Build your Japanese vocabulary with the guidance of a Japanese Sensei. Japanese Sensei is a vocabulary building application for learners of Japanese. Through structured, graded lessons and fun but challenging quizzes, learners of all levels can ...
Thank you so much for keep supporting and updating this app throughout the years I think 7 years maybe I m an old user since the very day Sensei was launched and at that time I downloaded Sensei on an ancient iPod touch I can testify the extraordinary kindness and commitment of the Sensei developers most of my other ancient apps have been defunct but this one is running I ve shelved learning Japanese for years but this year i m taking it up again and Sensei is my single most used app everyday and the favorite by far I use all my micro time memorizing words and sentences I ve finished all the lessons beginning and immediate and now you launched a most recent update that adds another advanced level Amazing I m so looking forward to it I can t thank you enough for your great effort and your kindness W Thank you profusely Ewaan
When you re learning a new language it s not a good idea to learn it based on the language you know You should connect the new vocabulary and grammar directly to the concepts they reference you shouldn t use your first language as a go between This app is entirely sentences and translations I can get that from the dictionary I already have What s more the particle quiz is entirely reliant on remembering the sentences from the lessons The methodology for this app just doesn t work Too much English Fiammetta Rey
This app starts you out right where you need to be when learning Japanese challenging yet achievable It introduces you to all 2 000 kanji and their most common readings It also introduces the difficult translations of verbs nouns and modifiers right from the start so native English speakers can hammer home the odd phrases we just don t have This app is easily worth numerous textbooks CDs flash cards and notebooks Thank you whoever created this very well designed rather inexpensive and fun resource It is AWESOME Sincerely a 32 year old gaikokujin who has studied Japanese since 14 This App is AWESOME ジェイドデイニス
After several years of no updates this was finally improved upon Close but too many bugs and issues remain 1 The size does not match the screen Words run of the edge of the phone 2 The flashcard system should be a true SRS system like iKnow Some words are repeated frequently even though I know them but other words disappear and are never reviewed A smarter SRS system would really make this great It could be special but this doesn t work My advice to the developers is to model this after iKnow finally updated but needs work expatintokyo
Great idea terrible execution My search for the perfect Japanese app continues So buggy I uninstalled Somadnow
Always crash in Index This version was bad fire20012001
2016 06 3 0 doesn t crash so far More use needed but may be fixed Changed 1 star stars At this release I cannot recommend buying the app I think this app is great when it works With iOS8 0 2 update and 8 1 the app simply crashes all the time does not slide through the cards easily instead pulling up the lookup screen or activating the native pronunciation and generally difficult to use because it does not operate as intended Since an iOS7 update some of the hiragana katakana above the kanji in example sentences are not high enough to quickly read About 5 of the characters height overlap The app can be a great tool to learn vocabulary and hear native pronunciation Great app for studying Multitask please
App doesn t allow you to do the lesson Skips straight to the quiz If you try to select a word from the index app crashes Also still no iPad edition Broken xigggy
What have you done to my favorite app It s like you wiped out months of my Japanese language study This is horrific Stay far away from this app these guys have completely lost the trust of their long time users Truly horrific experience Upgrade is horrible DukeyDuck
Listen to the many reviews that say wait until this app is updated It was great back when it worked but now it is riddled with bugs I can barely use the app for a minute or two without it crashing Don t waste your money DO NOT BUY Little Joe 1414
UPDATE I have changed my review from 5 stars to 2 stars due to the fact that this app has apparently not been maintained for years What we have now is a terribly buggy unusable app that is a mere shadow of the world class tool it used to be It was my go to app for learning Japanese but now I can t even use it due to its instability in iOS 8 Please Cole Zhu update the app and return it to its previous glory I d pay ten times over for a workable app made for the current generation devices Until the app is fixed it should be avoided Jflash is a viable alternative and is well maintained Also the Japanese app provides excellent support for their software A real missed opportunity here This app has been my primary tool for learning vocabulary The lessons are smartly divided into bite sized segments which makes it easy to set realistic goals and track your progress It took some time for this app to grow on me but once I began using it