Tether - The wireless leash to your Mac.

I was blown away at the simplicity until 5 minutes later The app locks my MacBook while Im working Did this to the point I had to delete the app        Beautiful app buggy performance

Tried it but it would randomly lock my Mac and would not unlock when I was near I have an iPhone 6 Plus and a new Retina iMac     Didnt work for me

The app relies on the phone and macs ability to detect each others bluetooth this means if the iPhone happens to disconnect randomly from the mac it will start your screen saver Which brings me to the next issue that isnt mentioned on the website if you want this to lock you mac not just a screen saver youll have to go into security setting on your mac and change the require password xxx after sleep or screen saver begins to immediately This isnt a big deal since I dont use a screen saver              A little inconsistent

I thought maybe its because I had cap lock or special characters or something Trying to get their attention     Password wont work to unlock

No matter how many time I entered my password it would never unlock my MacBook It would try a few times and then Id have to do it manually Not sure why it cant remember the password I enter So very buggy     Doesnt work

Like most reviewers this is a nice concept marred by inconsistent or poorlytuned execution My Mac would lock frequently when neither I nor my iPhone had moved and sometimes when I walked up to the Mac it just wouldnt unlock Became more irritating and unhelpful until I just uninstalled Tether from my Mac        Way too sensitive not sensitive enough

I couldnt get it to work consistently with my iPhone 6 and my Mac mini both with the latest OS        Nice try but needs more work

Used this for a few days and it never worked First I had it set to open when my computer turned on and assumed that would work but it didnt you have to open the app and force the handshake between your computer and Mac Then I tried that for a day and that wouldnt work either     Just doesnt work

Crashes constantly all three mac iPhone and watch No usable at all     Crash and burn

Does anyone know an alternative with support for windows OS     Great idea but need Windows OS support

Sitting in front of the computer tether will sometimes just lock down the machine randomly Hopefully they can fix this In using an iPhone 6 and a mid 2012 MBP        Locks down MacBook randomly

This app is a great idea but it rarely works Youll get it to work and then overnight when you come back it doesnt work I go to my Mac and its running and i see it in my top right bar then go to iPhone app and it tells me I need to install Tether on my Mac even though it is the only way to resolve is to install again on my Mac and go through the entire process again Too bad I was into it        Cool when it works

Have to agree with the other reviewers Doesnt work as often as youd like Hopefully the devs will squash some bugs and improve the app My number once concern is that Tether uses quite a bit of CPU resources when compared to other apps that also lock and unlock your Mac Constantly utilizes 0710 CPU Way too much for an app that should be sitting idle when not in use These little apps that run in the background combine with other processes running on your system and kill your battery Please make the app more efficient Looking forward to your updates        Buggy

This only works with Bluetooth 40 No support for us with older Macs     Whaaaat

Id love the idea and got it working last night but now my iPhone 6 wont stay synced with my MacBook Pro 2012 Its a great idea and worked well last night but it keeps telling me I have to download the app for my phone which I have running Ill love it when the app becomes reliable     Not reliable

First time I configured it it wouldnt unlock my Mac Second time I did it would lock it Then unlock it Then lock it All while I sat in front of the machine Nice idea poor implementation     Either doesnt work or works too well

Why would you give your credentials to an app written by an Unidentified Developer When starting the app for the first time Mac OS prevents it because Tetherv120app cant be opened because it is from an unidentified developer The point of App Store security is to prevent a user from installing a trojan and at least think twice about providing too much access to an app from an untrusted source For an app that is already in the IOS store it seems little to ask that the app be reviewed by the MacOS store     It is from an unidentified developer

Nice concept Maybe it just needs to have its sensitivity to disconnect adjusted MacBook Pro retina 15 sitting next to iPhone 6 Plus in Apple leather case While I have been typing this it has auto locked and unlocked 3 times make that 4 So its too sensitive to a lost connection and obviously the apple hardware and its bluetooth are not quite tight either Keep at it though Maybe allow us to adjust sensitivity like not connected for x seconds or minutes        Random locks

