of the problems some of the other reviewers mentioned for the earlier versions specifically the file permissions thing but I found a pretty good work around I just stored the information on my internal hard drive before moving it to an external drive I was using an encrypted external drive This is why I rated it four stars rather than five Otherwise I find it a good app for what it s advertised to do                 Satisfied rgrose12

I have been using Hogwasher for about a month now and wanted to try out several things before commenting This seems to be the last actively updated Usenet client for the Mac which still monitors all newsgroups Very impressed with the ease in which I can upload messages files and have them arrive completely intact Choices for viewing mesages and files is likewise generous I also want to stress the quick and courteous responses I received from tech support during my early learning process And I want to thank Hogwasher developers for creating such a first class application Many times UseNet users want to scan group contents and not always have to come up with an NZB file Continued good work                     Pleasantly surprised and pleased Oldlehrer

I ve never been able to actually get it to work It locks up constantly showing Hogwasher not responding in Task Manager If I do get it working long enough to actually try to D L something it comes up with this ridiculous message telling me it doesn t have read write permission to save a file The instructions are virtually nonexistent and what there are of them are totally confusing The user interface is terrible It just just stops working for no apparent reason for minutes at a time No error messages nothing I give up The other review here by Old School CS Guy is spot on I give up     Confusing locks up constantly just bad RGPK

It creates a folder in the dialog box for selecting a folder then when you try to download to that it says the permissions are wrong So it creates folders that can t be written to No other application has ever had an error the folder couldn t be written to because of permissions One has to change the permissions to Read and write for everyone then reselect folders Maybe not changing anything and respecting folders would work They shouldn t need permissions do be anything other than owner Read Write eXecute and Everyone else no permissions 700 in octal The default is drwxr xr x for a new folder 755 in octal This means RWX for owner and RX for Group and everyone else Why this wouldn t be sufficient I have no idea Many times the app appears hung What is it doing no indication but it is stuck Menu option names like Latest for All don t describe what it is doing does this download headers Then in a different place a Menu Option is simply Latest or More What downloads headers What downloads message bodies Right click on selected headers and there is Download and Download selected Generally when you right click ctrl click on something selected everything on the menu applies to what is selected Does this app work yes It would seem these are bugs that shouldn t exist with appropriate care Naming menu options should be the first thing that is done not the last With a little work and care whis would be a good piece of software This is version 5 03         Very Buggy Poorly worded menu options Seems like a work in process Old_School_CS_guy