regularly the results were undeniably good As far as vocabulary learning goes I believe this is the best app on offer The biggest problem with this app which of fixed would make it superb is the complete and utter lack of customization For example if you ever look up a word in the index that word is added to your study set automatically You do not have the option to remove it So I ve looked up extremely difficult words which I do not necessarily want to learn yet but they show up in my flash cards and I have no control over that You have no control over the cards you are forced to learn In other words you ll have to flip past words like and so on even when you already know them There are some bugs which you ll have to deal with The particles practice for example does not properly register the particle for example When you finish a lesson it does not display it as finished unless you manually flip through the lesson again Bugs and lack of customization hold this app back from being what it should be one of the best tools for learning Japanese vocabulary in existence Nevertheless I highly recommend this app It s worth putting up with the bugs and lack of customization because it really is thoughtfully designed I just hope that it can become more polished and customizable in the future Please update for iOS 8 Works well12345
Simple as that It crashes and doesn t work for quizzes or native pronunciation with iOS 8 Not worth paying for if you can t use it I m sad I didn t look all of the way through the reviews before finding this out myself Don t buy this app until it s updated Karlee2310
IOS 8 2 iPad Crashes sometimes just before a quiz Either exits or goes back to chapter select Stuck giving only chapter unit one quiz It seems to work better with iOS 7 Previously with iOS 8 it would not let you progress by flipping from card to the next card after upgrading to 8 So if you really like the software stick with iOS 7 Otherwise really good content Great vocabulary builder Very good but a bit buggy asdf1234!
No longer compatible with iOS 8 plz update it as soon as possible I ll give it five stars if it doesn t crash any more Should have been great but Mike Lumukin
I think the app has a lot of potential but currently the review is not pulling the words from newer lessons so I m reviewing the same words from lesson one unit one Also there is no scoring and the app is crashing quite a bit I hope there is an update to make this app more stable It has great potential Buggy with ios8 Nikoniko help
The recordings of native pronunciation for every word and example sentence are invaluable This app is solid for building vocab and seeing usage in context Just wish I could use it natively on the iPad Also it would be nice to be able to sync my progress between devices Great app iPad support Sync danielhopper
Good app but has some strange Japanese For example is written in an example on the 2nd lesson instead of the far more appropriate This may not be an issue for some But it should be Has some weird Japanese Rastawolf13
This app is SO wonderful I love how it quizzes you on so many things particles sentence ordering vocabulary grammar But there is a very frustrating bug When I am being quizzed and I answer a question wrong the app crashes Also in unit 1 sections 15 16 17 and 18 it does not show that I completed the lesson after I finish the quizzes it s frustrating because it shows that the bar completed for unit 1 is still halfway full when it should be totally full because I finished all of the lessons in unit 1 please fix this Amazing app but a few bugs Fatcatsarethebest
This app is amazing Been using it for several months now and am loving it One neat feature that I absolutely find brilliant is the way anytime you look up words in the index they are then automatically added to your review list This makes my life easier since I often use this app as a dictionary when using other learning materials watching Japanese programs reading etc and can easily review the words I looked up with any of the delightful review modules It works perfectly really really neat Gush gush Oh and the interface is surprisingly intuitive the voices are of top quality both male and female and the review games are fun and support the learning module perfectly I have no complaints whatsoever Would love to see any of the author s other ideas for learning games added to this app too maybe later Maybe a direct input game Love it Worth every penny Japaneseisatatsytreat
I m currently studying Japanese and my major weakness is Vocabulary This app makes my life easier now I can memorize more vocab I like how this app allowed you to favorite the words and make quiz out of those words And you can select for listening reading kanji kana quizzes GREAT FUNCTION Thanks for creating this app Worth every bucks If you re looking for a way to learn more japanese vocab don t hesitate this app is what you are looking for Best vocab learning app Twoyellowducks
I used to rely on this for studying vocab but my tagged lists aren t working So now it only shows 20 out of each tagged list and I know I have about 50 per list Would have given 5 stars if the tag list worked Please fix Problematic Garuru23