Concept is great and apparently the old version of the app worked great but my first experience has been with this newest version In short it doesnt work well at all Frequently I have to force close and reopen the iOS app to get it to connect to the computer or I have to delete all linked devices and relink them all again However again this only works for a short time like hours before again losing the connection At other times my screensaver will start and computer lock while my phone is just sitting on my desk 2 feet from the computer I am using the newest version of Yosemite on a 2014 iMac and an iPhone 6 Plus so this really should work        Doesnt work well

This app used to work great Now it times out constantly repeatedly making the error sound on my Mac when trying to enter in the password You guys have something good here you just need a couple of fixes to make it great        Please fix this app

You will need to retether your iPhone mac after every single restart This is dumb I dont want to go have to set this up every time I would not want to go to system settings and set a new password anytime Fix this problem and ratings will go up     Need to retether after every restart Dumb

Great idea Nice design on both iOS and desktop Only problem is it doesnt work for me I was able to connect my MBA to my iPhone once and testing seemed to go perfectly Since then however the two never connect Oh well at least it didnt cost me anything but time     Wish it worked

The only way an app like this would be valuable is if it can perform its function reliablyand unfortunately Tether cannot Ive seen it work a few times and it feels awesome but more often than not my mac does not unlock I check my tether app on my phone and it says i need tether on my mac which it does I have to quit tether on my mac and restart the app then reconnect it to my iphone before everything works again This is way way more trouble than typing my password Also if my phone stays near my mac while my mac is inactive and my mac goes to sleeplocked tether cant do anything You actually have to physically leave and come back for tether to do its one single function So Im typing my password half the time cuz i left my phone near my mac And then some of the time Im restarting and reconnecting my devices The success rate of tether is just too low        Doesnt work very well

I installed this app on my Macbook Pro and iPhone 6 Everything connected and I thought I was good to go Took my iPhone into the other room to see if it would work as advertised It never locked up Also my Macbook started toggling between normal and screensaver about every 5 seconds Weird I have multiple Macs at home but only one had the Tether app installed Kept seeing other devices and wanting to pair I am guessing that if I had a one Mac household it might be closer to working Really kind of sadI was hoping this app would work as advertised Will probably try again in the future if they are able to fix some of the issues mentioned in the comments        Too badsoftware has issues

My guess is the developer built it right but Mac OSX is shutting bluetooth down when the system logs out I think the iOS app might be going to sleep as well not sure on that side        Too many flaws right now great concept

while it did what it said my Mac would lock up while I was in the middle of doing things so I had to get rid of it Good idea maybe a new rev would work better        had to uninstall

The app performs as described works well There are other apps that perhaps provide greater security utilizing Apples iPhone fingerprint scanner if you have a need but the simplicity of this app is enough to satisfy the average user I look forward to the porting of this app to the Apple Watch it has the potential to sell a lot of Apple Watches me included Although the app is currently free and free is good it is certainly worth paying for I would suggest that Apple included the app in the basic Apple Watch software but Apple wisely allows developers to add value to Apple products                 Works well

They dont do the best job of explaining how this app works but heres the deal Tether starts your screen saver when your iPhone is out of bluetooth range of your Mac If you want your Mac to lock you need to go into OSX Security settings and check the box that says Require password after sleep or screen saver begins Once you do that youre set When your iPhone is out of bluetooth range your screen saver kicks in on your Mac which means your Mac is locked When your iPhone is in range again the screen saver closes and your Mac automatically unlocks It works marvelously There are two catches here both are minor One Your Mac will automatically lock whenever you power off your iPhone meaning you hold down the onoff button until the option to power off the iPhone But the app does work even if your iPhone is sleeping Two You have to launch the Tether app on your iPhone after you restart the iPhone otherwise it wont work Hopefully a future iOS update will include an option to automatically launch certain apps after a restart Bottom line This app is excellent                 Fantastic