This app was great but now my tagged lists are bugged Whenever I preview a tagged list it only shows every other word skipping the odds So if I make a list with 8 words only 4 will show up in the viewing area though they are in the tag list If you try a quiz with them it will also skip every other word entry in the list I m sad I wanted to build a jlpt list to study now I can t Custom tagged list bugged SilverKeep
I love the Sentence Tester feature of the app Great App Anthonyアレン
Iza Smarty R maji should only be used for a while for learning the Hiragana and Katakana after that you should know by heart what they mean R maj just clutters up the space try to learn Hiragana and Katakana that way you wont have to rely on R maji all the time if u need any help with it you can go to developer Mirai LLP and look for the Hiragana and Katakana learning game hope this solves your problem R maji Xuske
I have too many Japanese learning apps But as I ve deleted ones I don t use I ve kept this one around Because it isn t just flash cards Most everything else seems to be a variation on the flash card idea but this one has multiple games matching exercises and review modes to keep learning fun Additionally when I had a problem with the app crashing tech support responded to my concern within 12 hours I m impressed and will continue to use this excellent app One of the best Chang He
Great app for those who know their hiragana and katakana and have completed Remembering the Kanji The audio readings are a great feature Some suggestions for future versions 1 fix the bug that causes the app to sometimes crash when pushing the back button 2 optimize the app for the iPad 3 fix the bug that causes the audio reading to sometimes not play when the sentence is pressed and 4 allow users to remove individual words from their review lists Thanks Worth the BigAmish
I have tried probably every app downloadable wasting a lot of money in the process This is hands down the best store app for Japanese and supports the AJATT way of learning sentences instead of single words Read RTK and do this app Using sentences instead of single words you will be amazed at how good you can become Note this really is the only app I have ever found useful from iTunes except RTK and anki Best App on iTunes for japanese arikusan
While the app is usable it has bugs some feaures don t really work at all The quiz at the end of each lesson is multiple choice and one way You have to recognize the translation but not recall the word Mere recognition may aid in understanding the language but recall is required to speak it The review section is no better There are matching tests but none where you type in the answer I thought this app might be a good alternative to smart fm since it seems to use the same dictionary but it doesn t even come close The content is good though There are thousands of words each with example sentences read by native speakers some sentences get reused of course The most frequent words seem to be in the beginner section so you ll learn the most important stuff first Really given the price and quality content this app could be so much better than it is I was disappointed I d give one more star if they could just fix the bugs Good content bad app Thaxewm
This app is learning made fun While most self study tires quickly this has kept my interest And while I HAVE taken breaks unlike other apps that I have simply abandoned this one I return to often The tests at the end of each lesson make you pay attention and when they get tiring there are some fun games and exercises to help you review what you have learned There is a load of content as well a beginner level and advanced with 10 units in each and each unit has 18 lessons so it will keep you busy for quite a while Content shuffles so when I repeat a lesson it feels like I am doing it for the first time Well done Cole Zhu Love it hooktrunk
This is one of the few Japanese study apps that not only helps with vocabulary but also grammar and word order It is very well designed and the variety of fun games keeps students engaged Agree with other reviewers that an iPad version would be great Unique fun way to learn St. Nick Name
I love this program and have used it for months All I ever wanted was a program which taught me Japanese via sentences and this program does it great You not only can read them and drill them in but there s also a quiz mode where you learn how to put sentences together properly too Perfect However with the new graphical interface that came out a few days ago this app is much harder to use There are all sorts of glitches and bugs I ve honestly lost count and the new look is very bright noisy and annoying I understand the developer of this app wanting it to seem more friendly and appealing but please consider that your app isn t a normal one For a user to learn everything in it would take many dozens or hundreds of hours and it would be torture to use this new interface that long Please do some quality control and try actually using your new design for a few hours Also please give us the option of using the old interface the simpler look was much easier on the eyes New Interface Needs Improvement Lumieru
This app has the potential of being really great but it has a pretty big flaw You have no control over WHAT you study you have to study a mixture of everything you have learned It has really good games and example sentences but with no control over what material you want to study it kind of ruins it If they changed this I would definitely give this app 5 stars I also don t like that it automatically adds words you look up to your study list It would be fine if I could see the list of words in the study list and delete the ones I don t want there but I haven t found a way to do that Basically this app has good material but lacks customization Good loopmelk
I have been living in Japan for a number of years now and have been using Japanese language learning software all along and I find this app is excellent It is worth the money because this makers built a quality product It is fun to use Believe it or not Fun BTW customer support is good too I emailed and got a response within 30 minutes An excellent Japanese study app OkieInJp
Has a very extensive vocabulary set and very convenient lookup system for unknown kanji or words simply pressing on the character or word and holding for a second brings up the menu for example sentences and meanings very useful They really took the time on this one every sentence after being pressed upon has a native speaker actually recite the sentence This has already helped me improve my vocabulary and kanji recognition A great little tool for someone like me who is currently not in a class for japanese taking the summer off but would like to remain productive and learning on my free time It helps me with my coworkers as well I work in a japanese restaurant and its nice to have the words always in a sentence format below the actual vocabulary gives me the context of the word so i dont feel like im second guessing myself too much when talking to the head chef haha bit of an intimidating guy Well worth the money have seen a direct improvement in my speaking ability from this Worth the money Matsuki
This is a very smart application that keeps track of your personal ability and is very fun to use The customizable features are very helpful and it has excellent example sentences I highly recommend this application for any and all students studying Japanese Very smart app Jack Halpern does it again Sion Barzahd
Quite a good Japanese learning app for us which already know some elemental stuff and wanna improve further I used it a lot when on the subway Recommended didn t waste my money Good Vincent.w
Surprised at this gem Finally a Japanese learning app that s good Surprised SeriousStudent
I was iffy about this app at first but soon realized I have been a student of Japanese for nearly 3 years and have many useless books and apps to prove it I agree with the first reviewer in that this app has been worth the money so far They approach Japanese by teaching you how to read it which has done wonders in my studies Many learn Japanese piece by piece such as vocabulary particles and tense and then try to put it all together this approach never really quite worked out for me In learning Japanese as it is written I was able to get a better grasp of the sentence structure as well as vocabulary and kanji It allows romaji for those not steady in hiragana and katakana yet and furigana for kanji The audio is good and each example sentence is read by native speakers My only concern are the readings in which one reading may be listed when there are several more for kanji Overall I find this app fun and a good learning tool for Japanese Surprised zazie_blu

Im giving this app 5 stars because I use it all the time and it is an incredible resource one of the best purchases I have ever made But I do have a couple of small nitpicks First as Ive said before it could use a proper iPad edition Second forgive me if this already exists but Id really like the option of turning of furigana completely When youre trying to nail down your kanji recognition furigana all over the place is unhelpful in this regard Im giving this 5 stars but

This app was so wonderful but it has bugs the developer knows this yet has failed to fix it I exchanged mails with the developer in early 2013 and it seemed an update was forthcoming Not so over a year later Its a shame because it has so many great features but without the tag list feature working properly it is somewhat useless for my purposes Until it is updated I cant recommend buying this Used to be great

Simple as that It crashes and doesnt work for quizzes or native pronunciation with iOS 8 Not worth paying for if you cant use it Im sad I didnt look all of the way through the reviews before finding this out myself Dont buy this app until its updated
I have been living in Japan for a number of years now and have been using Japanese language learning software all along and I find this app is excellent It is worth the money because this makers built a quality product It is fun to use Believe it or not Fun BTW customer support is good too I emailed and got a response within 30 minutes An excellent Japanese study app
Quite a good Japanese learning app for us which already know some elemental stuff and wanna improve further I used it a lot when on the subway Recommended didnt waste my money Good