Mac randomly restarts or goes to sleep when phone is nearby     Doesnt work

The concept of having your Mac unlock automatically when your iPhone is nearby is great however I found it to be too inconsistent When I sat down at my Mac and put my iPhone next to the Mac it would take 1020 seconds to unlock and would sometimes randomly lock when the iPhone was right next to the Mac Too unreliable to use        Good concept poor reliability

Your MAC needs to have Bluetooth 4 to install this software Too bad     Tether needs Bluetooth version 4

App has connectivity issues Also doesnt work well with multiple profiles Otherwise an nice alternative to tokenlock which hasnt worked for me in a while        Buggy Needs improvement

The App did sound like nice thing to have especially if youre used to or concerned about locking your computer and dislike to keep typing in password every time you come back and you do this often However the App does NOT work As stated by some it lacks fine tuning features nonetheless I gave it a shot Result disappointment Computer locked as I was typing or mouse clicking or just browsing the web even if the phone was right next to it It was terribly annoying at first I didnt know what was going on I thought I was hitting the wrong keys or something but I quickly learned it was Tether playing games with me I gave it a chance several days worth but it kept doing it couldnt detect a pattern So before I got angry and have the App ruin my day I uninstalled and hopefully can forget about it     I liked the idea but the app doesnt work

Great idea Im one of those people who always lock their computer Ill even do it when Im home by myself Setting everything up was very easy on both my iPhone and Mac However I was never able to get past the lock screen For some reason the password was always missing the first character After entering it myself I was able to log in        Needs some work

like others said its a good idea but flat out didnt work I have late 2013 iMac and iPhone 6 Could not get them to talk to each other no matter what I did Oh well Good luck to you though     DIDNT WORK

I wish I could give this app 5 stars When it works it is awesome But more often than not it simply does not work I can enter the room and sit in front of my mac launch the app to verify and see that it is telling me I need to install the app on my mac Yet its installed And after manually logging in I can verify its still running Too bad it doesnt work all the time Id love to rate this 5 stars           Only works intermittently

its works most of the time pretty well but every once in a while you phone will disconnect from the bluetooth for whatever reason then it locks the computer on you this may not be an issue with the app It could be the phone just disconnecting but its extremely annoying when you working on the computer and your deep in your work and the computer locks on you nothing will piss you off more           it mostly works

Worked fine for the first hour However I started noticing issues soon after My Mac mini locked up in the middle of typing in an editor Had to disable and uninstall the app to continue working Brilliant idea but the implementation is incomplete and unreliable Fix the issues and I will update my rating     Very buggy rendered Mac mini unusable

Using iPhone 6 iOS 82 and Yosemite 10102 on a 2014 MBP I managed to pair the app and laptop but nothing else worked When I walk away the app shows that its searching for a Mac to connect with instead of telling me that the laptop is locked as it promised it would As far as I can tell Tether app never managed to actually lock my laptop Now I get a confusing message that say Turn back to your Mac Tether needs permission to unlock your Mac Huh I just gave it permission Im looking at my unlocked Mac and theres no request for permissions I type in my password again Tether app is still stuck on the Turn back to your Mac screen whatever that means Another UX issue the Mac app says its complete after pairing but doesnt indicate whether I can close the window or need to leave it open So confusing and broken Fix the bugs and get some help with the UX guys     Good idea but doesnt work

My iMac and my iPhone simply keep forgetting each other Have tried to make it work for two weeks now and Im uninstalling     Great Idea lousy execution

This is a great idea Works once Leave the building and come back and have to reboot everything then it will work once again This is a great idea as I said and I want this to work really bad So please fix           Works once then reboot

I really enjoyed installing and using this app When it worked it was great Unfortunately the link between the phone and the desktop would break constantly and the app would activate sometimes when I was only sitting 2 feet away Seems like a great solution Ill gladly give it another try when I see others confirm its been fixed        Just too unstable to rely on

This is a great idea Dont work though Every time I put up a modal dialog on the Mac Tether flashes the screensaver on I have to keep twitching the trackpad to get it to stop after a number of flashes Very frustrating Not worth it        Meh Gonna Delete It
